Memory Reaper's Ascension - Chapter 142: Walker between two World

Chapter 142: Walker between two World
The newly formed question was related to something that he has never heard before. It was something that even, the High Priest who was clearly more powerful than Ishiki, seemed to be weary of.
’Who is The Great Old one? ’
He had heard that term for the very first time and from the looks of it… he was a God.
A god stronger than any other. Of course it was just his speculations.
’So, the Great Corruption was the event that caused the god called Mandecium… to be forgotten. The reason behind must be that he was Corrupted as well and the Angel had to kill him.’
Things made much more sense this way… then there was the fact that fighting a god would not have been easy and so before dying the Angel bestowed its last blessing to the city.

The sound was subtle, almost inaudible. But in the silence of the sanctuary, it rang out like a gunshot.
Ishiki’s head snapped up from the diary, his body instantly tense.
He had been so absorbed in reading and forming his thoughts that he hadn’t noticed when the wall behind him—the rotating bookshelf had turned around once again.
And standing in the opening, bathed in the orange lamplight from both sides, was the skeleton.
Its hollow eye sockets fixed directly on Ishiki. The purple jian was already manifesting in its bony hand, motes of light swirling faster and faster until they solidified into that deadly double-edged blade. The dark flames on its tassels writhed like living serpents, hungry and patient.
’Shit—’
The skeleton moved in one swift motion and closed the distance between them in a single motion. Its movement was filled with pure, lethal intent.
The jian came down in a vertical slash that would have split Ishiki’s skull if he hadn’t thrown himself backward instinctively. His chair toppled as he launched himself onto the table. His boots scattered papers and sent the compass spinning across the surface.
The blade struck the spot where he had been sitting just a moment ago… and by bad luck it caught the diary.
The precious diary containing six hundred years of accumulated knowledge and his key to understanding the true history of Aethelburg.
The jian’s blade cut through the thick pages like they were mist and nothing more and in an instant the clean diagonal cut separated roughly half the book from its bindings.
Then the purple flame engulfed it.
The fire spread across the severed pages with impossible speed, faster than any natural flame could move.
The paper blackened, curled, and simply ceased to exist.
Ishiki’s eyes widened as he realized that the pages didn’t burn. When something burns, it leaves behind reside like ash or smoke.
… But the pages just disappeared.
Within three heartbeats, the whole diary was gone.
Six hundred years of recorded history, observations and vital information about the gods, the Angels and the Demigods was gone.
’Damn it!’ Ishiki felt his stomach twist with anger. ’GOD DAMN IT!’
But there was no time to mourn.
The skeleton was already moving again, the jian coming around in a horizontal sweep aimed at Ishiki’s midsection. He rolled across the table, feeling the blade pass so close that it stirred the air against his back.
The hourglass shattered as he crashed into it. Glass and frozen sand sprayed across the room, scattering everywhere in the air making the room seem to glow with thousand shards.
Ishiki hit the floor on the far side of the table and immediately summoned [Aether Blade].
The handle of the Tachi materialized in his hand, the blade itself remaining invisible as it always had.
’Why did he just came rather than following me immediately?
’ The thought flashed through Ishiki’s mind even as he rolled to avoid another strike. ’He could have some inside immediately, then why wait?’
The skeleton shoved the chair that was between him and Ishiki and then advanced with another attack.
The purple robes swayed with motion that almost looked alive, the golden embroidery catching lamplight and throwing strange shadows across the walls.
Ishiki side stepped and activated [Ghost Blade] to move anonymously. He then willed the mysterious energy in his synth reactor to surge forward and into the Tachi.
He had learned of it quite some time ago… but he wasn’t able to control it. Even now, his control is just like that of an infant.
The energy truly activates the abilities of this blade and when he uses Ghost blade… he is indeed a being that walks between worlds. That was the main condition of [Aether Blade] to be used.
The current Ishiki who is using [Ghost Blade] to its fullest moved between the world of existence and the world of negligence.
Ishiki moved, seizing the opportunity and raised the bladeless tachi for a strike… but for some reason the skeleton tracked him instantly and Raised the jian in a defensive posture.
Ishiki gritted his teeth mid strike. The skeleton could sense him and Ghost Blade was no use on it.
The bladeless tachi came down in a diagonal slash aimed at the skeleton’s shoulder joint.
The skeleton parried.
Metal that didn’t exist met metal that glowed with purple fire. The impact sent shockwaves through both weapons, vibrations traveling up Ishiki’s arms with enough force to make his bones ache.
The Skeleton was not a mindless undead… it was the High Priest. Of course it was skilled and even more than Ishiki in that regard. Having lived for centuries must have had made him into an indomitable warrior.
The Skeleton was not in shock like Ishiki and instead pressed the attack. Its movements were fluid despite having no muscles.
A vertical slash came, which Ishiki parried. It turned into a horizontal sweep in no time.
Ishiki ducked under the second and following that a rising cut came to slash, he barely twisted away from that. But his moments were not random. He was slowly pushing towards the wall.
Ishiki parried another strike and then pushed his body backwards in a fall. He slammed into the wall that was not just a plain wall with the bookshelf on the other side.
But… what he anticipated didn’t happen. He did hit the wall but it was solid now and didn’t move for some reason.
The jian came in a straight push leaving behind purple flames as afterimages.
