Memory Reaper's Ascension - Chapter 200: Born Again

Chapter 200: Born Again
Ishiki felt as if he was floating in an endless ocean… and something was pulling him down with every passing second.
At first, he tried to force his way up… but soon he gave up. He just closed his eyes and let the force pull him deeper into the dark depths of the unknown ocean.
He had killed an innocent human, that was a burden that clawed at him no matter how hard he tried to forget it or justify it.
As he was moving farther and farther from the light, he felt a serene calm was over his whole being.
But still, even this calm state could not triumph over the guilt burning deep into his soul. At that moment he thought of the drama’s he had seen over his life… he remembered that a lot of them had characters who would not even bat an eye when they kill Innocent people.
Why couldn’t he be like that? Why couldn’t he just feel that it was all but for his own survival?
For some reason he could not think like that. He disliked the people who didn’t take responsibility for their actions and he never ever wanted to be like those bastards.
Maybe that was what made him different than a monster.
’I will not deny it… I have killed her and I should suffer the the consequences of my actions.’
But there was still a question that he could not answer. Who… who in the hell knows his Title? And why would they use it like that?
At that thought, Ishiki’s blood boiled… he really, really wanted to know the person. The most suspicious of all was Yuki’s brother.
Renji had an ability to control minds and Illusions. He could have had used that to get Ishiki’s title without even him noticing.
The other option was a person capable of looking at other people’s status screen… and honestly. Such a person would be nothing less than a menace.
And, in all accounts… it was the fault of that person. They were the reason of Nina’s death.
Ishiki’s imaginary form gritted his teeth and his hands flailed in the ocean, trying once again.
’I can not die yet… Not before I take Nina’s revenge. I will skin that bastard alive… I will make him suffer so much, so much that even his soul would beg for death. ’
Ishiki had never known how to swim… but for some reason he felt the light coming closer and closer and then his eyes suddenly opened to be greeted with complete darkness of the chamber.
Sorrow’s Edge had been dismissed the moment he died. Ishiki’s hand grabbed his chest… he could feel his heart beating.
Thump Thump Thump
Somehow, miraculously it had healed. He vividly remembered the unbearable pain he felt when his heart suddenly busted inside his ribs.
But now his heart was not only working again… but it felt better than it ever had. It was now stronger and more efficient… as if the organ has been replaced with something superior.
Without a word, Ishiki summoned the Sorrow’s Edge and the blade materialized in his hand, forming from countless motes of light.
The purple flames breathed life into the dark chamber.
Ishiki looked down at himself. His clothes were still torn and blood-stained, but beneath them, his flesh was healed without any sign of bruises or cuts. The only evidence of his recent trauma was the dried blood covering his hands and soaking into his shirt.
He simply sat back. feeling really cold for some reason. Not too far away from him… the Demigod’s lay in shambles.
But “corpse” might have been too generous a term. What remained was barely recognizable as having once been human. The body had disintegrated almost completely, leaving behind a grotesque collection of parts.
The chains that had bound the Demigod for centuries still hung from the walls, their endpoints buried in puddles of congealed matter.
The torso had split open entirely. Ribs jutted from the chest cavity, many of them snapped or cracked. The internal organs that should have been protected by those ribs were visible, but they had long since rotted and there was no visible heart.
The arms and legs had separated from the torso. They lay scattered across the blood-stained floor like discarded mannequin parts. What flesh remained on them was gray-gold and corrupted, splitting to reveal bone beneath.
But it was the head that truly demonstrated how complete the disintegration had been.
The skull had split down the middle, just as Ishiki remembered. The two halves lay separated, revealing the interior that should have held a brain. Instead, there was only a hollow cavity filled with gray matter that had transformed into a writhing mass before finally dying.
As far as Ishiki remembered the brain had converted into the black jelly like substance and the heart had changed into the blue jelly like substance.
And now both of them were inside his body.
The smell was overwhelming. The metallic tang of ancient blood and centuries of rot made breathing here a chore.
Ishiki stared at the corpse, and a complex mixture of emotions churned in his chest.
This thing had been a person once. A hero. The Demigod of Charity who had conquered seven kingdoms without a single defeat. The second son of Mandecium.
And in the end, that same person had died without anyone even knowing it had even existed. All those who knew of his existence had long perished and at last he had joined them wherever they are.
At that thought suddenly he remembered that there were hell lot of system notification before he died.
Ishiki summoned the status screen with hesitation and curiosity.

Ishiki’s eyes widened as he studied the blue screen in front of him. His jaw dropped as his scanned more of the changes.
He had reached level 22, he had shot up 5 level. And there was a boost of 10 points in each of his basic abilities.
’Holy… cow! ’
Then he looked at the protocols and the new name alone sent shivers down his spine. He didn’t wanna check what it was… but there was no option. It was even of the same Unknown rank as the Recursive Anomaly and that made him really uncomfortable.
He focused on the new Protocol nonetheless and a new screen appeared in front of him.

Ishiki read the description and felt his body shudder involuntarily. His heartbeat became faster and sweat rolled down his spine.
’What the hell does it mean my Fate has been Cursed? For one time… fucking one time can’t this system be clear?! ’
Ishiki’s rage boiled past his tolerance limit and he swung the Jian at the system screen without noticing. But the sword simply passed straight through it.
“Whatever…” Ishiki sneered and closed the window.
The next thing he saw was a new attribute that literally said Immortal heart… and that too of Mythical rank.
Unlike other things, attributes don’t have explanation windows so one has to understand what it does from the name alone. And this case the name was as easy as it could to understand.
Not focusing on it too much… Ishiki first opened the vestige section and went through all of them. There was nothing new with them.
Then he looked at the second option {Relics} and gulped hard. He had never seen or gotten a relic up until this point.
He didn’t know how to feel about it. He focused on the option and a new interface opened up.
It was similar to that of Vestiges.
Relics – [Divine Blood (Mythical)]
Ishiki stared at the screen for a good long second… his new heart palpitated and several scenarios played out in his mind. The Demigod had given his several parting gifts it seemed.
Without wasting much time. He focused on the Sole relic he had, his first relic and that too of Mythical rank no less.
A new Platinum hued window opened in front of him. Containing the information about the new relic.
