Memory Reaper's Ascension - Chapter 212: Battle for Salvation (VI)

Chapter 212: Battle for Salvation (VI)
An unsettling silence settled over the golden castle’s throne room.
Ishiki didn’t move… nor did the dragon move a muscle. His golden eyes were fixed on the target standing just about three meters from him.
Ishiki had to look up in order to look back into the eyes of the dragon’s graceful figure. Weather it was because of his pride or he was too lazy… Ishiki couldn’t tell, but the dragon was still not wearing anything over his torso. Revealing his crazy muscle sculpture in all its glory.
He had wrapped a small cloth under to cover his lower body… and it was clear that the dragon was not a player. If he had been one, he would without a doubt produce a weapon or at least an armor.
Well… Ishiki had to tread carefully. He mentally summoned the [Berserker’s Effigy] and motes of white light condensed around his body, turning into the lustrous black armor with spikes protruding out of its surface at various places.
He did not summon the helmet and instead let the black mask with white rows of teeth show itself in its fullest.
In the shifting golden light of the ancient throne room, wearing black armor crowned with horns and a mask that looked like it had been torn from a nightmare, Ishiki looked like nothing less than a demon summoned from the deepest ring of some forgotten hell.
The first to move was the dragon. His figure burred from reality as if he was made up of wind and suddenly he was gone.
Ishiki’s pupils constricted… the armor hadn’t yet been properly manifested!
He activated [Ghost Blade] without a second’s delay and jumped sideways as soon as he found out that the dragon was just behind him.
His greaves finished forming during the slide, the last motes of light settling into solid black plate just as he pushed himself back upright.
The dragon’s fist came like a bullet and missed Ishiki by just a fraction. The displaced air from that single punch, compressed and expelled from the motion of the strike.
It caught him mid-leap and shattered his intended trajectory. He had been angling to land some meters clear. Instead the shockwave struck him from behind, adding chaotic horizontal force to his jump.
Having a scythe double his size was not helping much with his movements… but it provided him with precious range.
Just before he had jumped, he twisted his hand and made the blade of the scythe get behind the dragon’s figure. Just as his body moved away from the dragon… the curved blade of the scythe oved closer.
It should have been hard to miss considering the dragon’s big size, but his agility was another monster all together.
He was sent skidding sideways across the golden floor, one knee catching the ground first and dragging a long line through the dust before he could arrest the momentum.
His greaves finished forming during the slide, the last motes of light settling into solid black plate just as he pushed himself back upright.
’He is too fast for me to work at a close range… the only defense I have is making sure he can’t get close without accounting for the blade. ’
Ishiki’s heart hammered inside his chest as he came up from the skid, already moving in an act of putting distance between himself and the dragon’s last known position while Ghost Blade mapped the room in real time.
A pale smile twisted on his dark mask as he noticed a drop of blood on the pristine ground.
The attack earlier had actually grazed the dragon no matter how small… it was a progress.
But his smile froze on his face as he felt his body being thrown forward. He had no idea when the strike connected, his body had failed to notice it.
The dragon was already behind him and his fist had struck his back with all its force. It drove the air out of his lungs… and he forgot how to breathe for a second before his body finally collided with a pillar and stopped in its tracks.
Ishiki didn’t let himself be weakened and immediately pushed his body up standing straight. He saw that there was a thin line of blood on the dragon’s torso, but the monster was not giving in any attention.
The expression on his face was not that of pain.
It was that of interest and curiosity.
On the other hand the expression on Ishiki’s face was that of agony and anger.
The attack he had landed and the attack he had absorbed were too far apart. To make up for it… Ishiki had to land a strike of equal measure!
He moved first this time and closed the distance with the dragon with a sudden bust of speed.
The dragon’s eyes tracked his movements, until he was directly below him. But Ishiki changed his direction at the last moment and slipped aside.
The dragon jumped up without looking back and the scythe’s blade passed below his legs… but the actual threat was not the blade.
The dragon’s body descended to come down… and instead of ground there was still the blade.
The handle of the spear had somehow increased its length!!
having presented with such a situation. The dragon was forced to open its wings and flutter upwards.
Ishiki who had already anticipated this movement had already summoned more Divine Blood and sent it towards the dragon in form of a spear from his other hand.
At the last moment, before the spear could penetrate his skin. The dragon caught it mid strike and puled it towards himself.
Ishiki’s eyes widened. The spear was still connected to his body and he wasn’t fast enough to make it leave in time. He was hurled forward by the dragon’s force.
’Shit…’
He tried his best and was able to separate the blood from his body, but by that time, the dragon had already spun him in the air.
Moving through the air… Ishiki collapsed on one of the six chairs and broke its back.
He tried to push himself up, but the dragon was already above him. Coming down with one of his legs aimed at his chest.
