Chapter 1617: Breaking Barriers: The Third Trial (12)
“…”
“…I’ve got to say…”
“The fact that you’ve improved your movement skill by this much just on your second attempt is quite astonishing.”
Taking a bit of time to catch his breath, Ataraxia looked at Aeramis with a satisfied smile on his face as he heard the words that left the latter’s mouth.
“Though I wouldn’t be surprised if your maximum speed remained same, you’ve pretty much subverted my expectations by showing me that your improved skill was capable of achieving Mach 4.2.”
“With that being said, it goes without saying that you’ve achieved a score of five on speed.”
Closing his eyes for a bit to organize his thoughts, the man soon continued, “As for maneuverability, you’ve made quite the substantial improvement in that aspect.”
“After all, not only were you able to pass and swerve through a few stone pillars with one single movement, you were even able to maintain that kind of state until you achieved double the score you got back at your first attempt.”
“Unfortunately, you weren’t able to clear all 200 stone pillars for the area you’ve chosen, which is why I’ll have to give you a score of four on this one.”
Letting out a faint sigh to vent out his slight disappointment towards the matter, Aeramis swiftly moved on to the next criterion. “For maneuverability, it’s pretty much just like what I expected from speed.”
“In my head, you would be able to improve that aspect of your skill to where you’d warrant a score of five.”
At those words, the man bitterly smiled. “Yet, just like what happened in reality, you’ve gone way above and beyond the expectations for your skill in that aspect, showcasing a skill that exhibits extremely high levels of adaptability towards the three terrains I’ve given you to traverse.”
“For that, I’ll give another five… though if it was possible, I’d give you a score of six for both speed and adaptability.”
“With those three criteria out of the way, that only leaves us with stamina.”
Whoosh!
At the very moment those words left Aeramis’ mouth, the atmosphere surrounding the two began to get colder all of a sudden, prompting Ataraxia to take in a deep breath as he sensed that this coldness came from none other than the man in front of him.
Of course, the coldness did not last for long, with it disappearing the moment Aeramis let out yet another sigh.
Shifting his gaze towards the young man, the man adorned a bitter smile once more.
“Though the efficiency of your movement skill has vastly improved compared to the one you showed me during your first attempt, I’ve noticed that out of the four criteria I’ve set for the third trial, this criterion is the area you improved the least on.”
“Then again, I’m not saying that you haven’t improved at all,” he clarified himself, understanding that his words might sound rude. “However, compared to how much the other aspects of your skills have improved, let’s just say that its ability in that aspect is… lacking.”
Remaining silent throughout everything the man had said to him, it was only then did Ataraxia respond to his words, faintly nodding in understanding as his eyes showed he was already thinking of his skill for his third and final attempt.
Seeing that the young man in front of him wasn’t deterred by the difficulty of the trial whatsoever, Aeramis inwardly let out a faint sigh of relief as he belatedly realized how quickly Ataraxia adapted to all the trials he’d thrown at the latter thus far.
’If I didn’t watch him adapt to all of the trials I’ve given him, I would’ve thought he was some guy who trained for all of the trials in my inheritance before entering,’ muttered the man to himself, inwardly shuddering at the idea.
After all, it had already been over 15,000 years since the last person to enter his inheritance had appeared.
With how long of a life Myth-level beings had at the early stages, the possibility of them being able to survive up to this day was incredibly low.
And if they did survive for that long, they would’ve already been kicked out of Veldanyr after reaching the planet’s strength threshold, considering that only Myths at Rank 8 and above could live for that long.
’However, the fact that he’s been able to reach the limit of the first two trials just through his skill alone cements his comprehension ability at a level that far surpasses mine,’ thought Aeramis, slightly clenching his fists as he briefly glanced at the young man in anticipation.
’Whether or not he’s able to reach the limit of the third trial, I’ve decided that I’ll give him the score he needs to reach the trial’s limit.’
’Even if it means breaking some of the rules I’ve set since the beginning of the inheritance.’
As the thought came to mind, a faint wry smile appeared on the man’s face.
’Though, it would undoubtedly be better if he achieved such a score through his own means.’
’If that were to happen, then I wouldn’t even mind if I had him inherit all of my abilities.’
…
“…Now what?”
While Aeramis was coming up with contingency plans in the off chance Ataraxia failed to reach the limit of the third trial, the young man in question sat near the edge of the lake, gazing off into the horizon as he pondered over the skill he’d showcase for the final attempt.
“Compared to the skill I made in the first attempt, the skill I showed in the second attempt could probably be considered one of the best False Intent-tier movement skills to ever be created.”
As this thought came to mind, Ataraxia briefly recalled the incessant optimization he had done to the skill’s circuit, even going so far as to change the way that the energy and concept were intertwined to make sure it could handle even more power.
Add on a greater understanding of the entire skill-making process, as well as a more streamlined way of discovering compatible movements, it went without saying that the young man’s second attempt at a movement skill was an all-around improvement.
“Yet, the skill is still lacking in terms of energy conservation,” murmured the young man, continuing to gaze at the lake as the gears in his head turned.
Considering that it was one of his weakest links during the first attempt, it was no surprise that Ataraxia spent a lot of time making sure that the movement skill consumed as little energy as possible.
Sadly, even with all of the optimizations he had done to the circuits and the movements that accompanied the skill, his stamina still ended up running out faster than his energy did.
Then again, with how large one’s energy pool usually got, that was more or less a matter of fact.
“Wait a second…” Though, at the very moment this thought popped up in Ataraxia’s head, a new perspective towards making movement skills slowly began to solidify in his mind.
“If my stamina’s the limiting factor in my movement skill…”
“Then what if I just didn’t factor stamina into the movement skill entirely?”
