‘…Shit,’ said Ataraxia, his remorseful voice echoing in Valyr’s mind. ‘We really just ghosted her for nine months, huh?’
‘Even though that wasn’t our intention, that ended up being the case,’ replied the latter, nodding in agreement as his expression showed remorse.
‘You think she’d be mad at us for not contacting her for so long?’
‘Wouldn’t be surprised if she was,’ answered Ataraxia, slightly shrugging his shoulders at the question. ‘After all, even though there wasn’t much for us to do when she first told us about it, there was still something else she wanted to say to us but couldn’t because of the circumstances.’
‘Yeah.’ Valyr nodded once more, briefly recalling the conversation he had with Lunarossa back at the Myriad Prodigies Tournament.
Ding!
Just as the two were starting to get the feeling that she was indeed angry at them for not responding for a considerably long time, the woman in question sent a response back to Valyr’s apology, prompting him to get his other self up to speed as he brought up his chat screen.
‘What did she say?’ Ataraxia asked, feeling a hint of trepidation towards the matter.
Though, after seeing his other self share what he saw with him through their connection, that trepidation immediately disappeared, only to be replaced with a mix of relief and confusion.
‘She also forgot…?’ Reading through Lunarossa’s response, Valyr was briefly left at a loss for words after seeing that the person they thought would be angry at them had actually forgotten about the matter as well.
Giving himself a bit of time to wrap his head around the entire thing, the young man soon went ahead and continued reading through the entire apology, audibly letting out a sigh of relief by the time he was done.
‘Thank the heavens she’s not mad at us,’ said Ataraxia. ‘But that doesn’t change the fact that I feel bad. After all, we haven’t even sent her a message for the past nine months.’
Valyr nodded in agreement. ‘Yeah. At the very least, we could have updated her on what we were doing.’
‘Yet, neither of us even remembered to do that while we were busy doing our own things.’
‘Of course, that doesn’t mean we should blame each other because of it,’ said Ataraxia. ‘…On second thought, you could pin the blame on me since we spent like half a year just comprehending shit.’
‘Comprehending two powerful concepts to be more specific,’ Valyr clarified, faintly shaking his head at the latter’s statement. ‘Either way, she told me that she’s not mad that we didn’t inform her of our actions these past few months, nor does she feel like snooping into it.’
‘However, at the end of the apology, she did ask me if it was possible for us to head to the Meltierre Imperial Estate,’ he continued.
‘I sure hope you said yes,’ replied Ataraxia.
‘After what we did? Of course,’ said Valyr in return with a slightly bitter smile. ‘I replied that I just sent you the message and that you’d be on your way to the empire soon.’
‘Then you’ll send a message to her if we’re on our way to the estate?’ asked Ataraxia, understanding what he needed to do.
‘Pretty much.’ Valyr nodded, prompting his other self to end their discussion for the meantime as the latter began to make his way to the Meltierre Empire as quickly as possible.
Whoosh!
“Considering how long it would take for him to get there even with access to Teleportation Halls, I suppose now’s a good opportunity to go over the agreements I made with Alvin in more detail.”
Deciding to wait by the Blacksmith Guild for Ataraxia to arrive, the young man briefly thought back to the discussion he had with Elder Alvin earlier regarding the new deal.
“In terms of the agreements I made with him back when I was still forging the arquebuses, most of them have improved,” muttered the young man, faintly nodding in satisfaction.
“Though it would’ve been nice to have unlimited access to all materials, the best I could negotiate was a set limit on the number of rare materials I could use for free.”
“On the other hand, he really showed no hesitation increasing the amount of Technology Points I get from my stipend,” said Valyr with a slight chuckle as he thought out loud. “Because of that, my current stipend is now what I would’ve gotten if I had already ascended to Rank 5.”
“No changes on the advancements,” he continued, briefly scratching the back of his head. “As for the blueprints, I’ll have to head to the Imperial Production Guild for that since they’ve given me access to their entire repository.”
Considering that the Imperial Production Guild had control over all of the Blacksmith Guild branches throughout the continent, that meant the number of blueprints Valyr would have access to was at least a couple dozen times greater than what he had access to back at Algerie Kingdom.
Of course, he understood that he would be better off obtaining all of those blueprints once he either reached the peak of mortality or transcended it and became a Myth.
Though, with his experience of unknowingly pushing his mental faculties beyond their normal limits, he felt that he had a good shot of at least cramming half of it in his mind.
“Regarding the new agreements I’ve made with Alvin, there’s not really much to say about that.” After hazarding a guess on how many blueprints his brain could handle, the young man returned his train of thought back to the remaining agreements he made.
“For one, I have to teach others how to forge a snaplock, which isn’t really any different from the time I taught others how to forge an arquebus,” muttered Valyr to himself.
“Then again, considering that they’d need to unlock advancements at the Age of Renaissance to actually forge it, I suppose it would indeed take a while.”
“Then there’s the agreement regarding the mana crystals and the snaplocks.” As these words left his mouth, the young man faintly nodded in satisfaction, briefly recalling the discussion he had with Byron over the matter. “Could probably do a couple batches in my spare time.”
“However, compared to those two, I feel like the ones I made with the town in mind have got to be the most beneficial,” said Valyr soon after, a smile adorning his face as he thought back to his discussion with Alvin.
Although the conditions he had asked Alvin to agree at first were undoubtedly disadvantageous for the Imperial Production Guild, the two were eventually able to find a compromise in the form of two agreements.
The first agreement was that the Imperial Production Guild would help fund the development of New Ecalos into a city.
Naturally, this made Valyr suspicious of Alvin at first, considering that the agreement could be misconstrued as already being fulfilled by having paid the young man for the snaplocks.
Fortunately, the old man clarified that the payment and the development fund were two different things, assuring Valyr that the latter would be taken care of the moment he got back to the Imperial Production Guild.
As for the second agreement, it involved introducing the existence of the various class guilds into New Ecalos, which was similar to the introduction of the Blacksmith Guild back at Astarto Town.
Considering that the Imperial Production Guild had control over the class guilds of the four main professions, the young man was confident that New Ecalos would turn into a city sooner rather than later.
“Since most of the Forsaken I’ve seen are talented with their hands, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them end up joining the class guilds and transform New Ecalos into a city renowned for its craft,” said Valyr, a slight smile appearing on his face the more he thought about it.
Though, just as he began to wonder what would happen if that aspect were to be combined with the town’s ability to generate electricity, the young man’s train of thought was sadly cut short by Ataraxia’s arrival.
‘I’m here,’ said the young man through their connection.
‘Time to head to the estate.’
