MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith - Chapter 1665 1665: A Special Mission

At first, when they heard that what Lunarossa wanted to tell them back at the tournament was to become part of a special mission, the two felt that keeping it under wraps made a lot of sense.
Though, when they heard that the mission was to infiltrate the territories of the two other races, the two were both glad and relieved that she decided not to mention it during the tournament.
After all, even though the events during the tournament confirmed that Erika was a part of the Crimson Cathedral through and through, there was still a good chance that her motives during the tournament partly had something to do with the two other races.
By extension, that meant that there was the possibility of her having a connection with either the elves or the orcs one way or another.
“Wait…” Although he had already given himself a bit of time to wrap his head around the mission Lunarossa wanted them to take, the young man still felt confusion towards a number of things regarding the entire thing.
“Why us?” he asked, feeling like that was the most important answer he wanted to obtain from the woman before them. “I mean… we are a part of the Meltierre Imperial Guards and it’s part of our duty to accept a mission, but why give us that mission specifically?”
“It’s mostly because of the strength and talent the two of you have,” replied Lunarossa with a confident smile. “However, that does not mean that the two of you are the only people I’ve asked so far to take part in this mission.”
At those words, the woman went ahead and gave the two a brief rundown of how the mission system for the Meltierre Imperial Guards worked, informing them that the missions they had to do usually fell into two categories.
The first category of missions were those that were more in line with what was expected from a guard.
From having to protect someone, to sending assistance to certain parts of the defensive line during the ongoing war, such missions were usually found on a specific mission board only Imperial Guards had access to.
Considering that they were free for all Imperial Guards to look at, then that also meant that any Imperial Guard was free to either accept the mission or reject it.
As for the second category of missions, those missions were more along the lines of what Lunarossa requested from the two, which were generally known as specialized missions.
Unlike the first category, specialized missions involved tasks that slightly went beyond the scope of what was expected from a guard, which prompted them to only be given to those that had either the abilities or the strength to complete those missions.
Though, just like the first category, it was still up to the one receiving the specialized mission if they would accept it or not.
“Including the two of you, I’ve asked around 20 people in total to take part in this mission,” said Lunarossa after she was done with her explanation.
“So far, only four have accepted the task,” she continued with a bitter smile. “Of course, I don’t blame the others for rejecting. After all, getting caught in enemy territory is an incredibly massive risk.”
“Why the need to infiltrate their territories, though?” asked Ataraxia in response, to which Valyr faintly nodded in agreement.
“Generally speaking, it’s to improve the information the empire has on them,” replied Lunarossa. “Though, if you want me to be more specific, then there are a good number of reasons why.”
“For one, it’s to rehearse an effective counterattack against the orcs and elves in response to the ambush we’ve suffered a few months ago,” she said, prompting the two to pay more attention to her words. “By knowing which areas of their territories are less defended, the higher our chances of mounting a successful ambush.”
“Aside from that, having someone obtain information on various people directly from enemy territory would immensely aid the other special missions we’ve given to other people.”
As those words left her mouth, Lunarossa looked at Valyr with a slight smile. “What if I told you the mission your War Squad accepted would benefit from this mission?”
“The High Sovereign’s whereabouts?” asked the young man in response, immediately understanding what she was trying to tell him.
“Precisely.” The woman nodded in return.
“I see.” Valyr nodded back in understanding, only to then fall silent as he pondered over her words.
“If we were to accept this mission, would we have to head to the other races’ territories right away?” Understanding that his other self was still listening to the conversation, Ataraxia went ahead and asked Lunarossa the other parts that still confused them.
“That all depends on the two of you, actually,” the woman replied, prompting both of them to look at her with a hint of surprise as she continued talking.
“Though I won’t stop the two of you if you wanted to proceed with the mission right away, I’d say that the two of you would be better off taking on the mission after the Nine Heavenly Pillars Tournament is concluded.”
Briefly wondering why the empire-level tournament would have something to do with the mission, Valyr and Ataraxia’s confusion regarding the matter was soon dispelled by her follow-up explanation.
According to her, there were two reasons why she wanted them to take the mission after the tournament.
The first reason was to increase the chances of a successful infiltration.
If all of the guards that accepted the mission were to try and infiltrate into the depths of enemy territory at the same time, then their chances of actually infiltrating into the enemy territory would become next to nothing.
With that in mind, Lunarossa aimed to have the guards try and infiltrate into enemy territory at different times, making great use of the highs and lows that covered the entirety of the war in order to boost their chances.
As for the second reason, it was actually something both Valyr and Ataraxia already had experience with back when they were going through the Myriad Prodigies Tournament.
Though, unlike back then where Mystia was the one that had recruited them, Lunarossa was the one recruiting them directly.
“So, are the two of you going to accept the mission?” Seeing as she’d said everything that needed to be said about the mission, Lunarossa went ahead and asked the two the question she’d been waiting to ask from the very start.
“Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if the two of you declined. With your talents and strengths, infiltrating into the territories of the orcs and elves carry a high risk.”
Glancing at each other for a bit after that, Valyr eventually looked back at her before saying, “We don’t mind accepting the mission, but we do have one more question about the mission.”
“Ask away,” replied Lunarossa, feeling a bit relieved after hearing them accept.
“Will there be any additional rewards if we were to complete the mission given to us?”
“…”
“…”
“…Are you… are you serious?”
