“…A substitute main class, huh?”
Going over his conversation with Mystia as he made his way back to where he was earlier, Valyr softly let out a chuckle as he closed his eyes.
“I suppose that’s the best way to describe that.”
Processing all of the new information he obtained from the conversation in his mind, the young man went ahead and combined it with what he already knew.
By the time he opened his eyes once more, he now had a deeper understanding of his newly obtained subclass, giving him the ability to look past the surface of the skills he obtained from the upgrade.
‘Of course, I still need to actually use them while concocting,’ muttered Valyr to himself, chuckling once more. ‘Good thing I have plenty of opportunities to do so while working on the next set of prerequisite quests.’
Ding!
Just as the thought came to mind, a screen soon appeared before the young man’s field of vision. Contained within it were the quests he needed to complete in order to upgrade [True Mystic Rune Alchemist] to the next rarity.

‘…Yeouch.’
Sucking in a breath of cold air after seeing how many quests there were for him to complete, the shock Valyr felt from the long screen gradually subsided the more he read through it.
‘If I think about it, the current list is just an expanded version of the quests I completed earlier,’ he muttered to himself as he let out a soft sigh of relief. ‘The only difference would be the quest needing me to comprehend a concept related to Mystic Energy.’
‘Thankfully, Ataraxia and I pushed the Intent of Mystic Energy to 5th Grade a long time ago,’ the young man continued, faintly smiling at the thought.
Reading through the list of quests once more, Valyr slowly began to formulate his next plan of action, hoping to tackle the list in a way where he’d maximize both experience gained and time saved.
After all, he still needed to head to the Meltierre Killing Grounds once everything was said and done.
‘…How’s the upgrade?’ Just as the young man finally had a rough idea of what to do next, his train of thought was promptly interrupted by Ataraxia’s curious voice.
‘I got a lot more than what I bargained for,’ responded Valyr in return, sending over some of his memories regarding the upgrade over to his other self in the process.
‘Not gonna lie, with how many skills I got from the upgrade, I’m kind of tempted to dissuade you,’ said the young man after that. ‘After all, if upgrading it to Uncommon grade already yields this much, what more once we push it even further?’
‘…You got me for a second there,’ replied Ataraxia after a bit of pause. ‘For a second, I was ready to change my mind and go all in on becoming a True Mystic Rune Alchemist.’
‘Unfortunately, you’ve already done that, so I have no reason to do the same thing either,’ he continued, his chuckle echoing throughout Valyr’s mind. ‘Plus, if my idea works out, we’ll gain even more than me heading down the same path you’ve taken.’
‘Emphasis on if,’ reminded the latter. ‘Only if it works.’
Ataraxia inwardly shrugged at those words. ‘Even if it doesn’t, time would be the only thing that I’ve lost.’
‘Anyways, enough about me.’ He shifted the topic of their conversation soon after. ‘What do you plan on doing next?’
‘Upgrade the subclass even further,’ answered Valyr without missing a beat. ‘Though, realistically speaking, I’ll probably stop upgrading it once it reaches Epic grade.’
‘How about you?’
‘I’m gonna familiarize myself with Mystic Rune Alchemy a bit more,’ replied Ataraxia. ‘To be more specific, the rune that allows Mystic Rune Alchemy to occur in the first place.’
‘Gotcha.’ Valyr nodded in understanding. ‘In any case, don’t hesitate to call for me if you need my help.’
‘Why would I?’ The former chuckled in response. ‘We’re in this together, after all.’
After sending a few more messages back and forth between them, the two eventually finished their conversation, prompting them to return their focus to their current task at hand.
…
“So, what do you think? Think you finally got the hang of it?”
Whoosh!
Willing the amalgamated essence within the cloud to fill the empty vials placed beneath it, Ataraxia had a relaxed smile on his face as he gave Mystia a slight nod.
“I think I got it, Miss Mystia,” said the young man, capping off the filled vials before chucking them into his spatial bracelet. “I still have one question, though.”
“What question?” Mystia raised her eyebrow in response. “Is it about the alchemical process? Or is it about Mystic Rune Alchemy?”
“The latter,” he replied, his expression slightly serious. “I get how Mystic Energy replaces the cauldron in the alchemical process…”
“But what does the rune have anything to do with Mystic Rune Alchemy? Is it really just for the sake of increasing the number of batches you could concoct at once?”
“Well…” As the question left Ataraxia’s mouth, the woman in question rubbed her chin in contemplation as she sought to give the young man an answer that went a bit more in-depth.
Yet, as she continued to think more and more about it, the more she realized that the question itself was already the answer.
After all, striking a fine balance between quantity and quality was the reason behind the birth of Mystic Rune Alchemy in the first place.
‘I’m getting the feeling that that’s not what he wants to hear, though…’ Understanding this, Mystia soon fell silent, the gears in her mind still turning as she noticed the curious yet anticipatory expression on Ataraxia’s face.
With that in mind, the woman eventually let out a faint sigh as she soon made up her mind.
“I think Marcus would be able to answer your question the best,” she told Ataraxia, pointing at Marcus not far away from them.
“…Huh?” In response, the man in question could only look back at the two of them in puzzlement.
“How did I get caught up in this?”
