Whoosh!
After both he and the system came to an agreement, Ataraxia noticed that the temporal stasis affecting the Mystic Plane was gradually being lifted.
Keeping a calm expression on his face as he went over the information the system shared with him one more time, the young man soon found Marcus moving about once more, the latter’s attention still focused on the basic runes.
“Hmm?” Feeling like something happened to the Mystic Plane for a brief instant, Marcus shifted his attention away from the basic runes for a bit as he spread it all over the concept plane, hoping to find where that feeling came from.
In a matter of seconds, he was able to confirm that the feeling originated from the current vicinity, prompting him to return his attention to what was in front of him… and what stood beside him.
“…Huh.” Yet, no matter how much he looked at both the basic runes and Ataraxia, Marcus still couldn’t figure out where the odd feeling he got originated.
Because of that, he decided to shelf the thought for now, instead recalling the word the young man uttered before the brief incident.
“What did you say just now?” he asked, looking at the latter with a hint of curiosity.
“Purify,” replied Ataraxia, inwardly letting out a sigh of relief as he pointed at one of the two runes that were separated from the other ones.
“Although it may not seem like it at first glance, this rune actually embodies the meaning of purification in the form of Mystic Energy,” he added, hoping that his explanation would give Marcus an idea of what he was talking about.
“Really?” Surprisingly, it did not take the latter that much time to put two and two together in his head.
Pointing at the same rune the young man was pointing at, he asked, “You’re telling me that this rune is basically the foundation of the Mystic Rune I made?”
“In terms of what it does, yes.” Ataraxia nodded after giving the question a bit of thought. “Though… calling it the foundation of the Mystic Rune isn’t exactly accurate.”
Shifting Marcus’ attention towards the eight other runes making up the Mystic Alchemical Rune, he continued, “From what I could tell, all of the runes combined make the Mystic Rune you made a reality.”
“If you removed even one of them from the Mystic Rune you made, the result would have a vastly different effect compared to the one that currently exists.”
“Is that so?” Marcus fell into pensive thought after that.
Not long after, he pointed at one of the other runes. “How about this one? What meaning does it have?”
“I… haven’t figured that out yet,” replied Ataraxia as he let out a slightly awkward chuckle. “But with one of the runes finally cracked open, I don’t think it’ll be long until we figure out the meanings of the other runes.”
Sharing a couple more words with the man regarding the topic, the two of them went their separate ways a couple minutes later, leaving Ataraxia with the grouping of runes Marcus showed him.
‘You there?’
Staring at the group of basic runes hovering before him, the young man sent a message through the connection he shared with Valyr.
‘What’s up?’ Unsurprisingly, the latter responded to the message the moment it was sent.
‘A lot of things,’ Ataraxia replied, sending over the information he deduced just now, as well as the conversation he had with the system regarding the idea he was tackling.
‘That’s…’ Going over the information that was just sent to him, it took a while for Valyr to process it before sending back a response. ‘Wow.’
‘I’m both surprised and not surprised to find out that there’s more to the Mystic Rune than meets the eye.’
‘But what does surprise me is the existence of Forerunners.’
‘Yeah.” Ataraxia nodded in agreement. ‘From the information the system shared, becoming a Forerunner is a necessary requirement to break through the ceiling of the Divine level.’
‘What does Origin correspond to, then?’ asked Valyr in return. ‘If it was a requirement to break through to the Divine level, we would’ve known that a long time ago. Yet, only now are we learning of it.’
‘Probably something similar to Intents?’ said the former after giving it a bit of thought. ‘Wait, that’s not right. From the information the system shared, Forerunners would come before Origins since achieving the former needs you to discover something from scratch.’
‘There’s no point thinking too deep into it,’ Valyr promptly reminded him. ‘All we need to keep in mind is that this is a massive opportunity. In fact, it’s a timely one since there’s still a lot of time before the tournament.’
‘Aside from that, going over the conversation you had with the system made me realize that I could probably become a Forerunner as well through Prime Azure Energy.’
‘But of course, I’ll do that in the future. I’ve still yet to get [Anathema of the Ascended].’
Sharing a few more words with his other self over what they were currently doing and what they’d do after they were done, Ataraxia eventually returned his attention back to the basic runes in front of him as he adopted a serious expression.
“One down…”
“Eight more to go.”
…
Whoosh!
Conjuring a Mystic Alchemical Rune in front of him, Ataraxia calmly stared at it before proceeding to dissect it with multiple wisps of Mystic Energy.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
By the time the rune was broken down to its most basic parts, he then proceeded to remove all of the copies and redundancies that made up the rune, only leaving the nine basic runes he had been staring at for the past three months.
‘Purify, Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Amplify, Balance, and Focus.’
Lining up the basic runes in a row, the young man proceeded to casually list the basic runes one by one, showing how much his knowledge and understanding of Mystic Runes had improved.
‘Out of all of these runes, only one of them has eluded my understanding during these past few months,’ Ataraxia muttered, moving the basic runes he had just described out of the way as he only left one in front of him.
Recalling that it was the other rune that was separated from the groupings Marcus made, the young man stared at it for a bit, only to then smile not long after.
‘Thankfully, that ends here.’
“Creation.”
Whoosh!
As that single word left his mouth, Ataraxia went ahead and lined the basic runes up once more, only to then fuse them together with the help of his Mystic Energy.
Swoosh!
Continuing to infuse more and more of his Mystic Energy into the fusion, the young man watched as all of it transformed into copies of the nine basic runes.
Eventually, a brand new Mystic Alchemical Rune appeared in front of him.
Yet, at the same time, it looked a bit different from the Mystic Alchemical Rune both he and Valyr knew.
‘Yeah… I think this is enough.’
Looking at the Mystic Rune he had just created from a couple of different angles, Ataraxia soon nodded in satisfaction as he took a couple steps back.
Then, staring off into the distance, he said, “System, I’ve come to uphold my part of the deal.”
Ding!
