Chapter 1769: Fighting a Rank 7 (1)
“…”
“…We’re here.”
Opening her eyes after a long meditation, Mystia looked through the carriage windows for a bit to check their surroundings.
Seeing that they had finally arrived at the periphery of the Infernal Badlands, she faintly nodded in satisfaction before infusing great amounts of energy into the carriage.
“Hold on tight, you two,” she said soon after, giving the two a slight smile. “This is gonna be a bit bumpy.”
Whoosh!
Before both Valyr and Ataraxia could even respond to her reminder, Mystia went ahead and started to move the carriage closer to the ground at great speeds, causing many of the items in the carriage to start floating in response.
Not wanting to end up in a sorry state by the end of their descent, the two used all of the means available to them to remain affixed to the floor, whether it be through the use of energy or through the help of miscellaneous items.
Nevertheless, Mystia continued to send the carriage barreling towards the ground, eventually causing a few sparks to appear on the frame of the carriage from the speed they were moving through the air.
Thankfully, by the time the carriage was only a couple hundred meters away from meeting the earth once more, she shifted the energy she infused into the carriage elsewhere.
Swoosh!
From what felt like speedily falling through the air at first, the carriage now felt like it was being gently carried down to the ground, causing both Valyr and Ataraxia to think that her actions were probably intentional.
’It’s either because of the environment…’ muttered Ataraxia through their connection after looking out of one of the windows for some time. ’Or because she just wants to mess with us.’
Glancing out another window to look at the Infernal Badlands before turning to look at Mystia, Valyr eventually got his answer after noticing the faint teasing smile on the edge of the former’s lips.
’She’s just messing with us,’ he said, a wry smile appearing on his face in return. ’I guess she’s doing it to get a reaction out of us.’
As those words echoed in Ataraxia’s mind, the young man turned to look at Mystia himself, only to then notice the slightly expectant expression on the latter’s face.
Realizing that his other self’s words might be true, the young man merely had a slight frown on his face for a brief moment, which gradually disappeared by the time they made contact with the ground once more.
As for Valyr, the wry smile on his face remained there for a bit longer, prompting him to shake his head as he took in a deep breath to compose himself soon after.
“Tch.” Seeing the two young man before her not give the reaction she was expecting, Mystia could not help but click her tongue as she reclaimed the energy that she previously wrapped around the carriage.
“You’re no fun.”
“…In what way is that fun?” said Valyr in response, faintly shaking his head as he made his way out of the carriage.
By the time he alighted the carriage, a sight vastly different from the other parts of the continent appeared before him, giving him a firm reminder that he had entered a place considered by the empire as no man’s land.
Whether it was the sky or the ground, everything in their surroundings was tinged with a hint of red, giving off the feeling that the entire area was attuned to the Fire element.
Taking a few more steps into the territory, he soon noticed small pools of lava scattered about.
Because of that, he took note of the couple large mountains off in the distance, which in hindsight he now realized were the active volcanoes Mystia was talking about.
“Welcome to the Infernal Badlands,” said Mystia after watching both Valyr and Ataraxia look around them for some time. “Though I know the two of you might have thoughts of just getting the fight with the Rank 7 being over with, I’d suggest we head to the outpost for the meantime.”
“After all, it’s best to have someone who’s more familiar with the territory,” she continued, walking towards a direction that led one away from the Infernal Badlands. “I’m also feeling a bit hungry after traveling for so long. How about you two?”
Looking at each other for a bit after that, the two soon responded to her words with a series of nods, telling her that they would follow her arrangements.
With that, the three left the Infernal Badlands, only to find themselves at an outpost made up of a few small buildings a few minutes later.
…
“It’s finally good to see you again, Mystia!”
While the three were eating their fill at the outpost’s dining area, a man in thick leather armor appeared in front of them all of a sudden, giving Mystia a toothy grin.
“Hath.” Mystia nodded as she smiled back in greeting. “It has indeed been a while since we’ve last met. How have you been?”
“Well, ever since you left the outpost, I’ve been…”
While Hath and Mystia were in the middle of catching up on what the other side was doing, both Valyr and Ataraxia glanced at each other for a bit as they continued to finish their respective meals.
’He’s probably the guide Mystia was hinting at us earlier,’ said Valyr through their connection as he took another look at the man’s appearance.
Though the man’s face bore the hardships and challenges that came after a few decades of existence, his body seemed to give off the vitality of someone in their prime.
Add on the faint fiery aura that emanated from the thick leather armor the man wore, the man gave off a wild feeling that seemed like a perfect fit for a place like the Infernal Badlands, a place where only powerful monsters thrived.
“Hath, let me introduce you to these two.” After they were done catching up with one another, Mystia redirected the man’s attention towards the two young men. “This is Ylvar, and this is Ataraxia.”
“Both of them are my disciples in a way, living up to the legacy I’ve created and more,” she said, a hint of pride in her eyes. “Surely I don’t have to tell you why we’re here, no?”
“Of course not.” Hath nodded with a slight grin. “To be honest, I’m still shocked you’d let these two fight a Rank 7 being at their level. Even a peak Rank 6 like me wouldn’t dare fight one without making the necessary preparations.”
“They may have inherited my legacy, but they’re in no way weak,” said Mystia in response, a slight smile adorning her face. “Plus, who says they haven’t made their own preparations? Though it may not seem like it, both of them will be participating in the upcoming Nine Heavenly Pillars tournament.”
“Impressive at their age…” Hearing those words, the man began to look at them in a slightly different light. “But still makes what you want them to do incredibly reckless.”
“After all, who in their right mind would fight an Elder Wyvern at their current rank?”
