My Celestial Ascension - Chapter 805: Fire Resistance

Chapter 805: Fire Resistance
The Wyverns circled high above the Elven Kingdom like predators stalking their prey. Each beat of their enormous wings stirred the air into heavy gusts, and every bone-rattling roar echoed across the city, shaking the very ground. Their powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth gleamed under the sunlight, striking primal fear into the hearts of the elves below.
For the elves—peace-loving guardians of the forest—such a sight was deeply unsettling. They preferred harmony, quiet, and the gentle rhythm of nature, avoiding any disturbance to the balance they cherished. But now, the tranquility of their homeland was under the shadow of predators from the sky.
“The city looks peaceful from up here…” Kaelrath murmured from atop his Wyvern, his gaze sweeping over the sprawling treetop homes and rope bridges of the kingdom.
A small grin tugged at his lips. “Yet despite its serenity, this kingdom houses some of the most formidable warriors on the Beast Continent. And even now… we are being watched.”
“Indeed, my lord,” Zerath replied, his silver hair whipping in the wind. He could feel the focused killing intent of the elven archers hidden among the high branches, their arrows already drawn and aimed at the intruders.
“Shall we proceed to the palace?”
Kaelrath gave a slow nod. “Yes. Best not to provoke their soldiers—yet. But once I have their Queen in my grasp… that will change.”
“Understood, my lord.” Zerath gestured sharply, and the riders shifted into formation, guiding their Wyverns toward the Evergreen Palace.
Midway through their flight, something caught both their eyes—a familiar figure moving swiftly along the path toward the palace, her hand clasped around that of a man. Recognition flashed in their expressions.
“Isn’t that… the Queen’s shadow?” Kaelrath’s tone was laced with surprise. His gaze narrowed, studying Sylvia closely. “And she’s with… a human?”
“Perhaps there’s a connection between them,” Zerath said coolly. “From the look of it, she’s quite close to him.”
Kaelrath’s eyes lingered on Yuan, then slid back to Sylvia. A slow, predatory smile curved across his face, the kind that promised trouble.
“Perfect… This is exactly the kind of opportunity the gods gift once in a lifetime. If her shadow is away… the Queen will be far easier to claim.”
He licked his lips subtly, his expression turning lewd. “Zerath—stop her before she reaches the palace. Keep her busy as long as possible. I’ll go straight for the Queen.”
“As you command.” Zerath’s grin was cold, his silver eyes glinting.
Without hesitation, he veered his Wyvern toward Sylvia, half of the riders following in his wake.
The other half remained with Kaelrath, their presence forming a shield for their leader as he descended toward the Evergreen Palace—his prize in sight.
“Commander Zerath, should we attack the human and the women with him?” one of the Wyvern riders asked, gripping his reins as the beasts thrashed in anticipation.
“Do as you wish,” Zerath said, his tone low but sharp. His silver eyes locked on Sylvia. “But do not—under any circumstances—underestimate her. She is extremely dangerous. Keep your distance at all times.”
With a smooth motion, he reached over his shoulder and drew the massive sword strapped to his back, the blade gleaming in the sunlight.
ROAR! The Wyverns bellowed as their riders gave the signal. A second later, streams of blazing fire erupted from their gaping maws, surging toward Sylvia and Yuan like rivers of molten death.
BOOM! The flames hit the ground with explosive force, sending a shockwave across the street. The heat was so intense it scorched the earth black in an instant, then melted it into bubbling, molten rock.
Ding!
[Fire resistance has slightly improved!]
[Fire resistance has slightly improved!]
[Fire resistance has slightly improved!]
Yuan stood within the blazing inferno, feeling waves of heat gnaw at his skin like swarms of biting ants. He could have dodged easily—but he didn’t. He wanted to see how far his body could endure.
Sylvia, on the other hand, instantly surrounded herself with a shimmering layer of Qi, the flames rolling harmlessly off her as she stood in the heart of the firestorm.
“This is… incredible,” Yuan muttered through clenched teeth, his eyes alight despite the pain. “The Wyvern flames… they’re refining my body. Painful as hell, but effective.”
“Yuan!!” Anna Grace and the others cried out, panic flashing in their eyes at the sight of him engulfed in fire.
Above, the Wyvern riders peered down through the rising smoke, unable to see clearly.
“Did we get them?” one asked uncertainly.
“No…” Zerath’s voice dropped into a cold, dangerous register as his gaze pierced through the smoke. “They’re still standing. Inside the flames.”
His grip on his sword tightened. “Keep attacking! They can’t last forever. All riders—attack at once!”
Another wave of dragonfire rained down from the sky, the Wyverns unleashing their full fury.
Ding!
[Fire resistance has improved drastically!]
[Fire resistance has improved drastically!]
Yuan’s lips curled into a grin despite the searing pain. ’It’s working… my fire resistance is growing even faster now.’
But even as he welcomed the onslaught, his gaze swept the burning treetops. The Elven Kingdom was built among massive, ancient trees, each home nestled within living wood. If the Wyverns kept this up, the flames would spread—and the elves would pay the price.
His eyes hardened. ’I can’t let this go on any longer.’
If even a single tree caught fire, the rest of the kingdom would go up in flames. The Elven Kingdom’s homes and bridges were all woven into the vast forest canopy—one spark could turn it into a sea of fire. Countless elves would die, and Yuan refused to let that happen to Mireya and Sylvia’s people.
Panic rippled through the streets. Shopkeepers slammed their shutters closed, grabbing their children and running toward safe zones. The air filled with terrified screams, but the Wyvern riders paid no heed—they kept up their relentless assault.
Through the billowing flames, two silhouettes emerged.
The Wyvern riders’ eyes widened.
“H-How the hell are they alive?! Is this even possible?!” one shouted, his voice breaking.
’Damn it!’ Zerath cursed inwardly, his teeth grinding. ’Even with so many Wyverns, we can’t kill two people? Is this some kind of sick joke?!’
Yuan stepped forward, his expression calm but his voice sharp. “Xi Meili, kill those Wyverns—bring them all down.”
A wide grin spread across Xi Meili’s face. “Leave those pests to me, hubby.”
She strode forward, her gaze locking on the circling Wyverns. In an instant, the mighty beasts froze mid-flight, their wings stiffening. A primal terror radiated from her, digging deep into their bloodlines.
“W-What’s happening to the Wyverns?! Why are they acting like this?!” the riders screamed as their mounts began to plummet.
Thud! Thud! Massive bodies slammed into the earth, shaking the ground. Necks snapped. Scales split. The air filled with the sound of crushing bone.
“Aghh!!” Riders wailed in agony as they were pinned under the dead Wyverns’ weight. Those quick enough to leap away still crashed to the ground with bone-breaking force—they had been flying far too high to land safely.
Zerath landed hard before Yuan and his wives, his face twisted in fury. His own Wyvern lay nearby, its skull shattered against the earth.
Sylvia’s eyes were sharp as blades. “Look at you now—appearing like the loser you are. Attacking from the shadows like a coward.”
Her words cut deep, and Zerath’s glare darkened. “Hmph! Don’t think you’ve won just because you killed most of my men and their mounts. Soon, you’ll be the one begging me for mercy.”
A cold, dangerous smile spread across Sylvia’s face. “You’re as arrogant as I remember. Too proud to admit your own weakness. That’s why you hide behind false bravado… and why you’ll always be a coward.”
From the palace steps, Mireya appeared, retrieving a pair of gleaming daggers from her spatial ring. Her voice was calm, but her eyes were ice.
“Zerath… your pride will be your end.”
Zerath’s rage boiled over at the humiliation. He wanted nothing more than to silence this sharp-tongued woman with her life.
With a vicious glare, he swung his massive sword, the blade carving a deep line into the ground. Resting both hands on the hilt as though it were a walking stick, he smirked arrogantly.
“You won’t cross this line until my lord finishes what he came here for,” he declared with smug finality.
“And that is?” Sylvia asked, one brow raised, though the answer was obvious.
His lips curled in a grin. “To take her as one of his women. By the time you defeat me—if you can—he’ll be done with your Queen. Just a matter of moments now.”
“I see…” Sylvia’s chuckle was soft, but her eyes were ice. She couldn’t help feeling a dark amusement at the arrogance of the Dragon Blood Tribe’s leader.
’Kaelrath… you’ve walked into the palace without the faintest idea of what Mireya truly is. You’ll regret it. I doubt you’ll leave alive,’ she thought, her smile turning faintly predatory.
“Hahahahaha!!” Yuan’s sudden laughter cut through the tension, drawing every gaze to him.
“What’s so funny, brat? Did the flames fry your brain?” Zerath snarled, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
Yuan’s grin was razor-sharp. “Funny? No. It’s just… in a few minutes, your lord will know what real hell feels like. He has no idea how terrifying my wife is.” His voice dripped with contempt.
Turning to Sylvia, Yuan’s tone shifted into something colder. “Sylvia, take his limbs—but don’t kill him. I want him to see what happens to his leader.”
A cruel smirk tugged at Yuan’s lips as his gaze locked on Zerath. “I’m sure he’ll… enjoy the sight.”
“Leave this bag of meat to me, dear.” Sylvia’s chuckle was low, but her expression hardened in an instant, her aura spiking to a deadly edge.
Sensing the danger, Zerath gripped his sword tighter and lunged with everything he had. His foot slammed into the earth, shattering the ground beneath him, and his body shot forward in a blur.
BOOM!
In a heartbeat, he was before Sylvia, sword swinging in a lethal arc—still wearing that arrogant smirk.
Mireya, standing to the side, didn’t even blink. She rolled her eyes, letting one dagger slip from her hand. To her, the attack was laughable.
Extending her bare hand, she caught the incoming blade effortlessly. Steel screeched to a halt in her palm, and Zerath’s eyes went wide.
“N-No way…” he breathed, disbelief flooding his face.
“Boring,” Sylvia’s voice cut through his shock like a blade. “If you want to kill me, you’ll need to do far better than this. This is child’s play.”
Her fingers clenched.
CRACK! The sword shattered like brittle glass.
Before Zerath could even move, Sylvia’s figure blurred. In the blink of an eye, steel flashed four times.
SPLAT! Blood sprayed across the dirt. Zerath screamed as all four of his limbs hit the ground, severed cleanly.
Sylvia didn’t spare him a glance. “Stay there. You’ll want to be awake for what’s coming.”
