My Celestial Ascension - Chapter 912: Emperor Rhex’s Concerns

Chapter 912: Emperor Rhex’s Concerns
Once silence settled in the room after Nerith left, the air grew heavy with tension as Rhex and Varia remained seated.
“I never thought our situation would escalate to this point… it’s too sudden. I wonder how the citizens will react once they learn about it,” Rhex muttered a moment later while gazing at the ceiling with a concerned look on his face.
The citizens were completely oblivious to the danger looming over them, still going about their business as they did every other day.
They did not even have the slightest idea that the empire would be attacked by undead creatures in just a few weeks. A massive war was approaching—not just any war, but a war for survival, not conquest.
Every life would be at risk if the undead creatures breached the border; everywhere would be filled with chaos and destruction.
Both Rhex and Varia felt deep concern for the safety of their people, as the citizens remained unaware of the approaching war.
There was still time to warn everyone and bring all the villagers near the border to safety.
After remaining silent for a while, Varia looked at her husband and said, “We should warn our people about the approaching war… they have the right to know about our situation. After all, it’s a matter of survival.”
“I’ll do that now… it would be unwise to keep our people in the dark,” Emperor Rhex nodded with a serious expression and released a heavy sigh.
“And don’t forget to inform Yuan and his companions… there is a high possibility that they will offer their help,” Varia reminded him.
“I’ll do that after I send someone to announce the danger to the public. Every citizen of my empire should be aware of the current situation.”
“Alright. I’ll write a letter to the four Dukes and inform them about the latest discoveries, and also order them to increase the security of their cities’ defenses,” Varia said, nodding in agreement.
“That’s very thoughtful of you,” Emperor Rhex replied with a nod before leaving the room.
Once her husband left, Varia immediately began writing letters to the four Dukes, explaining the current situation to them.
She did not leave out a single detail and issued specific orders to evacuate the villages outside the main cities, bringing the people inside for protection.
She also instructed that each city mobilize its citizens and construct defensive barricades around the walls to reduce the chances of undead creatures breaking in.
After finishing the letters, she ordered the servants to deliver them to each Duke’s territory immediately so they could prepare for the worst possible situation without delay.
“This should warn them about the current danger and push them to begin their preparations at once,” Varia sighed softly, her concern growing heavier as the threat drew closer.
Meanwhile, Emperor Rhex ordered his minister to make an announcement in the city square and warn every citizen about the approaching danger.
“Your Majesty, if we announce such disturbing news to the public, wouldn’t it cause panic?” the minister asked with a worried expression, his face grim after learning about the situation at the border.
Emperor Rhex sighed heavily and spoke, “I cannot bring myself to keep my citizens in the dark. The war is approaching, and with the movement of soldiers, the citizens will naturally grow curious.”
“Once they realize the truth, they will only blame us… It is better to reveal everything to them rather than keep them ignorant. This way is better, and what we need now is the support of our people.”
“Sure, they would panic for a moment, knowing what kind of danger is approaching us. But it will also make them more aware of their situation,” Emperor Rhex explained with a firm look on his face.
“I-I understand, Your Majesty,” the minister sighed as the realization dawned on him.
He finally understood that if they kept the people in the dark for now, when the danger drew closer, the citizens would be furious. And if they began to rebel in such a dire situation, the consequences would be disastrous.
“You should leave now and make the announcement as soon as possible. Every citizen should be aware of the situation before sunset,” Emperor Rhex spoke, his voice laced with authority and deep concern for his people.
“I’ll make the announcement immediately.” With a deep bow, the minister promptly left the Imperial Hall.
Once the minister departed, the emperor leaned back and stared at the ceiling, his eyes filled with concern about the future of the empire.
“I hope the other nations begin their preparations as soon as they receive the news… or else, we won’t be able to stop the undead from crossing the border…” He sighed deeply, hoping for the best.
He remained like that for the next few minutes, lost in thought about the coming war.
Just then, he remembered something his wife had told him before he left her in the room.
“Right, I should go and inform Yuan and his companions about the current predicament. Although I don’t have much hope that they will cooperate with us, I should still try,” he muttered to himself before standing up and leaving the Imperial Hall.
—
Yuan and the others were currently doing nothing, idling around to pass the time. However, they soon noticed the unusual movement within the palace and the strange behavior of the servants.
“Strange… why does everyone seem to be in such a rush?” Julie muttered, watching the servants run around with panic written across their faces.
“Perhaps something happened in the city, or the Imperial Family has ordered them to do something urgently,” Leah said with a soft sigh.
“You may be right, Leah. I shouldn’t worry about it…” Julie nodded and sighed quietly.
Just then, they noticed Rhex approaching them with an unusual look on his face. He appeared troubled by something, and they could see nothing but concern in his expression.
“You don’t seem to be doing well, Emperor Rhex. What is the matter that is making you worry so much?” Yuan asked calmly.
Emperor Rhex sighed heavily before sitting down on the sofa, a weary look on his face as if something significant was about to unfold.
“I have very urgent news to share…” he said, looking at Yuan with a firm expression.
“We’re listening. Please, speak freely,” Yuan replied, nodding with a faint smile.
Nodding in return, Rhex said, “The situation at the border has been getting out of hand recently, and you are already aware of that.”
“Indeed. Princess Nerith has informed me about it,” Yuan nodded. “She said that the number of undead appearing has increased recently.”
“Sigh… It seems she hasn’t revealed the full story to you yet. Perhaps she held back because you are our guests,” Emperor Rhex sighed, his expression turning grave.
“The situation has suddenly changed. We now find ourselves in a very precarious position,” he revealed after taking a deep breath.
“What do you mean by that?” Yuan immediately became attentive, his expression growing serious.
The atmosphere in the room shifted at once, and a heavy tension filled the air. Yuan waited for Rhex to explain everything, sensing that whatever he was about to say would not be good news at all.
