My Celestial Ascension - Chapter 936 - 936: Isolde's Fiancè?

Every nation on the Demonic Continent began preparing to resist the invasion of the undead. Every city was gradually transformed into a fortress meant to stop the undead from harming the people.
The towering city walls became the final line of defense against the undead, and warriors constantly patrolled them day and night.
Villages were abandoned within a single night. As soon as the people learned about the imminent danger, panic spread everywhere, and they rushed toward the cities seeking shelter, leaving their homes behind simply to survive.
Soldiers moved outside the cities to gather everything necessary to survive the coming catastrophe. They traveled from village to village collecting supplies and also hunted wild monsters to secure food.
No one knew how long the war would last, so all the nations began gathering as much food as possible in preparation.
After all, they needed to feed tens of thousands of soldiers and citizens every single day. With such enormous numbers, the demand for food was massive if they hoped to sustain themselves for a prolonged war.
The Demon Empire also sent thousands of soldiers into the mountains to hunt. The Demon Emperor himself issued an Imperial Decree ordering the hunting of edible monsters.
With this decree, many local hunters joined the soldiers in hunting monsters, bringing countless beast carcasses back into the city as a vital source of food.
When Yuan, Nerith, and Isolde arrived at the palace, they immediately noticed that everyone was extremely busy. Soldiers were constantly entering and leaving the palace, while servants hurried back and forth carrying supplies.
“Where is my brother?” Nerith stopped one of the servants and asked, her voice cold and commanding.
“His Majesty is in his study room. He ordered everyone not to disturb him while he is working on something important.” The servant quickly replied with a trembling voice, his fear clearly visible.
“I see… You may go and continue your work.” Nerith said before leading Yuan and Isolde inside the palace.
A few moments later, they arrived at the Emperor’s study, where two guards were stationed outside the door.
Nerith ignored their presence and pushed the door open. The two guards didn’t even dare attempt to stop her, knowing very well how frightening Nerith’s temper could be.
After all, even the Emperor himself had to yield to her because of her overwhelming strength and fierce personality. If the Emperor himself could not control her, how could mere guards dare to stop her from entering?
Inside the room, Emperor Rhex was seated behind his desk, and a massive pile of paperwork was scattered across the surface.
Two servants were busy organizing the documents, both looking utterly exhausted with dark circles beneath their eyes.
“You look terrible, Brother,” Nerith said as she observed the condition of her older brother, disappointment clearly visible in her eyes.
“As you can see, I’ve been tied to this place ever since you left the palace. I haven’t even slept properly for several days… It’s starting to take a toll on me…” Emperor Rhex replied with a weak smile as he raised his head to look at his younger sister.
“You’re a man and yet you can’t handle a little bit of pressure. Truly pathetic.” Instead of comforting him, Nerith sneered with a disappointed expression.
“In that case, why don’t you try doing it yourself? Once you try it, you’ll understand how difficult this work actually is.” Emperor Rhex retorted, gritting his teeth in frustration.
“This type of work doesn’t suit me.”
“Hmph! Since you can’t do it, then don’t mock me. I’m doing my best to keep everything in order before we march to the border.”
Rhex then asked, “How did your trip go? Did you succeed in forming an alliance with the other nations?”
“Everything went smoothly. All the nations agreed to defend the border without hesitation. In fact, their forces should arrive here within two days.” Nerith replied proudly with a satisfied smile.
Turning toward Isolde, Nerith revealed a wide grin and said, “Aside from that, Vampire Countess Isolde has come with us.”
Upon hearing this, Emperor Rhex immediately turned his gaze toward the woman standing beside Yuan, and a surprised expression appeared on his face.
‘T-This is indeed Countess Isolde from the Vampire Kingdom… and her strength is even greater than the Vampire King himself!!’ He cried inwardly as he immediately recognized her appearance. There was no way he could mistake her for someone else.
Just like Nerith, Isolde was also extremely famous throughout the entire Demonic Continent because of her unparalleled strength and reputation.
No one could rival her power, and everyone who trained under her eventually became an exceptional individual. However, not everyone could endure her training methods.
Her methods were known to be the most brutal and painful forms of training. Even vampires with their powerful regenerative abilities struggled to withstand her hellish regime.
Now that she had personally arrived to help, Rhex felt a wave of relief wash over him, as though a heavy burden had finally been lifted from his shoulders.
“Countess Isolde, please forgive me for not recognizing you earlier. It was rude of me to display such disappointment in front of you.” Emperor Rhex quickly apologized.
“It’s fine. I don’t mind it at all. You have a duty to fulfill, and I can understand that very well.” Isolde replied, her expression remaining calm and composed.
“Please allow me to escort you to the sitting area personally as an apology.” Emperor Rhex offered as he stood up from his desk, though his body felt unusually heavy from exhaustion.
“There is no need. You still have unfinished work,” Isolde responded calmly. “You should focus on your duties. A catastrophe is approaching, and there is no room for idle conversation.”
“Princess Nerith and my beloved here can keep me company, so there is no need for you to worry about me.” Isolde said before leaving the room with Yuan and Nerith beside her, leaving Emperor Rhex completely stunned.
After they left the room, Rhex slowly sat back down in his chair with a dumbfounded expression, as though he had just witnessed something impossible.
“D-Did she just say Yuan is her beloved?? How is that even possible??” He muttered to himself in disbelief.
Countess Isolde was someone who would never lower herself to fall in love with a human. With her position as the Countess of the Vampire Kingdom, she could have easily chosen countless powerful men as her partner.
And yet she had called a human—someone she barely knew—her beloved. Just what kind of charm had Yuan used on her to make her fall so deeply? What exactly had the Countess seen in him?
Countless questions filled Rhex’s mind, leaving him even more puzzled than before.
“Forget it… That man is quite the lady killer with his appearance alone, and he’s also clearly a womanizer. It’s not surprising for a thousand-year-old maiden to fall for him.” Rhex muttered with a heavy sigh before returning to his work.
There were far too many matters to worry about, and he did not have the luxury of dwelling on other people’s relationships.
Meanwhile, Yuan and the others entered the guest room, and Yuan immediately locked the door behind them, causing Nerith and Isolde to blush.
‘Does he plan to make us his women now? But it’s still daytime!!’ Both Nerith and Isolde screamed inwardly, their faces flushing deeply.
Their hearts began pounding in their chests like drums. Their cheeks turned crimson, and they looked extremely nervous, unsure of what to do next.
“Umm… Yuan, don’t you think we’re moving a little too fast?” Nerith gathered her courage and spoke, her voice low and timid due to her nervousness.
‘I’m so nervous right now!!’ Isolde screamed inwardly as she looked at Yuan.
However, Yuan simply looked at them with a puzzled expression. He had no idea why Nerith and Isolde were suddenly acting so flustered.
“What are you talking about? I’m going to open the passage to the Secret Realm here. I closed the door so no one could see what’s happening inside.” Yuan said with a completely dumbfounded look on his face.
