Chapter 168: The Glowing Chamber
Thin streams of vapor seeped out from narrow cracks along the walls, curling into the air like restless spirits.
There were hundreda of triangular holes lining the walls, the ceiling and even parts of the floor.
Each one looked deep like something could emerge from them at any moment.
West stopped in the center of the chamber and his gaze moved slowly, analyzing the surroundings.
It wasn’t just a resting area… it felt like a nest.
He craned his neck slightly, looking higher and then he spotted something hanging from above.
A massive shape suspended from the ceiling by a thick, mucous-like strand.
West’s eyes narrowed slightly taken aback. The creature was enormous.
It was at least twenty feet long with a upper body that resembled a grotesquely overgrown gorilla. Its muscles bulged unnaturally beneath dark, armored skin but below was a far more disturbing lower body…
Connected to its torso was multiple long spiky spider-like legs. They extended outward, folding tightly inward as it hung dormant.
From its back, a pair of large, membranous wings rested, twitching faintly even in its stillness.
Its head was tilted slightly downward and all of its eight eyes were closed as it breathed slowly.
It was asleep.
West stared at it for a moment before exhaling lightly.
’Better to kill it now.’
His hand moved as he pulled something out of his inventory.
What appeared in his grasp was a massive black blade, far too large for a normal person to wield comfortably.
Dark mist seeped from its surface like a living thing as the air around it seemed to distort slightly.
West gripped it firmly and without hesitation, he swung.
A powerful arc of darkness tore through the air, cutting upward toward the suspended creature.
However, the moment the blade moved, the creature’s eyes suddenly sprung open.
Its entire body reacted instantly as the mucous strand attached to it snapped.
It dropped from the air rapidly…
WHOOSH—!
Evading the attack by mere inches.
The dark arc sliced through empty air and slammed into the ceiling, leaving a rough scar across the stone.
The creature landed with a heavy BOOM, cracking the ground beneath it.
Up close, it was even more terrifying, large and grotesque.
Its multiple eyes locked onto West as it moved swiftly.
The wings on its back flapped together violently.
THOOM—!
A silver wave of energy blasted forward, tearing through the air like a compressed shockwave.
West’s eyes narrowed.
“Radiant Acceleration.”

His body ignited as a sun-like glow erupted around him, bursting outward and skyrocketing his speed.
The wave passed through where he stood a fraction of a second earlier as he vanished, slamming into the wall behind him and detonating in a violent explosion.
West reappeared to the side… in motion.
He spun and in an instant, he was beside the creature swing the massive dark sword towards its legs.
CLANG—!
At the last moment, a strange crystallized coating formed over the creature’s limbs.
The moment the blade struck, it shattered through the crystal but slowed significantly due to weakened momentum.
Unfortunately, West was only able to deal a very shallow damage due to the crystallized coating.
The creature let out a deep growl that vibrated through the chamber.
Its massive arm rose and came crashing down.
West leapt back instantly as the fist slammed into the ground.
BOOM—!
The stone beneath shattered, causing cracks to spread outward in all directions.
West flipped mid-air and landed lightly over twenty feet away but the creature didn’t pause.
It charged at him with astonishing speed, swinging its fists wildly.
West swerved, zig-zagging across the terrain as he evaded the attacks which slammed into the ground and even walls, shattering them in the process.
He stepped in again after evading another attack, swinging at the creature’s legs.
The crystal formed again and shattered after impact, causing West to deal minimal damage.
“Tch.”
The creature flapped its wings again.
THOOM—!
This time, West was a fraction too late and the silver wave struck him directly.
BOOM—!
His body was blasted backward as the force sent him flying across the chamber.
The Guardian Sword slipped from his grip mid-air as West flipped repeatedly—
He suddenly stabilized in the air before slamming his feet against the far wall and arching upon it.
CRACK—!
The stone dented under the impact as he instantly pushed off, launching himself forward again with his feet.
BOOM—!
The creature massive fist swung again as West’s figure shot across the air towards it.
West on the other hand, didn’t try to evade… instead, he swung back.
BOOOOOOM—!
Their fists collided and the impact exploded outward.
A shockwave rippled through the chamber causing the creature stagger three steps back while West landed smoothly.
Their eyes locked as he moved again, sweeping straight for his sword.
He grabbed it mid-run and turned before charging towards the creature again.
The creature steadied itself while its multiple eyes fell onto its fist tuat had clashed with West’s… its gorilla like fingers had twisted in strange directions and was bleeding.
It screeched in agony and suddenly opened its mouth…
Twwwhooommm~ Twwwhooommm~ Twwwhooommm~ Twwwhooommm~
Greenish, viscous webs shot outward rapidly as West approached.
West’s eyes sharpened as he dodged them one after the other.
But the webs kept coming faster until there was no space left to evade.
West’s grip tightened as he swung.
SHHHHK—!
The blade cut through the webs, slicing them apart mid-air.
He burst through them and closed the distance between him and the creature almost instantaneously.
Now he was right in front of it once again, swinging towards its legs.
Once again, crystal coating spread across its legs, creating a layer of protection.
However, this time, something was different.
A faint purple mist began to wrap around the blade.
“Poison Mist.”

West had used an ability he got from Seraphyra to make the blade even more deadly.
He swung with all his might and as soon as contact was made…

The crystal shattered completely like glass hit by a hammer and without slowing, the blade tore straight through the leg… and kept going.
In one unstoppable swing, West severed four legs causing the creature to scream as its body tilted violently.
Blood erupted outward in thick streams while it collapsed to the side.
In the process of collapsing, West stepped forward, leapt and drove the blade upward with everything he had.
The massive black blade pierced through the creature’s skull… ripping through flesh, bones and armor before bursting out the other side and splitting its head cleanly in two.
