My Cuckhold System - Chapter 242: You Nearly Killed Nightingale?

~ Five Days Later ~
The Shadow Reapers base was finally done.
Gone was the half-finished construction site that once struggled against interference and sabotage.
In its place rose a structure that looked like it belonged in a different era entirely.
The main building stretched upward with dark metallic panels that absorbed light, giving it an almost ominous presence even in daylight. Neon-lined edges traced the architecture in subtle crimson lines.
At the entrance stood massive reinforced gates, etched with the insignia of the Shadow Reapers which was a stylized reaper silhouette emerging from shadow, blades curved like crescent moons.
Security systems were embedded everywhere ranging from hidden turrets to energy detection grids and biometric locks.
Even the air around the base felt… monitored.
Inside, the scale only grew more impressive.
A large courtyard opened up beyond the gates, paved with smooth black stone that reflected the glow of overhead lights.
Training zones were sectioned off across different areas; combat rings, ability-testing chambers, even simulated environments designed to replicate ruin conditions.
To the right was a tall structure with multiple floors. This was living quarters with apartments designed for future members.
To the left was the command building…
It was a multi-level structure filled with control rooms, data centers, financial hubs, and strategy spaces. Screens lined the walls, displaying live feeds, financial flows, and operational metrics all overseen by systems Aria had meticulously designed.
Further in, a specialized wing contained storage vaults, reinforced and designed to house artifacts, weapons, and high-value ruin materials. Each vault required multiple layers of authentication, ensuring that nothing within could be taken without explicit authorization.
And beneath it all… was a hidden level, accessible only by West and a select few.
This underground space was where experimental tech, rare resources, and… future plans would take shape.
The entire base radiated proper structure. West had spent millions upon millions of dollars developing it. Although, it was lacking in comparison to large gangs bases like Dragon Fang Gang, this was still really carefully thought out for a newly starting gang.
—
West stood at the highest balcony of the command building, overlooking everything.
His hands rested casually in his pockets as he observed the activity below.
Workers finalizing details, systems being tested and security checks running.
Behind him, Aria approached quietly.
“It’s done,” she said softly.
West didn’t turn immediately. “…Better than I imagined.”
Aria smiled faintly. “You had the vision. I just made it real.”
He glanced at her briefly. “You did more than that.”
“You built the foundation.”
Aria’s expression softened, but before she could respond, the air changed as a presence arrived.
West’s gaze lifted slightly toward the entrance.
“…She’s here.”
Moments later, the massive gates opened and through them walked a figure who commanded attention without effort.
She moved with authority in an elegant form fitting attire adorned with subtle Dragon Fang insignias that marked her status without needing to shout it.
Zu Li’s eyes scanned the base as she walked in, assessing everything.
By the time she reached the central courtyard, West was already descending the steps to meet her.
They stopped a few feet apart as a brief silence ensued between them.
Zu Li folded her arms. “…You’ve been busy.”
West smirked. “You noticed.”
She glanced around again with a sharp gaze before stepping closer. “You’re growing faster than I expected.”
West shrugged lightly. “I had good motivation.”
Zu Li exhaled softly before turning her attention back to the base.
“…You’re going to shake things up.”
West leaned slightly against the railing beside them. “That’s the plan.”
She looked at him again, maintaining eye contact for longer this time. “…Just make sure you’re ready for what comes after.”
West’s smile didn’t fade. “I always am.”
…
Minutes later, West stood with Zu Li on one of the upper observation terraces where the city stretched endlessly beyond them.
Far below, vehicles moved like streams of light as a cold breeze rolled across the balcony.
Zu Li folded her arms and said, almost too casually, “You nearly killed Nightingale?”
West scratched the back of his neck. “…Uh.”
“Yeah,” he added with a shrug. “I figured out her name later… on the plane.”
“Who is she exactly?” West questioned while turning towards her.
Zu Li gave him a long look like she was deciding how much information to share.
“Nightingale is… not ordinary,” she sighed.
West leaned on the railing. “Clearly.”
“She’s one of the more infamous awakened assassins.”
West straightened a little. “Assassin?”
Zu Li nodded. “Some awakeners don’t join gangs.”
“They become independent contractors.”
“Weapons for hire.”
“The ones with the deepest pockets send them on whatever mission they desire.”
West frowned thoughtfully. “…I may have dealt with someone like that recently.”
Zu Li’s eyes narrowed with curiosity but surprisingly, she didn’t pry.
“But Nightingale is different.”
“She doesn’t accept just any contract.”
West glanced over. “Oh?”
Zu Li nodded. “She has… principles. Weirdly enough… she only takes assignments she believes serve some righteous cause.”
West barked a small laugh. “An assassin with morals.”
“Strange world.”
Zu Li almost smiled. “Based on what Frankincense fed her…”
“She believed Debra and Amos were a threat to social balance.”
West’s nose wrinkled. “Figures.”
“That explains why she didn’t seem like she really wanted to fight me.”
He remembered her hesitation, warnings and strange obsession with “fate.”
It made more sense…
Zu Li studied West with a strange look. “But how did you beat her?”
West looked at her as though she was asking a dumb question.
Zu Li shook her head. “I’m serious.”
“She has been Tier One for years.”
“She’s practically brushing against Tier Two.”
Her eyes narrowed. “You’ve been awakened…”
“What…? Less than five months?”
West smirked. “Oh well.”
He spread his hands. “I do have three branches.”
Zu Li stared at him before laughing with an incredulous look.
“You…” she shook her head. “…are going to grow into a monster.”
West grinned. “I’ll take that as praise.”
“It wasn’t.”
They both chuckled.
For a brief second, there was silence… until West’s expression turned serious.
“Is it settled now?”
Zu Li understood immediately. “Debra and Amos?”
