Chapter 100: Chapter 70: Do You Prefer a Nun or a Succubus?
“What’s so hard about that?”
“Wow, you’re so amazing, Chen Yuan~”
“Act normal, you’re creeping me out.”
Seeing him covered in goosebumps, Jiang Yao giggled into her hand.
They walked on for a bit, putting some distance between them and the photo spot. Chen Yuan then leaned in and asked quietly, “Isn’t that girl cold, wearing so little?”
“You mean the girl cosplaying Asuna? She’s probably fine. It’s not that cold,” Jiang Yao said with a shrug, as if it were perfectly normal.
“Have you been to many conventions before?”
“Not really. I’ve only started coming recently, mostly with Wan.”
“So… have you ever cosplayed?”
Chen Yuan hadn’t intended to ask, but his curiosity got the better of him. He finally voiced the question, his expression casual, though his slightly hesitant tone revealed his uncertainty about whether it was appropriate.
Jiang Yao looked up, blinking as she studied him for a few seconds. Then, she smiled and said softly, “No, I haven’t. I don’t like the feeling of being stared at by a crowd of guys.”
“Oh, I see.” Chen Yuan breathed a long sigh of relief.
“I only like it when you look at me…” she whispered conspiratorially, gently poking his shirt.
“Mm.”
“In the past and in the future, you’re the only one who gets to look…”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“That’s why I’m so bundled up today. Not showing any skin at all.”
Chen Yuan looked at the shyly blushing Jiang Yao and pressed his lips together. He took out his phone, opened their chat, and quickly typed two words, his expression returning to normal.
The phone in her bag buzzed. Jiang Yao felt it and pulled it out, only to see a message from Chen Yuan.
A hint of surprise appeared in her eyes. She tapped the message open to read it.
Then, Jiang Yao’s lips curved into a small pout, which quickly blossomed into an incredibly girlish smile. Her earlobes grew faintly hot.
…
I love you too (pout)
She typed out the words and hit send.
…
They reached the center of the convention and took the escalator up to the second floor.
It was just as crowded, with people pushing and squeezing past each other in a chaotic scene.
The only difference from the first floor was that the second had no exhibition halls. It was mostly filled with professional cosplayers, people holding autograph signings, and massive lines of fans waiting for merchandise.
From a distance, a girl popped up from the crowd, waving her hand excitedly and shouting. Unfortunately, she was surrounded by several tall guys who blocked the view, so it was as if she hadn’t jumped at all.
“Yaoyao!”
Jiang Yao heard the shout and turned to look for the source. She scanned the area but couldn’t spot anyone. She recognized the voice, though—it was clearly Wan.
“Yaoyao, I’m over here…”
Wan pushed person after person aside, murmuring soft apologies as she squeezed her way through the gaps in the crowd. Her trembling, petite frame made one worry she might get trampled to death—a scenario in which Jiang Yao could only fall to her knees and wail, “This isn’t my Wan! My Wan isn’t this flat!”
She darted up to Jiang Yao, out of breath, and threw her arms around her in an excited, solid bear hug.
“I’ve been chasing you for ages! You two walk way too fast!”
“We were looking for you, that’s why we were practically jogging,” Jiang Yao said, taking Wan’s hand affectionately. The two chattered excitedly for a moment, oblivious to everyone around them, before Jiang Yao finally turned back to Chen Yuan. “This is my best friend, Wan.”
“Hello.”
“Hiii, Chen! I’ve heard Yaoyao talk about you so many times. I thought she was exaggerating, but now that I see you, you really are kinda handsome.”
Wan wasn’t shy in the slightest, likely because of her close friendship with Jiang Yao. She walked a full circle around Chen Yuan, her eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and scrutiny.
“You’re very cute too, Wan.”
“Hey!? Is ’cute’ the only thing you can say because there’s nothing else to praise? *Sobs*… Girls with small boobs are only ever called ’cute.’”
“Don’t be a weirdo, my boyfriend doesn’t get all the otaku stuff,” Jiang Yao said, completely exasperated.
“Damn, so he’s a normie,” Wan said, narrowing her eyes as she studied Chen Yuan. She whispered, “Still, Yaoyao, I’m so jealous. You have such a handsome boyfriend, and a beautiful older sister—”
The next second!
Before she could finish, a raw nerve was struck in Jiang Yao. Without waiting for Wan to say another word, she lunged forward and clamped a hand over her friend’s mouth, pressing down hard.
“Mmmph—mgh!” Wan struggled weakly, her hands flailing.
“What… sister?” Chen Yuan asked, his brow furrowing.
Jiang Yao’s pupils shrank.
