- Chapter 319 - 215: What a Coincidence, Li Bing Meets Jiangg Yao

“Is he gone?”
Jiangg Yao pushed the door open and peeked through the crack into the living room.
“He left. He probably went to that company where he’s working part-time.”
Jiangg Ning reached out, pulled her younger sister out of the other bedroom, and told her she didn’t have to hide anymore.
The two identical sisters, with nearly indistinguishable figures, stood together, looking at each other. This… this was the truly cruel truth. Chen Yuan had never considered such a possibility. Or rather, he could never have predicted his relationship would take such a bizarre turn.
It was impossible to imagine the look on his face when he found out.
It all started with that sinful online romance. By the time summer arrived after the coming spring, it would have been a full year. Until recently, Chen Yuan felt he was living a carefree and happy university life. Not only did he have a group of fun, lackadaisical roommates and an easy academic load, but he also had an unrivaled prize—a girlfriend everyone envied.
Of course, that last part was the most important.
But when one girlfriend becomes two, it’s no longer a sweet love story. It’s a horror story.
At least, for him.
Chen Yuan had always dreamed of having a pure relationship like his adoptive parents. He had no idea that he’d been passively trapped in a love triangle from the very beginning. Now he was in deeper than ever. Aside from not having had sex, they had done everything else—and he had done it with two different people.
This was a dual betrayal of his ideal of pure love, both physical and spiritual. He had not only betrayed his own heart but had also offered his body to two flippant devils.
Just take the kissing, for example. The two sisters kissed him every day as if to get back at each other, seemingly using his mouth as a scoreboard. If the scores could be physically displayed, then with every kiss on the sofa, a “+1” would probably appear above both Ningning’s and Yaoyao’s heads.
At this moment, Jiangg Ning and Jiangg Yao still didn’t understand just how much damage they had inflicted on Chen Yuan, a man who sought pure love.
“I’ll be back this afternoon. If you bring the ’little young master’ back with you, I’ll just eat out.”
“You’re not streaming?”
“Took the day off. A three o’clock start is already late, so I figured I’d just take a break. Besides, it’s Wan’s birthday the day after tomorrow, so I’m going to pick out a gift for her.”
“It’s her birthday?” Something suddenly occurred to Jiangg Ning. “Get a gift from me, too. I’ve been meaning to thank her and treat her to a meal, but we never got the chance. This is a perfect opportunity to thank her properly.”
“No need.”
“Just listen to me. We need to observe the proper courtesies.”
“Fine, whatever,” Jiangg Yao said with a shrug, holding out her hand. “Money.”
“Don’t you have money? You’ve earned plenty from streaming.”
“My money… that’s my savings for my future life with the ’little young master’. I can’t just spend it carelessly. Besides, you’re the rich one. If I don’t spend your money, whose should I spend?” Jiangg Yao said, full of self-righteous confidence.
And it was true. Jiangg Ning was exceptionally wealthy. The money Yaoyao earned was like a single hair on a herd of nine oxen compared to what her sister had. Although Jiangg Ruxue’s character wasn’t the best, she was very committed to the idea of raising her daughters in luxury, giving both sisters a huge allowance every month. Ever since Jiangg Ning started studying abroad, she had saved all her annual scholarships. She also had some personal investments that had seen decent returns, not to mention her salary from being a university professor.
A rough estimate would put her bank account in the seven figures.
“Didn’t I just give you spending money last month?”
“Don’t be so stingy, sis. You’re the one who said we need to observe proper courtesies. I can’t just give her something shabby.”
Jiangg Yao took her sister’s hand and whined pitifully.
She was wearing a plain white T-shirt and shorts, and Ningning was dressed identically. Standing together, they were truly indistinguishable. If Yaoyao didn’t intentionally affect a cutesier tone, even their voices would probably be ninety-nine percent similar.
…
Normally, the best place to hide would be at home, but Chen Yuan felt he wouldn’t be able to avoid being disturbed there. He didn’t know how to face Jiangg right now.
Knowing he had been deceived, being around her now gave him a strange, unsettling feeling.
’It would be best to be alone for a while.’
Just like when he was a kid, if he bombed a test or was scolded by his mom until he cried, Chen Yuan would run off to a small creek and sit by himself on a bridge pier.
He would watch the water rush under the arch of the bridge, picking up small pebbles one by one and tossing them in.
All he needed was to maintain this state of being undisturbed, to shut all his worries out in another world.
He chose to come to the company because the top-floor office was quiet. Hardly anyone ever came up here. If anyone did, it was only Pei Youwen. With him, Chen Yuan could be as perfunctory as he liked; the other man didn’t care anyway, which made their interactions quite comfortable.
Chen Yuan held a pen, sat in the luxurious office chair, and casually tore a few pages from a notebook, writing something down.
There were so many things he wanted to say to Jiangg.
He worried that if they were face-to-face, he wouldn’t be able to express himself completely—not his confusion, not his thoughts, none of it. After finally finding such a sweet romance, Chen Yuan didn’t want to ruin everything just because of this one deception.
He wanted to ask why she had told this lie.
He wanted to say that they could have discussed many things and solved problems together. They were both adults; he wouldn’t throw childish tantrums anymore and would do his best to understand her difficulties.
He wanted to say that he could feel their mutual affection, but that everyone feels things differently and is in a different situation. Even as a couple, it’s impossible to completely put yourself in the other’s shoes and share their burdens.
