Chapter 58: Chapter 52: Damn Green Tea, Take This
’No! I have to look!’
’The worst that can happen is Chen Yuan comes out, and I’ll just confess. Even if he gets mad, I have to figure out what this green tea girl’s deal is.’
Jiangg Yao snatched the phone from the coffee table. With a solemn expression, she began scrolling meticulously, unwilling to miss a single detail.
She first checked the chat history, finishing in just a few seconds.
She felt greatly relieved.
But from the chat, it seemed they had only been in contact for about a week, and they mostly discussed student council matters. Liu Tingyue was the proactive one in her messages, while Chen Yuan’s replies were cold and strictly professional.
’Not bad. He’s a model of fidelity.’
Jiangg Yao then went through all of Liu Tingyue’s social media posts. The more she read, the more her brow furrowed. To put it nicely, the captions with her photos were expressions of her feelings. To put it bluntly, they were suggestive and meant to bait guys.
Things like, “The one I’m meant to wait for will eventually come,” “But you’re not me, you don’t know how much I can’t let go of, hidden behind my acceptance,” and “I’m covered in scars, I don’t dare hope for someone to save me from this sea of suffering…”
’Oh, great! We’re talking about ’acceptance’ now, are we?’
Jiangg Yao desperately wanted to reply on Chen Yuan’s behalf. It took all her willpower to restrain herself, and she was already grinding her teeth in frustration.
Interestingly, while Jiangg Yao and Jiangg Ning had never seen eye-to-eye on matters concerning Chen Yuan, their attitude toward Liu Tingyue was surprisingly in sync.
Men hated this type of girl, and women were no exception. A girl who strings guys along is the same as a heartless animal who leads people on only to abandon them.
With this kind of person, no matter how good you are to them or how much you genuinely invest, it’s all for nothing. One day, they might just hit you with: “Thank you so much. I’ve decided to promote you to backup boyfriend status. You’ll enjoy the benefits of a Deputy Director of Fish Pond Management, upgraded from ’chat only’ to ’visible on my social media feed.’”
Right now, what Jiangg Yao wanted most was to vent with a “Who can relate?!”
…
Chen Yuan felt refreshed all over, steam still rising from his body. He walked out of the bathroom, drying his face.
But as soon as he entered the living room, he noticed that the aura around Jiangg Yao was completely off. The way she sat with her legs crossed and a cold look on her face, it was obvious at a glance that she was unhappy.
Just ten-some minutes ago, she had been biting her lip and acting cute. But now, she inexplicably gave off the vibe of a teacher summoning a student to their office…
“I, um, I just looked at your phone,” she said earnestly. “It was wrong of me to do it without your permission… I didn’t mean to. It was just sitting here, the screen was on, and a message came in, so I glanced at it.”
“You can look if you want. There aren’t any secrets on my phone. As long as you don’t check my browser history, I don’t care.”
“So, who’s Liu Tingyue?” she asked suddenly, her eyes crinkling into a curious smile.
“Oh, she’s a senior from my high school. She’s also at Lanjing University and is in the student council now. I just joined the student council a while ago, and she’s the one who got me in.”
Jiangg Yao nodded. No problems there. She pursed her lips, propped her chin on her hand with her elbow resting on her knee, and said softly, “She’s pretty good-looking, huh.”
“Huh? She’s average…” Chen Yuan sensed something was wrong and offered a rare sweet-talk. “Not as good-looking as you.”
“Now that you mention it, that’s true.”
“What did she send? Let me see.”
Chen Yuan checked his phone and finally understood why Jiangg Yao was suddenly upset.
’Damn it! What’s with this Liu Tingyue? Sending me messages when she has nothing better to do. We’re not even that close, doesn’t she think it’s weird?’
Chen Yuan couldn’t help but facepalm and sigh. He quickly typed out a reply:
“I don’t know anything about eyeliner, and I haven’t watched the video, but my girlfriend is a little angry.”
“Senior, I’m going to go console her now. You can get back to what you were doing.”
“You replied?” Jiangg Yao blinked, noticing him tapping on the screen.
“It would be rude not to. Of course I had to reply.”
Chen Yuan slipped the phone into his pocket, shrugged, and went back to drying his hair, acting as if it were no big deal.
Jiangg Yao almost blurted out, “Let me see what you replied,” but she swallowed the words as soon as they left her lips. ’It’s just a normal social interaction. There’s no need to be so tense…’ So, she held her breath, crossed her arms, and tried her best to calm down.
This process lasted a mere five minutes.
Jiangg Yao shot up from her seat as if she was about to suffocate from holding her breath. She slipped on her slippers, zipped over to Chen Yuan, and her hand went straight for his pocket.
“What did you reply? Let me see… C’mon, let me see.”
“It was a perfectly normal reply. Nothing to see.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you, my little young master. I know you can handle this, but I’m just so curious—”
“Wait, don’t tell me… you’re jealous?” Chen Yuan looked down at her, feigning a puzzled expression. He had seen from the very beginning that she was jealous, and he suddenly found the sight of her sitting there, stewing in her anger, incredibly amusing.
He had also seen her squirming, wanting to see the message, her expression a mix of conflict and desire.
“I!” Jiangg Yao clenched her little fists, her face quickly growing hot. ’He’s not going to think I’m petty for getting jealous over something so small, is he?’ She took a deep breath, then shook her head firmly and held out her hand. “Fine, I admit it, I’m jealous. Just let me take one look, okay…?”
“You really want to see?”
“I do… Ugh, I’m begging you, please? Otherwise, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
Chen Yuan suddenly felt that hearing Jiangg Yao act cute was a true pleasure. Having achieved his goal, he stopped hiding the phone and took it out.
“Take it and look for yourself.”
Jiangg Yao snatched it away, her eyes instantly brightening.
If he didn’t let her look any longer, the little kitten was going to scratch her heart’s window to pieces.
As it happened, not even half a second after she finished reading, Liu Tingyue actually sent another message!
