Chapter 89: Chapter 64: Why Do You Have More Forms Than a Digimon?
An eighteen-year-old guy is inevitably brimming with energy, something he has no control over. While scrolling through short videos, Chen Yuan had heard that you might experience “date syndrome” when you’re out with your girlfriend.
He had experienced it twice before, when cuddling up to Jiangg Yao.
At times like these, it was usually impossible to think; it felt like your brain had been taken over by something strange.
Just as he was using every ounce of his willpower to look away, at that very moment… Jiangg Ning suddenly stood up and sat down right next to him.
They were inches apart. A fragrant breeze washed over him, carrying the faint scent of gardenia. ’It must be perfume,’ he thought. ’No girl could naturally smell this fresh and sweet.’ If he could, Chen Yuan wanted to press against her skin and inhale the scent.
However, he had a hunch that saying something like that out loud would earn him a scolding from Jiangg Ning, something along the lines of, “Do you think it’s appropriate to say that to your teacher?” or “I’ll let you smell. Go on, I dare you.”
’He probably wouldn’t dare.’
He was also afraid of losing control. He clenched his fists, imagining himself saying in a rush of blood to the head, “My apologies, Jiangg.”
What would happen next would clearly be a scene that couldn’t be broadcast.
“Actually, I have a question for you, although it might be inappropriate to ask.” Jiangg Ning’s voice was barely a whisper, full of hesitation. She felt bad before the words were even out.
“What is it?” Chen Yuan scooted over, raising his leg to hide his obvious reaction.
If Jiangg Ning looked down and saw, he didn’t dare to imagine the scene.
“What’s your relationship with that head of the Arts Department… Liu Tingyue?” Jiangg Ning’s large eyes blinked. Despite her solemn tone, the question she asked was enough to make him laugh in disbelief.
’She’s actually getting jealous over a little thing like this.’
’Whether it was Jiangg Yao or Jiangg Ning, they were both equally possessive. Maybe all girls are like this.’
’Getting jealous just means they care.’
Jiangg Ning lightly bit her lip. Her face was exquisite, and her voice had a magnetic quality to it—the kind perfect for training a puppy, not that she had any such hobbies.
“We’re not close. I don’t really like her.” He could feel her fragrant breath on his face.
As Chen Yuan said this, his gaze dropped for just a single glance.
His eyeballs nearly shot out of their sockets.
The distance between them was verging on criminal. He was about four inches taller than Jiangg Ning, and since she was sitting, she didn’t have the extra height from her heels.
’He had a completely unobstructed view.’
’He wondered if Jiangg Ning realized this or not.’
Chen Yuan felt that if this continued for a few more minutes, he would explode. He was already feeling hot all over and quickly took a few sips of herbal tea to cool down.
“That’s good. By the way, she’s quite pretty, and it seems like she has a thing for you…” Jiangg Ning coughed lightly, feigning nonchalance as she added coolly, “You’re aware of that, right?”
“I can sense it, but I don’t think she’s pretty.”
Chen Yuan thought hard, replaying every interaction he’d had with his senior, Liu Tingyue. The tone of that “green tea” seemed to echo in his ears.
Miraculously…
He calmed down. His agitation vanished.
“Not pretty,” Chen Yuan nodded with absolute certainty.
“Hm… maybe she’s just not your type.” Jiangg Ning gently gripped the soft cushion on the wooden chair, her heart leaping with a little joy. She habitually crossed her legs, and as she did, her high heel naturally slipped off, revealing a fair, delicate foot.
The high heel dangled, swaying back and forth.
“Someone like you, though, is what I’d call pretty.”
“Me?”
“Yes.”
“Then take a good look,” Jiangg Ning paused for a few seconds before suddenly saying, “Student Chen Yuan, I’m going to have to put my sweater back on in a bit. It’s getting a little cold.”
’The contrast!!!’
’There it is!’
Chen Yuan’s mind suddenly cleared. This softer tone completely matched the persona she deliberately put on during their previous phone call.
It wasn’t being coquettish or trying to act cute.
It was saying blush-inducing things in the most deadpan voice!
Chen Yuan stared at Jiangg Ning with a look of utter shock. In just one short month of knowing her, he had discovered at least four different versions of his girlfriend, which was wilder than a Digimon evolution.
His previous suspicion that Jiangg Ning had a split personality completely vanished.
Because even a person with a split personality couldn’t possibly have four of them.
“You should probably put it back on.”
“Okay.”
A smile in her beautiful eyes, Jiangg Ning sat back in her own seat. She suddenly felt so happy, finally rediscovering the feeling she had when they were dating online, where every moment they spent together held the potential to make her heart race.
“I… I’m going to the restroom.”
Chen Yuan couldn’t take it anymore. He fled in disarray, rushing toward the bathroom.
He probably needed to splash his face a few times with ice-cold water; otherwise, he felt like he might ruin a pair of boxers.
Watching Chen Yuan’s retreating back, Jiangg Ning found it hilarious. Who walks all hunched over like that? Her face flushed red at the same time. A twenty-six-year-old woman knows about these things.
She had already noticed earlier, but it wasn’t the kind of thing you could bring up.
She quickly put on her black sweater, her mind filled with her own bold actions over the past ten-odd minutes. After calming down a little, Jiangg Ning found the experience incredibly thrilling.
It felt like she had released all her pent-up stress.
And, thinking back on it, the memory was something to be savored.
The fatigue from the whole day vanished.
She was starting to see Chen Yuan’s adorable side. He had absolutely no trace of sleaziness, unlike all the other men she had met over the years.
Anyone else would have been eager to take advantage of the situation and make a move.
But Chen Yuan had told her to cover up quickly.
At this thought, the corners of Jiangg Ning’s lips naturally curved into a smile, and her gaze gradually softened. She took her phone out of her bag, unlocked it, and began typing nimbly.
She was about to tell her sister the good news.
BUZZ—
BUZZ—
On the table, across from Jiangg Ning, another phone’s screen lit up.
She glanced up and saw that someone was calling Chen Yuan.
She glanced at the contact name: Liu Nan.
Jiangg Ning thought for a moment. The name didn’t ring a bell. It sounded like a boy’s name; probably one of Chen Yuan’s friends.
She didn’t answer, waiting for him to come back.
However, after Jiangg Ning had been chatting with her sister for quite a while, having shared all her happy news, the phone was still ringing nonstop. Chen Yuan, meanwhile, seemed to need a rather long time to cool down.
He showed no signs of returning.
Only then did Jiangg Ning get up, pick up the phone, and press the answer button.
“Hey! Yuan, save me!”
The moment the call connected, a miserable cry came from the other end, followed by the boy sniveling as if overcome with endless sorrow.
She said nothing, as Liu Nan babbled on from the other end.
“This method doesn’t work at all! I hit on a few girls at Dongpu Lake, and they cussed me out. One even said she’s going to post about me on Little Red Book to warn everyone to stay away! Why don’t you come and save me? Your photography skills are so much better than mine.”
Hmm???
’Hitting on girls?’
Jiangg Ning paused, still not replying, letting Liu Nan shout “Hello?! Hello?!”. She lifted the curtain and glanced toward the restroom, but there was no sign of Chen Yuan.
So, Jiangg Ning cleared her throat and deliberately made her voice a little softer.
She said sweetly, “Hello, Chen Yuan isn’t here right now. Why don’t you try calling him back later?”
“?”
The wailing Liu Nan immediately went quiet, as if someone had hit the mute button.
By the shore of Dongpu Lake, he was dumbstruck.
After a moment, he managed to ask with difficulty, “And you are?”
“I… I’m Chen Yuan’s…” Jiangg Ning paused. “Ex-girlfriend.”
“Ah? Oh, never mind then. You two… carry on.”
