Chapter 100: Chapter 96: Core Seed: The Position of Chief Judge
“Professor Sang, there’s one more thing…” Yang Yan said hurriedly, seeing Sang Hanhai was about to turn and get to work.
Sang Hanhai looked over. Only then did Su Chen take a small step forward. “Professor Sang,” he said in a calm voice, “Southwind City hopes you will share a copy with them once the deciphering is complete.”
“That’s standard procedure. Do you really need to remind me of that?” Jin Yunxuan frowned, shooting a glance at Su Chen before turning to Yang Yan. “Is this a rookie you brought? Doesn’t he know the rules?”
“He’s probably not a rookie from the Judicial Court. From Southwind City, I presume?” Sang Hanhai raised a hand to stop Jin Yunxuan, having already figured it out. He asked with great interest, “I heard a promising new talent has emerged from your city.”
“Are you referring to… Su Chen?” Yang Yan’s heart skipped a beat.
“That sounds like the name. He caused two Chief Judges to come to blows over him. That guy Old Tian has been cursing out Xia Hanshi to anyone who will listen. I also heard he’s a rare Double-Talent Red Gold.” Sang Hanhai shook his head and added, “It’s a shame he was snatched up by that bastard Xia Hanshi.”
“A Double-Talent Red Gold?” Jin Yunxuan was also quite surprised. “That is indeed rare.”
Yang Yan glanced at Jin Yunxuan, and under the man’s somewhat baffled gaze, pointed to Su Chen and said, “That’s him.”
Jin Yunxuan’s expression stiffened, looking a bit awkward, but he quickly composed himself.
“Oh?” Sang Hanhai was surprised. He sized Su Chen up, looking thoughtful. ’That makes sense. An ordinary person wouldn’t have come with you just to give me a special reminder.’
Su Chen gave a wry smile. “I was fortunate to receive the favor of the two Chief Judges, but the part about them coming to blows is an exaggeration. I’m not worthy of such a fuss.”
“Haha…” Sang Hanhai chuckled. “Interesting. To think that rogue Xia Hanshi actually took on a smooth-talking student like you.”
“Southwind City, right? I’ll make a note of it. Once the deciphering is complete, I’ll make sure to instruct my people.”
“Thank you, Elder Sang.” Su Chen nodded, then asked with some hesitation, “Excuse me, but how long do you think the deciphering will take?”
Yang Yan’s face fell the moment he heard the question, but Jin Yunxuan revealed a smirk.
Sang Hanhai’s expression also grew more reserved. He said coolly, “That’s hard to say. Are you in a hurry?”
“Please, don’t misunderstand,” Su Chen quickly explained. “I feel… I might be able to help you with the deciphering.”
Jin Yunxuan almost burst out laughing. Yang Yan was also baffled. ’Su Chen isn’t a reckless person, so why would he say something like that?’
“Help me?” Sang Hanhai didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He waved his hand dismissively. “I appreciate the sentiment, but this isn’t something just anyone can decipher.”
“Please, hear me out…” Su Chen began to explain. “On the way here, I heard Judge Yang mention a special method of deciphering—one where a living individual has a special affinity with the profession recorded on the Holy Word Stone…”
Before he could finish, Sang Hanhai’s expression flickered. He cut in, “Celestial-Appointed Translation. You can resonate with the profession recorded on this Holy Word Stone?”
Yang Yan stared at Su Chen as if he’d seen a ghost. ’Is this kid just making things up?’
“Impossible!” Jin Yunxuan started to say, but Sang Hanhai cut him off. The professor’s expression grew serious, tinged with a certain gravity. “Are you certain?”
’Something else seems to be going on here.’
Su Chen realized something was off. As a Judge, Yang Yan’s information was likely far behind the Translation Department’s internal knowledge; perhaps they had developed new theories.
But having come this far, Su Chen could only bite the bullet and nod. “That’s right… I’ve been near it once or twice, and each time I got this vague, hard-to-describe feeling.”
Sang Hanhai said nothing, simply taking out the encrypted hard drive that was kept with the Holy Word Stone.
After a quick decryption, he looked at the data and frowned. “Southwind City deciphered a small portion. It says one of the requirements to take on this profession is three Space Crystals.”
’Three?’ Su Chen thought. ’That’s way off.’ He mulled it over for a moment before shaking his head. “I have a feeling it doesn’t require that many. Maybe two, or even just one, would be enough.”
Sang Hanhai narrowed his eyes. “Anything else?”
“Hmm…” Su Chen hesitated. “Could I take a look at it?”
Sang Hanhai handed him the Holy Word Stone. Su Chen took it and stared at the densely packed, constantly flickering symbols covering its surface.
He feigned a thoughtful expression, then said hesitantly after a moment, “I feel like… it might also require assistance from a Mental Profession.”
Sang Hanhai remained noncommittal. He took back the Holy Word Stone and placed it on a cylindrical instrument in the center of the laboratory.
The laboratory staff responded immediately, moving to their respective stations.
As a command was issued, the Holy Word Stone on the instrument trembled with growing intensity, its symbols flashing ever faster on the large screen nearby.
This appeared to be a method for accelerating the manifestation of the stone’s symbols.
“Stop…” Sang Hanhai said, suddenly raising his hand. The instrument gradually ground to a halt. He stood before the large screen, which was now filled with a tapestry of complex, flickering symbols.
“So it’s true…”
Soon, the furrows on Sang Hanhai’s brow smoothed out.
“That was fast?” Yang Yan’s tense heart relaxed slightly, but he was still stunned.
“Previously, deciphering this was like finding a needle in a haystack. But now, Su Chen has pointed me in the right direction. All I have to do is verify it.” Sang Hanhai was in a good mood. “This is the advantage of a Celestial-Appointed Translator. It can increase the deciphering speed exponentially.”
“There is indeed a requirement for a Mental Profession, but not a high-level one. The primary class likely isn’t a High-level Spatial Profession; it’s probably used for support.”
Drawing on his years of deciphering experience, Sang Hanhai had already made a basic deduction.
’He’s incredible,’ Su Chen couldn’t help but marvel. ’I have my panel, but he has nothing like that.’
Sang Hanhai looked at Su Chen and said thoughtfully, “In that case, why don’t you come help me out temporarily until this profession is fully deciphered? I’ll get you temporary clearance so you can come find me directly.”
