Chapter 107: Chapter 98: The Path of the Purifier (Part 2)
He watched Su Chen slowly amble up to the Holy Word Stone, his eyes fixed upon it.
A moment later, the young man’s eyes suddenly widened. He staggered back several steps, gasping for breath.
’Resonance can cause a reaction like this?’ Sang Hanhai wondered.
“Elder Sang…” Su Chen looked at Sang Hanhai, his chest heaving. He forced a smile. “It seems fate is on my side.”
“You really resonated?” Sang Hanhai was stunned.
“Yes…” Su Chen seemed to be processing the experience, hesitating before he spoke. “It’s like… like… I need to pass through some kind of rift…”
“A rift?” Sang Hanhai instantly slipped into work mode, his expression growing more and more excited. He didn’t even bother with verification this time, simply pacing back and forth.
“A spatial fissure? Yes… you need to be imbued with spatial properties, pass through the rift, use a Space Crystal as the core to create a Dimensional Space, and then use Spiritual Power as a key to open it…”
“Record this… record this…” he said in a low voice. “Entry 2437: a space-type support Profession. Rating: A. Name: Space…”
Sang Hanhai uttered the word, then fell into deep thought.
“Storer?” Su Chen offered quietly.
“Good…” Sang Hanhai’s eyes lit up. “Let’s call it the Space Storer. Requirement one for assuming the Profession is… Requirement two is… Requirement three is…”
“Prepare to initiate the verification process…”
Establishing a Profession is a long process. A single error in the information could lead to massive casualties.
The staff quickly bustled about while Sang Hanhai turned to Su Chen, a look of deep appreciation in his eyes. “This is the fastest deciphering I’ve ever seen. No wonder my teacher was always going on about Celestial-Appointed Translators. The help they provide is immense.”
“Unfortunately, they’re a matter of pure luck—you can’t just go out and find one. Besides, a Celestial-Appointed Translator can only resonate with a single Holy Word Stone…”
A glint in his eye, Su Chen couldn’t help but ask, “Are there any Celestial-Appointed Translators who can resonate with multiple Holy Word Stones simultaneously?”
“Hm?” Sang Hanhai’s expression turned strange. “It’s rare to find someone like you even once in many years, let alone someone who can resonate with multiple Holy Word Stones at once.”
“However…” He trailed off, then changed his tune. “But whether they actually exist or not, I can’t really say.”
“Actually…” Sang Hanhai paused to think, then, seeing the look of longing on Su Chen’s face, he couldn’t help but add, “Regarding Celestial-Appointed Translators… there’s been some disagreement within the Translation Department in recent years.”
“In some other cities, there’s a theory that Celestial-Appointed Translators don’t resonate with the Profession, but with the Holy Word Stone itself.”
“Just as the Deceitful God Sect can use the Holy Word Stones to communicate with the Deceitful God they serve, perhaps Celestial-Appointed Translators have a similar quality, which is why they can resonate.”
“Unfortunately, there are too few examples. There was a large-scale screening a few years back, but it caused some trouble and the project was shelved.”
Su Chen fell into thought. ’If that’s the case, I might have an opportunity.’
’But for now, I’m not going to reveal anything more. My only standing is my personal connection as Xia Hanshi’s student. I haven’t even joined the Judicial Court; I lack any official backing.’
“We’ve gotten sidetracked.” Sang Hanhai waved his hand, his expression turning serious. “I’ll ask you one last time: are you sure you want the Saint?”
“If you don’t take it, you can save this opportunity to exchange for a Tier Four, or even a Tier Five Profession later. Even within the Judicial Court, you don’t get information on Professions for free.”
“I only want the Saint,” Su Chen said without hesitation.
Sang Hanhai said no more. “Wait here a moment. I’ll go retrieve the data.”
He wasn’t the one who had deciphered the Saint Profession. To access the information, he had to go through the proper channels.
Sang Hanhai left the laboratory, and silence fell. The only sounds were the whirring of equipment and the footsteps of staff members moving about. Now and then, curious glances were shot his way.
Su Chen found a seat and waited quietly.
He didn’t have to wait long. When Sang Hanhai returned, the expression on his face was even stranger.
He led Su Chen to a lounge at the side of the laboratory. As Su Chen stared in a daze, Sang Hanhai popped out his left eyeball and placed it in a cleaning apparatus.
“I once looked at something I shouldn’t have, and my eyeball exploded.” Seeing Su Chen’s dazed expression, Sang Hanhai couldn’t help but chuckle. He offered a word of advice, “High-tier Profession information is inherently dangerous. If you encounter any in the future, be extremely careful when you handle it.”
Su Chen couldn’t help but think of the “Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator.” The name was carved right there on those nine rings for all to see. ’The Translation Department has to know about that, right?’
“The ’Sealed Profession’ category in the Translation Department’s archives contains Professions with requirements that are harsh, nearly impossible to complete, or even pose extreme danger to others.” Sang Hanhai finally got to the point, a wry smile on his face. “But even so, I never expected the requirements for the Saint Profession to be like this.”
“Listen closely.”
Su Chen focused his attention as Sang Hanhai began to slowly recite the details.
[Special Profession Discovered—Saint. May be assumed upon completion of the following requirements.]
[Requirement 1: Possess a Spiritual Side Red Gold Talent.]
[Requirement 2: Personally save one thousand people.]
[Requirement 3: Never take the life of a living being.]
’This…’ Su Chen’s gaze unfocused. ’The first requirement, the Red Gold Talent, is fairly standard.’
’But the second one is already quite difficult. The term “save” is very broad. Does it mean psychologically or physically?’
’Saving even one person is a hassle, let alone a thousand.’
’Even if I found a way to cheese the requirement with outside help, it would still consume a massive amount of time and resources.’
’And the third requirement is even more absurd. It just forbids killing altogether?’
“These requirements are… strange. Not necessarily difficult, but not simple either, especially the last one.” Sang Hanhai gave a bitter smile. “I questioned Old Hai, the one who deciphered it, and he said that last requirement is the trickiest part.”
“Sentient life forms… that probably includes all Mutant Species, as well as humans.”
“He theorized that even if you complete the first two requirements, the moment you take a life, the Profession itself will shatter. Not only would you lose all your Professional Abilities, but you’d suffer severe personal trauma as well.”
