Chapter 168: Chapter 117: Assassination! The Death of Liu Chen
Though the attack was sudden, he could still sense his opponent’s strength wasn’t particularly high.
’If I can just block this, I’ll be able to…’
Just then, however, Liu Chen’s pupils dilated. A sharp pain shot through his brain as his vision went black, and a low, irritating drone echoed faintly in his ears.
“What is this place!?”
Terrified, Liu Chen looked around. He had completely lost control of his body, and the process of Elementalization came to an abrupt halt.
The axe blade whistled through the air and slammed down hard on Liu Chen’s head.
CRACK—
The crisp sound of cracking bone rang out as blood sprayed into the air.
’This tough?’ Su Chen thought, looking at his axe blade, which was now stuck in the man’s bone. Even without control, his physical durability was still intact.
The searing pain in his head snapped Liu Chen back to his senses. The attacker was right in front of him, his face hidden by a mask. But on his bald head, a Black Pupil was staring intently at him.
“A Black Tuo Follower! A Mental Attack!” Liu Chen was furious and terrified. A Mental Attack of this intensity could make him lose control completely.
’This person must be a Mental Professional on the verge of Tier Four!’
“Why are you attacking me?!” Liu Chen roared. Faced with a life-or-death crisis, his adrenaline surged. Iridescent blue scales surfaced on his skin, covered in patterns that rippled like water.
“I’m not the one who destroyed the Pang Family.” He couldn’t understand. If these Black Tuo Followers wanted revenge, why were they targeting him?
’So tough…’ Su Chen was surprised as well. Even with the man having lost control, it was difficult to cleave through him with pure physical strength.
But then he pressed down with his hand. Rampant Spiritual Power transformed into Telekinesis and surged into the great-axe. The face of the axe suddenly erupted with web-like arcs of Crimson electricity.
The crackling electricity climbed along the axe’s edge, ionizing the air and filling it with the smell of ozone. It formed a swirling tempest of lightning around the blade.
The Crimson Thunder Prison was compressed into the great-axe, unleashing even greater destructive power within that confined space.
CRACK!
This time, it shattered the scales on his head and split his skull right down the middle.
“ARGH—” Liu Chen’s eyes bulged wide.
Only then did the woman, who had been sent flying, dazedly get to her feet. She hadn’t even processed what was happening. Her body ached all over, and then she heard a sickening tear.
She turned toward the sound and saw the body she knew so well being split in two from head to toe. A spray of blood blinded her.
Through the gap between the two halves of the corpse, she saw him—a man in a mask, bald, with black patterns covering his exposed skin. The patterns converged at the top of his head to form a vertical pupil.
Her heart seized. She was about to scream, but her eyes rolled back in her head, and she fainted dead away.
’As expected of an Inner Court Seed…’ Su Chen thought, looking at the corpse on the floor. Even with the advantage of a surprise attack, it had still been a bit of a struggle.
He quickly scanned the area. His Telekinesis surged, penetrating every crack and crevice in the room to pull all of Liu Chen’s belongings into his Storage Space. He didn’t find the Thunder Core.
’This is the unlock Card for his Hovercar…’ Su Chen mused, pinching the black Card. He decided to check the vehicle.
Before leaving, Su Chen glanced back at the woman on the floor. An idea struck him. ’As the only survivor, she’ll definitely be questioned.’
His Spiritual Power rippled, and he planted a seed in her mind.
…
He went down to the hotel garage and, sure enough, found a specially forged metal box inside the Hovercar.
After placing it in his Storage Space, he took a roundabout route back to the Judicial Court.
’There probably won’t be any problems,’ Su Chen thought. He had been mulling it over the entire way back.
Deaths among Judges had been frequent lately. Liu Chen’s death would just be another one among them, which was convenient.
’Our conflict happened… well, outsiders probably don’t even know we had one. Besides, he was Tier Three, and I’m only Tier Two.’
Su Chen mused, ’But he was an Inner Court Seed, so his death will probably cause some ripples. To be safe, I should hide my advancement to Tier Three for a while. I won’t request the D-level Meditation Technique yet, and I won’t have the Gu Family prepare the Tier Three Support Potion either.’
He couldn’t figure out why Liu Chen had targeted him—whether it was of his own volition or at someone else’s behest.
But it would be incredibly annoying if people kept interfering with his affairs.
’I hope he was acting on his own,’ Su Chen thought, assessing the night’s battle. ’With the Wind Boots, just in terms of speed, Liu Chen couldn’t even react. Even accounting for the surprise attack, my speed is comparable to a Tier Three’s.’
Speed was a relatively difficult attribute to improve. For some Professions, advancing to the next tier might increase their strength more than tenfold, but their speed might not increase much, or could even decrease.
’Making the Wind Boots one of my Control Secret Artifacts was the right decision,’ Su Chen mused. He had completed the process right before the attack.
The Wind Boots provided not only their own amplification but also an ability enhancement, which was what allowed him to achieve such a feat.
He then turned his attention to the spoils from the night’s work.
The main prize was the small metal case he’d found in Liu Chen’s car. It was extremely heavy. As soon as he opened it, CRACKLE! POP! Arcs of electricity shot out.
Inside lay three irregular crystals—one red, one blue, and one green. Su Chen could faintly sense the violent Energy contained within them.
’No wonder it was stored in such a thick, heavy case…’ Su Chen clicked his tongue in amazement.
If Liu Chen had been carrying these three things on him and had accidentally touched them in the room, Su Chen wasn’t sure he himself would have survived the encounter.
Su Chen reached out and picked one up. He immediately felt his body drawing the power from it, which then flowed into some undetectable place within him.
It was just like the last time he’d touched a Secret Technique Energy Crystal.
The crystal soon vanished without a trace, and the remaining two quickly met the same fate.
