Chapter 181: Chapter 123: Dirty Tricks, Heavy Drinking
The next morning, Su Chen had No. Zero prepare the same breakfast for the Judge standing guard outside.
’Hmm… These spots are showing a strong reaction, but it’s hard to pinpoint the exact locations. A bit tricky…’ Su Chen stared at the virtual map before him, which displayed three red circles.
They didn’t look large, but on the ground, they represented a massive area.
These were the locations he had roughly estimated last night using the abilities of Priest Black Tuo. The central region had the strongest reading.
’But I can’t really go out right now. I have to wait until Zhu Xuan is dead…’ As Su Chen was pondering this, he heard a commotion outside.
’He’s here again…’ Su Chen walked to the window and saw it was Zhu Xuan, shouting something about an “apology,” being blocked outside by Wu Yang.
“That guy is determined to pin this on me.” Su Chen’s expression darkened. Yesterday, he only had his suspicions, but seeing him here again today made his intentions crystal clear.
Ming Lin approached from a distance, circled around with a strange look on his face, and came in through the back door.
“What’s with that guy?” he asked as soon as he entered. “Did your little pep talk actually get to him?”
“Who knows? Maybe he was beaten stupid,” Su Chen said, shaking his head. His tone then shifted as he said sincerely, “Thank you for your help.”
“Help?” Ming Lin paused, then chuckled. “Oh, you mean the recent rumors. It was nothing. Wei Yufan actually tried to scheme against me too, so of course, I had to knock him down a peg.”
“You’re pretty ruthless yourself, calling in people for protection right inside the Judicial Court. Aren’t you just trying to provoke Wei Yufan?”
Many people thought Su Chen had deliberately called for protection just to spite Wei Yufan–
’You’re so powerful, sir, that I have to be careful even inside the Judicial Court.’
“In any case, you helped me let off some steam. Today, we’re drinking until we drop.” Su Chen took out the few bottles of wine Wang Yang had left last night.
“Drinking?” Ming Lin looked astonished. This was the first time Su Chen had ever actively invited someone for a drink.
Naturally, he wasn’t going to refuse and immediately started drinking freely.
It was only morning, but the two of them drank straight through to the evening. Ming Lin, normally a gentle and cultured person, began to harshly criticize the current state of internal strife in Ying Feng. It was unclear if he was truly drunk or just pretending.
He passionately debated what he would do, repeatedly starting with the phrase “If I were the Chief…”, and eventually tried to subtly inquire about Su Chen’s Top-tier Profession. Su Chen, however, played dumb to all questions.
Finally, Ming Lin said with a hint of resignation, “That old fox Wei Yufan… he’s a real piece of work. He’s leaked news to the public that he’s about to advance to a Tier Five Profession.”
“Advancing to Tier Five?” Su Chen had just drained his glass.
Ming Lin, his face flushed, nodded. “This way, he’ll have an excuse to refuse challenges for a short time. The challenge arena can’t suppress a Tier Five Professional. Once he successfully advances, it’s like he’s temporarily exempt from the challenge rankings.”
“He’s doing this deliberately so you can’t get the Chief Seed position.”
“However, he’d been preparing to advance to a certain Top-tier Profession for two years. By rushing it now, he’ll probably have to settle for a Superior one.”
’He’s certainly got a lot of tricks…’ Su Chen didn’t seem to mind, simply continuing to drink with Ming Lin.
The two of them drank heavily for several days straight. By the end, when Ming Lin came to meet him, his face was green.
“No more drinking today, no more…” Ming Lin waved his hands repeatedly. It wasn’t that he couldn’t drink anymore, but he was sick of it and had no idea what Su Chen was up to.
“Alright…” Su Chen looked disappointed and poured himself a drink.
Ming Lin finally couldn’t take it anymore. “Junior Brother, if you have something to say, just say it. If I can help, I will. If I can’t, there’s nothing I can do.”
Su Chen just said there was nothing to help with. Ming Lin couldn’t just watch him drink alone, so he had no choice but to join him again.
Around noon, however, a piece of news arrived that neither of them expected.
“Meng Qi defeated Feng Ze? He’s a Core Seed now?” The sudden report from No. Zero quite surprised Ming Lin.
He opened his Wristband and received a detailed report from his subordinates, his expression growing more and more astonished. “Meng Qi… He actually took the Bloody Butcher profession.”
He sighed repeatedly. “The allure of a Core Seed position is really something. I’ve seen him a few times, always so timid. I never thought he’d have this kind of courage.”
“Indeed…” Su Chen poured more wine, his eyes glinting. ’With Meng Qi becoming a Core Seed, Zhu Xuan will probably die soon.’
Su Chen didn’t know what Zhu Xuan’s current situation was, but he figured it wouldn’t last much longer. After drinking heavily for several days, he was feeling tired himself.
Then, in the mid-afternoon, another piece of news disrupted their drinking plans–
Chong Jingtian was summoning all six current Core Seeds at once.
“Ha, the Chief Judge is summoning us. I guess we can’t drink anymore.” Ming Lin sprang up from the sofa, looking relieved. He made up his mind not to come tomorrow, no matter what.
“What a shame…” Su Chen lamented on the surface, but inwardly he couldn’t help but wonder, ’This summons includes Meng Qi. I wonder if Chong Jingtian will notice anything unusual.’
The two of them tidied up a bit and left together. Ming Lin couldn’t help but ask, puzzled, “I wonder why the Chief Judge has suddenly summoned us.”
“No idea. Maybe he’s going to pass on his position,” Su Chen joked offhandedly.
To his surprise, Ming Lin took the ridiculous suggestion seriously and asked, “Then who do you think he’ll pass it to?”
Su Chen was speechless inwardly, but continued his nonsense aloud: “Anyone but Wei Yufan would be fine.”
…
Meanwhile, inside a spacious area within a certain building at the heart of the Judicial Court, a group of people had gathered.
“How has Old Pu been lately?” Chong Jingtian asked, looking at Sang Hanhai, who was picking up and examining Space Crystals one by one.
“Senior Brother is the same as always. He’s been researching the Divine Language. I’m lucky if I see him once every ten days or so.” Sang Hanhai’s hands never stopped moving. He picked up a somewhat dim Space Crystal. “Energy unstable. Reject…”
A staff member standing nearby carefully took it and placed it in a small box.
“The Divine Language…” Chong Jingtian seemed to recall something and sighed. “I hope he can produce some results.”
“It’s not even certain if the Divine Language truly exists,” Sang Hanhai said, shaking his head. He changed the subject. “The Space Crystals are ready. You can create the Spatial Rift, but as for a Tier Two Top Mental Profession… none of the Judicial Court’s Core Seeds have one, right?”
“If you try it rashly, there could be problems. Don’t blame me for not warning you in advance.”
“There won’t be any problems.” Chong Jingtian reached out and clenched his fist, and a piece of metal materialized in his hand. “A profession this useful is worth a try.”
“You actually succeeded,” Sang Hanhai said, surprised.
“The space is too small, only two or three cubic meters.” Chong Jingtian couldn’t help but shake his head. “There are too many variables to control. The resonance time between the Space Crystal and the Spatial Rift is incredibly difficult to manage.”
“Indeed…” Sang Hanhai deeply agreed. “It is spatial, after all. Even for a support-type profession like this, the difficulty is absurdly high.”
Before long, Wei Yufan was the first to arrive.
“Chief…” he called out respectfully. Chong Jingtian gave a faint nod.
“Elder Sang, you’re here too…” Wei Yufan then looked toward Sang Hanhai.
“Ah, it’s you…” Sang Hanhai glanced at him and said casually, “You’ve got your father’s style.”
“My father also mentions you often.” Wei Yufan tried to seize the opening to make small talk, but Sang Hanhai had already turned away to adjust the equipment.
An awkward expression on his face, he could only fall silent.
…
“Someone from the Translation Department is here too.”
Outside the door, Ming Lin had already spotted a Hovercar with the Translation Department’s insignia on its shell.
“Trans– A0823.” Glancing at the license plate, he was quite surprised. “It’s actually Elder Sang’s car.”
“Sang Hanhai?” Su Chen gave him a surprised look. ’This guy even remembers license plate numbers.’
“It’s *Elder Sang*,” Ming Lin stressed, lowering his voice. “You need to be more respectful. If someone from the Translation Department hears you, it’ll be another pointless argument.”
“Is he that big of a deal?” Su Chen asked, his expression odd.
“You don’t know?” Ming Lin looked even more baffled. “Weren’t you running over to the Translation Department all the time when you first joined the Judicial Court?”
This wasn’t a secret; anyone who cared to look could find it out.
“Oh, I get it now.” Ming Lin had a moment of realization. “You probably thought Elder Sang was just a professor.”
“Isn’t he?” Su Chen retorted.
