Chapter 183: Chapter 124: Officially a Space Storer
Only Meng Qi still looked pathetic, his head lowered as he sized up the surroundings out of the corner of his eye.
Chong Jingtian was also quite surprised. ’Since when did Su Chen get on such good terms with the Translation Department? Shouldn’t Old Pu reject anything and everything related to Xia Hanshi?’
Seeing that Sang Hanhai was about to speak again, Chong Jingtian cut him off. “Since most everyone is here, let’s get ready to start. Zhu Xuan should be here in a bit.”
Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief. He really had been afraid Old Sang would say something outrageous.
“I’ve called you all here today mainly for you to acquire a new Profession.” Chong Jingtian’s gaze swept over them. “It’s called the Space Storer.”
’This Profession?’ Su Chen was surprised.
“This Profession allows you to create a Dimensional Space that only you can open, letting you store all sorts of objects,” Chong Jingtian explained.
“Hm?” Wei Yufan’s eyes lit up. “A Profession like this actually exists? The world is full of wonders.”
“Storing things on the go… that’s way too convenient.”
“Can it hold living people? How big is it?”
“It’s incredible…”
Sang Hanhai was rendered speechless when he saw Su Chen’s astonished expression. ’This kid is a really good actor.’ He couldn’t be bothered to expose him.
Su Chen caught Sang Hanhai’s faint smirk but didn’t feel the least bit awkward.
“However, the conditions for acquiring it are rather special. Let me explain…” Chong Jingtian said. “In a moment, I will open a Spatial Rift. You will each take a Space Crystal from the side and then pass through the rift.”
“When you do, the Space Crystal will react with the rift. Judge You will assist your Spiritual Power in merging with it…”
Chong Jingtian didn’t explain the specific requirements, simply telling them to follow the steps.
Su Chen’s heart stirred as a panel appeared in his vision. His Space Storer Profession had one final requirement left to complete: pass through a Spatial Rift.
’Perfect, I can just blend in,’ Su Chen muttered to himself, shuffling back a bit. He wanted to see how the others reacted when they acquired the Profession and if he could convincingly fake it.
Suddenly, a heart-stopping aura emanated from the center of the area. Chong Jingtian had walked to the middle, his outstretched arm gradually turning a bright silver, as if forged from metal.
With a sharp gaze, he slowly sank both arms into the void. The movement seemed both slow and fast. Space rippled, and spiderweb-like cracks appeared, expanding rapidly.
RRRIP!
A deep, dark rift appeared, filled with bizarre, shifting lights, strange and unfathomable.
“Wei Yufan, you’re first,” Chong Jingtian ordered.
Wei Yufan clearly didn’t want to be the first, but he couldn’t refuse. He reluctantly walked to the side and picked up a Space Crystal.
You Shan stood beside the rift as a staff member from the Translation Department instructed Wei Yufan, “After you enter the rift, the Space Crystal will melt…”
There were many things to keep in mind, such as… not to get excited after sensing the Dimensional Space, or the process could be interrupted, resulting in a much smaller space.
Wei Yufan listened carefully. Taking a deep breath, he clutched the Space Crystal tightly in one hand and, with the air of a martyr going to his death, plunged headfirst into the Spatial Rift.
Su Chen and the others froze as a terrifying, oppressive aura burst forth from You Shan, who stood beside the rift.
Su Chen felt it most keenly—it was a distorted mental field, the presence of a behemoth lurking in the shadows. This judge was a Mental Professional.
Time passed quickly. After just a few minutes, Wei Yufan stumbled out from the other side of the Spatial Rift, gasping for air, his expression a mixture of shock and uncertainty.
“Did you succeed?” a staff member asked.
A flicker passed through Wei Yufan’s eyes before he shook his head. “No.”
’That little bastard!’ Chong Jingtian’s expression darkened.
Wei Yufan walked to the side, his head lowered, and said nothing. Next up was Zhong Ming.
He also picked up a Space Crystal, walked into the rift, and stumbled out after about the same amount of time. When asked if he had succeeded, he also shook his head. “No.”
’These guys are so damn crafty,’ Su Chen grumbled internally. ’Whether they succeeded or not, it’s their own ability. Hiding it is always better than showing it off.’
Ming Lin followed, and he too shook his head with a regretful look on his face.
Su Chen’s turn was before Meng Qi’s. He picked up a Space Crystal and stood before the deep, dark Spatial Rift.
’I’ve already succeeded. I wonder what’s going to happen now.’
Su Chen clutched the crystal and stepped in. It felt like stepping on air. The scene around him swirled rapidly, as if he had fallen into a kaleidoscope of bizarre, shifting lights.
Then, he felt a cold sensation in his brain and heard Judge You’s voice. “Don’t resist.”
Su Chen obediently allowed her to guide his Spiritual Power.
But the Space Crystal in his hand showed no reaction. You Shan frowned. “Strange.”
His vision blurred, and he stumbled out. Everyone’s gaze immediately fell upon him, then settled on the Space Crystal clutched in his hand.
The expressions on Wei Yufan, Zhong Ming, and Ming Lin’s faces became incredibly awkward.
So, if you didn’t succeed, the Space Crystal in your hand wouldn’t melt.
“A pity…” Chong Jingtian shook his head but didn’t make a big deal of it. He waved for Meng Qi to go up.
“You actually failed,” Sang Hanhai said, sidling up to him. “This ability is pretty useful. Want to try again later?”
“If I get it, I’m lucky. If not, it’s fate,” Su Chen said nonchalantly. On his panel—
[Space Storer Acquisition Requirement 3 Complete]
The final acquisition requirement was complete. This time, his Storage Space did not expand.
[Acquired Professional Ability—Spatial Concealment: You can hide yourself within a spatial fold.]
A new Professional Ability!
Su Chen examined it closely. It was a concealment-type ability.
’Hiding in a spatial fold… I don’t know the specifics of how it works, but it should be quite strong. I’ll have to try it out when I get back.’
He was in a good mood. He’d originally thought it would take a long time to complete this final requirement.
’What a benevolent guy, that Chong Jingtian. He gets his hands on something good and doesn’t forget to share it with his subordinates.’
As he was thinking, he heard You Shan shout, “You… what’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you listen to me…”
It was Meng Qi. He had stumbled out of the Spatial Rift with a look of terror on his face, vomiting blood. The Space Crystal in his hand was only half-gone.
“I… I don’t know either…” Meng Qi stammered, terrified.
“A backlash from the acquisition. He failed, and he can’t try again,” Sang Hanhai said, shaking his head with pity. “His compatibility with this Profession is too low. Forcing it would cause major problems.”
Hearing Sang Hanhai’s explanation, You Shan’s expression softened slightly.
’How can this guy be so cowardly?’ Chong Jingtian frowned as he looked at the terrified, blood-vomiting Meng Qi. “Forget it. Let’s leave it at that.”
’Didn’t listen to her? What didn’t he listen to?’
Su Chen keenly realized what she meant. ’Was she talking about letting her guide his Spiritual Power?’
’Did Meng Qi resist on purpose, or was it a genuine backlash? And Judge You didn’t notice anything was off about him?’
“You should try again,” Sang Hanhai urged.
Su Chen didn’t mind. He calmly went up and passed through the rift two or three more times, but the Space Crystal in his hand never reacted.
“Looks like you’re completely incompatible with this Profession,” Sang Hanhai couldn’t help but shake his head. “This Profession is really useful. A shame, such a shame…”
Seeing this, Wei Yufan felt for the half-cubic-meter of space he now possessed somewhere and felt a lot better. But then he saw Su Chen and Sang Hanhai chatting casually, and his expression turned sour again.
“Elder Sang, if the person dies, what happens to their Dimensional Space?” Su Chen asked.
“Two possibilities. Either it disappears completely, or it explodes on the spot,” Sang Hanhai mused. “We don’t have any test subjects, so we can’t be sure.”
“Why isn’t Zhu Xuan here yet?” Chong Jingtian, however, frowned as he looked toward the door. They had been waiting for a while now; he’d even sent someone to hurry him along.
“Let’s wait a bit longer. If he doesn’t come, all we can say is that he’s missed his chance with this Profession.” Chong Jingtian was blunt. He had provided the opportunity; if the person didn’t value it, they had no one to blame but themselves.
After another ten minutes or so, a man came running in, drenched in sweat and utterly panicked. It was Chu Yunze.
“Chief, Chief!” he called out repeatedly, his eyes wide with terror.
“What is it?” Seeing Chu Yunze, Chong Jingtian immediately had a bad feeling and asked in a low, grave voice.
“Zhu Xuan… Zhu Xuan… Zhu Xuan…” Chu Yunze was tongue-tied, finally managing to stammer out, “He… he’s… dead!”
