My Professions Have Too Much Personality - Chapter 57: I’m Already Rank 2

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: I’m Already Rank 2
’Huh, why isn’t there a result yet?’ Su Chen waited for a moment and saw that no more information appeared after the “…”
’This Black Tuo Follower is pretty tough. He’s a special profession, after all. Last time, the Engineering Apprentice caved immediately. I guess this iron-fist re-education will take some time before he sees the error of his ways.’
Su Chen muttered to himself, guessing there probably wouldn’t be any problems. The other Professionals all looked quite confident.
After collecting the precious metals and other items from the floor, Su Chen stretched. He habitually took out a Black Flame Potion from his Storage Space. He was about to put it back but ended up chugging it down.
He still had two vials of the stuff left; might as well use them.
’I don’t feel a thing anymore.’
He didn’t even need to go to the Gravity Chamber to test its effects; the difference was obvious. The familiar sensation of scorching flames was completely gone, as if he had just drunk a sip of tea. It was useless.
’I guess the 1x Gravity Chamber won’t have much of an effect anymore either.’
’Tier Two Potions, E-level Body Refining Techniques… Resources…’ Su Chen rubbed his brow. He thought long and hard but couldn’t think of any way to get them. ’I’ll have to count on the Inspectorate.’
He rubbed his stomach, feeling a little hungry. Su Chen decided to head out to the Inspectorate cafeteria for breakfast. After drinking all those Potions, he felt like the taste in his mouth had changed.
He picked out two huge chicken legs, each as thick as his arm—they were called “mountain-roaming chickens” or something—and ladled a bowl of rich broth glistening with golden oil. Finding a corner, he began to feast.
“Panko’s actually late today,” a few patrol guards nearby were chatting. “That’s strange. He’s usually one of the first to arrive.”
“Maybe he felt like sleeping in today.”
The men were just making small talk over their meal. After a couple of sentences, they moved on to other topics.
’Arriving early and leaving late, so dedicated to his work… and nobody thought he was suspicious?’
Su Chen complained inwardly, his mind still racing. ’Without revealing my Tier Two Profession, it’ll probably be impossible to get these resources easily… It shouldn’t be a problem… But that City Lord…’
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
“So you really are here…”
He was halfway through his meal when a shadow fell over him. Fatty Sun rapped on the table and sat down across from him, mournfully declining the chicken leg Su Chen offered. “The guards said they saw the elevator stop at the cafeteria floor. I didn’t quite believe it.”
“I’m so sick of everything tasting bland. Come on, try some.” Su Chen’s tone was much more relaxed.
“My friend, you really know how to play games,” he grumbled. “You give me last-minute notice to go celebrate with that Zhou Li girl, you invite everyone, and then you’re the only one who doesn’t show up.”
“And that Zhou Li, she was all dolled up and smelling incredible. When I got home, I still had her perfume on me. My wife nearly skinned me alive.”
“Something came up at the last minute, didn’t it? Thanks for hosting them for me, brother.”
Su Chen invited Sun Tai to sit. Last night, just in case, he hadn’t only notified Han Da.
He had also called out everyone else from the patrol team, using Zhou Li’s promotion to Messenger as the reason for a celebration.
Hearing Su Chen’s explanation, Fatty Sun waved his hand. “That’s no big deal. But Zhou Li was really unhappy. She waited for you half the night.”
Su Chen just smiled at that and changed the subject. “Brother Sun, I was just about to look for you.”
“I wanted to ask, are there any channels to get Tier Two Potions and an E-level Body Refining Technique?”
“Tier Two… Is it for a friend?” Fatty Sun mused, his small eyes narrowing. “That’s not easy. Tier Two Potions are all purchased from other places. The trade caravans only come once a month, and everything is allocated by quota.”
“On the black market, a single dose can sell for seven or eight thousand. The markup is too high.”
“Allocated?” Su Chen was surprised.
“That’s right…” Fatty Sun nodded. “Tier Two Professionals are basically all management-level in the various organizations. They get a fixed quota of training potions.”
“As for an E-level Body Refining Technique, that requires authorization from the Minister to be allocated.” Fatty Sun said, “Nowadays, you’d probably need the City Lord’s approval.”
Su Chen thought for a moment, then sat up straight. “Actually, it’s not for a friend. I’m the one who needs it.”
“You?” Fatty Sun didn’t react at first. Then, he shot up from the sofa, his eyes wide with shock. “You’re already Tier Two?”
Not far away, a few Inspector Guards looked over in surprise. They seemed to have faintly heard the words “Tier Two” and were now scanning Su Chen with suspicious eyes.
“Mhm,” Su Chen nodded. Since the Inspectorate operated on an allocation system, there was no need to hide it. Securing the resources as quickly as possible was the best move.
“I can’t believe it…” A complex expression washed over Sun Tai’s face. “That was so fast. You’re incredibly persistent.”
Ever since Su Chen had arrived at the Inspectorate, he had barely left his quarters.
Sun Tai hadn’t thought much of it before, but now, hearing this news, he couldn’t help but feel emotional.
With that said, his spirits lifted. “Come on, stop eating. Come with me to see the City Lord. You should get everything you’re entitled to, not a single thing less.”
…
“Still no leads?”
In the top-floor office of the Exploration Department, Yang Yan looked at Zhang Hongbo with displeasure. “The overt investigation found nothing, and now the covert one has been going on for so long, and still you’ve got nothing.”
Zhang Hongbo didn’t look too pleased either. “I thought there was a turbulent undercurrent in Southwind City, but it seems not. Zhou Xian has also been behaving himself.”
Yang Yan was very dissatisfied. “The Deceitful God Sect wouldn’t just transport an empty shell of a Deceitful Artifact in for no reason. There must be something you’ve missed.”
“The high-profile search found nothing, the secret investigation has yielded no results… and Zhou Xian hasn’t made any moves.” Zhang Hongbo paused. “Let’s try another method. Lure the snake out of its hole.”
“Tell me,” Yang Yan said, looking at him.
Zhang Hongbo hesitated and shook his head. “It’s just a bit risky.”
“If we don’t take risks, should we just wait to die?” Yang Yan couldn’t help but shake his head.
’These guys have been local tyrants for too long. They’re afraid of everything.’
“It’s not us taking the risk. It’s making someone under us take the risk,” Zhang Hongbo sighed.
“If they’re being protected, then they should be prepared to make a sacrifice.” Yang Yan’s words were cold. “Who?”
“That’s the other tricky part,” Zhang Hongbo said with a wry smile, looking troubled. “He’s the student of our Minister of Inspection.”
“Even better. His sense of duty should be higher.” Yang Yan raised an eyebrow and said bluntly, “You’re just afraid the Minister will come looking for trouble with you, aren’t you? As long as we can root out those maggots, I’ll take full responsibility for this.”
“But are you sure he can lure the snake out of its hole?”
“Sigh…” Zhang Hongbo sighed and tossed out a file. “Su Chen. He was the one who worked with Yuan Chenyang to intercept the Holy Word Stone outside the city, effectively foiling the Deceitful God Sect’s plot.”
“At the same time, he’s connected to the death of Zhou Xian’s son, and Qi Chuan’s death also seems to be related to him. From what I can tell, he also played a large part in finding the Deceitful Artifact.”
“Furthermore, he has already survived one assassination attempt. Perhaps he can draw some people out.”
“He’s that crucial?” Yang Yan was quite surprised. He took the file and glanced over it. “So young, a Tier One Professional… and with a Canyin Body Talent…”
A hint of hesitation appeared in his eyes. ’To use such a talent as bait…’
But when he reached the end of the file, he was stunned. “A refugee?”
