My Professions Have Too Much Personality - Chapter 88: Killing Assault

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Killing Assault
“Huh?” The Priest’s spirits lifted, his pitch-black eyes snapping over. “Who? Who is it!?”
They had poured so many resources into Southwind City, all for that Delicious Soul.
“Su Chen!” Zhou Xian replied, practically grinding his teeth.
He was a Tier Three Professional himself, and although he had become a Black Tuo Follower, his own Spiritual Resilience still allowed him to retain a degree of independent thought.
He still vividly remembered his hatred for Su Chen, the killer of his son.
“Su Chen?” The Priest’s previously excited expression gradually darkened. He was no stranger to the name; he had ruled him out as a suspect long ago. Frowning, he asked, “How could it be him?”
“Isn’t he a Faceless Ghost Follower?”
“There must be a mistake.” Zhou Xian faltered for a moment. Some of his doubts remained unanswered, but he now had extremely compelling evidence:
“He passed the inspection in Ying Feng unscathed and was even taken in as a student by Xia Hanshi. He definitely isn’t a Faceless Ghost Follower.”
“I’ve heard about this Xia Hanshi before. For him to go so far as to forcibly take on a student, his Talent must be Red Gold. It’s almost certain that he’s the Delicious Soul our Saint Master covets.”
“So we’ve been deceived?” Hearing the pieces of evidence, the Priest’s face turned ugly. “The target has been right under our noses this whole time.”
He hesitated briefly, glanced back, then shook his head. “It’s too late. Since he’s under Xia Hanshi’s protection, it will be very difficult to get him through normal means. We’ll just have to tear this place down.”
“Zhou Xian, there are still a few locations where the Sacrificial Array isn’t complete. Go finish them as quickly as possible,” he commanded.
“Yes.” Zhou Xian hesitated. He had wanted to ask if there was still any hope of resurrecting his son.
But for some reason, after glancing at the Black Tuo Statue behind the Priest, that thought suddenly vanished.
’Compared to finding a delicious, delectable Soul for the Saint Master, what does my son’s resurrection matter?’
Zhou Xian hurried away.
“Su Chen, Su Chen…” The Priest mulled over the name, his brow gradually un-furrowing. “As long as he hasn’t left Southwind, it’s fine. The Saint Master will be very pleased.”
But in the next instant, the Priest’s expression changed drastically. He looked up at the sky!
BOOM!
Golden flames fell like a meteor shower, tearing the roof off the shanty house above as a scorching heat washed over him.
’He’s really here!?’
Not far away, Yang Yan’s heart trembled.
Xia Hanshi looked down at the Priest sitting cross-legged on the ground and revealed a ferocious grin. “Caught you!”
“Xia Hanshi!?”
The Priest on the ground wore a savage expression, both panicked and incredulous. “You… how could you possibly find this place!”
Only he and Zhou Xian knew about this plan. Zhou Xian had become a Black Tuo Follower; it was impossible for him to betray them.
“Because of a helpful tip from someone with a righteous heart.” Xia Hanshi’s tone was cryptic. His gaze fell upon the Black Tuo Statue behind the Priest, following the lines that looked like Black Oil.
His expression instantly turned cold and grim, radiating killing intent. “A Sacrificial Array… You truly deserve to die.”
The Priest was utterly furious and terrified. The Sacrificial Array was not yet complete, but he had already invested a great deal of effort into it. Now was when it most needed to be stabilized.
’One day! I only needed one more day!’
’How could Xia Hanshi have found this place!?’
…
BOOM!
“Th-That’s?”
Zhou Xian, who hadn’t gone far, suddenly felt the ground shake. He turned to look and saw golden flames filling half the sky.
“Xia… Xia Hanshi!”
He cried out in shock, “How did he find this place? Could the Priest… have betrayed us!?”
“Saint Master!” He subconsciously started to run forward, but then stopped abruptly, a vein throbbing on his forehead. ’No, if I go now, it’s just suicide.’
’The Sacrificial Array isn’t finished, so the Priest has no escape. The Saint Master can’t descend, but…’
He looked in another direction, his expression gradually turning sinister. ’Perhaps this is also a rare opportunity.’
…
“Brother! My dear brother! You absolutely have to come home with me today.” Sun Tai stood at the doorway, grabbing Su Chen’s hand and not letting go. He said repeatedly, “Your sister-in-law has cooked up a feast just for you.”
“If you don’t come back with me, I won’t know how to answer to her.”
These past few days, Sun Tai had been on cloud nine, brimming with satisfaction.
He had shot up from Minister of Internal Affairs to become one of the two deputy ministers of the Inspectorate.
His old boss had even become the City Lord, and Younger Brother Su had become the Chief Judge’s student. Although City Lord Yuan was a bit downcast, he had secretly chuckled to himself a few times.
Never mind the other deputy minister; even Du Jingming, the designated Minister of Inspection, had to show him some respect.
The reason, of course, was the young man standing before him.
“If that’s the case… I guess I’ll go.” Su Chen found it hard to refuse such a warm invitation. He went back to tidy up a bit and change his clothes.
As the two walked, Sun Tai chattered endlessly. “You’ll go stir-crazy cooped up in your room all the time. You should get out and walk around more. What’s the point of raising your Professional Tier? Isn’t it all so we can enjoy life better?”
Su Chen chuckled and said as they walked, “I haven’t reached the point where I can enjoy life yet. When that time comes, don’t you worry, Old Brother. I won’t miss out on a single bit of enjoyment.”
The two stepped into an elevator, and Sun Tai nodded. “Sigh, that’s true. Life is short. As a Tier Two Professional, I’ll only live a dozen or so years longer than a normal person.”
“But still, our former City Lord was truly ruthless. His younger brother’s entire family was thrown in prison, and they’ve already been escorted to Ying Feng.”
“If he hadn’t been ruthless, his family would be the ones in prison,” Su Chen said lightly.
“True enough.” Sun Tai sighed wistfully. Just as he was about to say something more, he felt a violent rumble. A grating screech echoed from the elevator shaft as the car began to plummet.
Su Chen’s expression shifted slightly as he instantly stabilized himself. Sun Tai was not slow to react either; his fat suddenly tensed up as he grabbed onto the metal walls of the elevator car.
Sun Tai’s body continued to shrink, his layers of fat quickly transforming into bronze-colored, lean muscle, causing his clothes to hang loosely on him.
This was the first time Su Chen had seen Old Sun’s combat mode, and he was quite surprised.
BOOM!
He watched as Sun Tai’s arm suddenly punched through the elevator car and embedded itself in the shaft wall, bringing the plummeting car to an abrupt halt.
It was impossible to tell what floor they had stopped on. Sun Tai brute-forced the elevator doors open, and the two of them scrambled out.
“Fuck, how can an elevator have an accident?” Sun Tai cursed, but then he saw Su Chen’s grave expression and finally noticed the warning lights in the corridor flashing nonstop.
RUMBLE!
Another roar echoed as scorching electrical arcs erupted from the elevator shaft, instantly flooding the entire floor.
“Someone dares to attack the Inspectorate Headquarters?” Sun Tai looked astonished, dodging the spreading arcs of electricity as if they were vipers, only to realize with surprise that they weren’t very destructive.
“Su Chen!”
A roar echoed endlessly from the elevator shaft. Su Chen’s expression changed slightly. “Zhou Xian!?”
’His timing is too perfect. Old Xia and the others just left not long ago.’
’No, he must have found out that Old Xia and the others were gone, which is why he turned back to attack this place.’
“Is that… Zhou Xian?” Sun Tai realized it too. His face paled, and with a *thwump*, his body swelled back into its portly form.
“You’re courting death!”
But an enraged roar also came from the elevator shaft above. Cyan flames surged downward, clashing violently with the arcs of lightning.
“Thank goodness, thank goodness Minister Du is here…” Sun Tai breathed a sigh of relief.
Su Chen’s brow was tightly furrowed. Du Jingming had been forcibly promoted; in terms of direct combat strength, he probably wasn’t a match for Zhou Xian.
RUMBLE!!
A violent collision erupted from within the elevator shaft. Howling winds carrying arcs of lightning burst through the gaps in the elevator doors on every floor.
“Su Chen!” Zhou Xian roared again, sounding utterly crazed.
“His condition seems really off,” Su Chen said. He didn’t hesitate, turning to run with Sun Tai right behind him.
“Don’t even think about running!”
For some reason, even though Zhou Xian was still on a lower floor, he seemed able to sense Su Chen’s movements.
BOOM!
At the end of the hallway, the stuck elevator car exploded. A figure shrouded in electrical arcs shot out at extreme speed, its face contorted with rage, its eyes fixed only on Su Chen.
“You’ll have to get through me first!” Du Jingming was right behind him, his pupils turning cyan-red. He reached for Zhou Xian, and all five of his fingers spewed cyan flames that formed a large net.
“Get lost!” Zhou Xian’s body exploded into an arc of electricity, instantly escaping Du Jingming’s grasp.
’Trying to run?’
Su Chen stopped short, watching helplessly as Zhou Xian’s savage face materialized from the electrical arcs surging around them.
Sun Tai’s expression was one of terror, his heart clenching.
’It’s these seemingly harmless electrical arcs under our feet?’
Su Chen instantly understood how Zhou Xian was able to lock onto his position from so far away.
BOOM!
With a sudden clap of thunder, Su Chen spun and whipped out his Cyan Rope. Crimson arcs of electricity suddenly appeared on its surface and erupted outward.
CRACK!
The brilliant blue arcs and the crimson lightning intertwined. The surrounding walls were blasted through, leaving a gaping hole. Zhou Xian, who had yet to fully materialize, was directly whipped apart, and ripples of energy continued to spread.
“Good heavens!” A chill ran down Sun Tai’s spine. That one attack from Younger Brother Su made his own hair stand on end. If that had hit him, he’d have been turned to charcoal, nine times out of ten.
“Watch out!” Sun Tai cried out as a thick arm formed from electrical arcs slammed down ferociously at Su Chen’s side.
In the span of a thought, the Cyan Scale Armor covering his body rapidly stacked over his shoulder. The [Wind-Thunder Barrier] formed over it, and indigo-blue elemental energy surged.
BANG!!
Su Chen was sent flying, crashing through the walls on both sides in a cloud of dust and debris.
“Brother!” Sun Tai roared, his eyes wide with fury.
“Zhou Xian!” Du Jingming finally arrived, unleashing a torrent of scorching wind that blew away the surrounding electrical arcs.
“Cough, cough…” Su Chen staggered to his feet, letting out only a few dry coughs. Compared to the last time when he was beaten until he spat blood, this time he was just sent flying and wasn’t seriously injured.
“Brother, brother…” Sun Tai hurried over and helped Su Chen up. Seeing he was all right, he breathed a sigh of relief, though he was inwardly astounded.
’If that had been me, I would have been a goner.’
’The gap between Tiers is like a chasm.’
“You’re… unharmed.” Zhou Xian’s figure gradually materialized. It was obvious that his breathing had become much more ragged.
Transforming into electricity for rapid movement clearly placed a significant strain on him.
’His arm actually grew back.’ Su Chen looked at Zhou Xian’s two perfectly intact arms.
“A fine suit of Armor…” Zhou Xian said, his eyes fixed on the cyan scales beneath Su Chen’s torn clothes. His expression grew even more furious. ’That Armor must be why he got away last time.’
’But my injuries are healed this time, and a single strike still couldn’t kill him. Could that Armor be a Tier Three item?’
“I’ll do my best to hold him off. You two run. Reinforcements should be here soon,” Du Jingming said in a low voice, staring intently at Zhou Xian as he stood in front of Su Chen and Sun Tai.
