My Servant System - Chapter 1498 - 1497: Welcome Ceremony (2)

Chapter 1498: Chapter 1497: Welcome Ceremony (2)
“I usually don’t want to say this, but Kat… you really shouldn’t be working right now, you know that right?”
Leone was standing over me as I continued scratching down combination after combination of runes to try and get the most efficient Ritual Circle for what I needed, and after watching me finish the fourth one she finally interjected with that.
Leaning back into the seat and giving myself a moment of respite, I looked up at her and asked “Why not? We’re not doing anything until later tonight anyways, so..?”, which only made the Vampire sigh as she turned and leaned against the desk.
My eyes immediately began to roam her body as she did so, something she most certainly noticed yet did nothing about as she just let out a second sigh before replying “You and I know that’s not the point, Kat.”
“Is it not? What else can I be doing right now? Besides, the sooner I get this worked out the sooner we can solve the ’issue’ about food, and the sooner that happens the quicker we can get to turning this place into whatever we dream it to be.”
“Today is meant to be a welcome celebration for our first group of citizens, yet here you are, cooped up… Why not go and mingle with them? Get to know them, socialize with them? Figure out what sort of things they want versus what they know they need, or determine what we should try and stay away from.”
I chuckled at that, saying “I kinda already did that, Leone. The old lady suggested some more space, the old man let me know they don’t have sky high expectations… it’s all just simple stuff, things that we were going to be doing anyways.”
That just made the Vampire sigh again as she asked “Kat… ’old lady’ and ’old man’ are very affectionate nicknames for who, exactly?”, which I couldn’t answer since I hadn’t caught their names… nor had I bothered to learn anyone else’s either.
“Exactly. Come on, we only have an hour or so before we have to get everything ready. Let’s just go and socialize, get to know our citizens. Even if you don’t want to actually talk with them right now, just being seen will be very helpful in the long term.”
Now it was my turn to sigh as I slumped a little in my chair, pouting up at my lover and making it abundantly clear that I didn’t want to go socialize or even leave my comfy office, but sadly for me Leone was very persuasive… in the way that just grabbing me and telling me I was going to do what she wanted counter as being ’persuasive’.
“The more they see us actually being ’normal’ people the more likely they are to accept all sorts of things from us, and the lower their expectations for certain things become. We aren’t these deific beings to them; we’re just strong, influential people that make decisions for them.”
“Politics… so boring…”
“It’s not… Hah, I suppose it technically is. Kat, it just makes things easier, alright? The more they see us being like them the less they start viewing us as more than just mortals. It’s a very documented problem with my Mom, just for your information. Though… considering what we now know, I can’t really blame people for how they view her.”
“You also are her daughter, so… y’know… you don’t really see her as the Empress and instead see her as ’Mom’. Still scary and very mysterious, but a lot less… ’I’ll burn you to a crisp if you break the law’ and more ’honey, please don’t do that.’.”
Leone just chuckled and shook her head at that, but she didn’t deny it either since we both knew it was true; emerging out into the fresh air of the ’city’, we just began to walk around and chat about this and that as the Vampire kept me from retreating back inside, and specifically she wanted me to remain down around the houses of the farmers.
It was around that time that we saw Jahi emerge from the forge looking quite satisfied with herself, meaning she had just completed her visit to Anput and gotten everything she wanted from the Jackalkin.
She made her way over to us immediately, giving us both a deep kiss that had that lingering taste of my mate to really make sure we understood how much fun they had had; Jahi kept it short though since we were in public, and to make sure we didn’t end up losing ourselves she brought us over to the two older Demons.
Kavya Beliali and Bakari Cimeriesa were the two members from the Clans that were here to stay, and immediately I found myself rather intrigued by their dynamic since Kavya was outspoken, ready to speak her mind to us without a shadow of a doubt in her mind about it being acceptable.
That was something her husband seemed to be quite sensitive too since he tried many times to stop her from asking how we were all getting along and if we were aware of the troubles that would come with carrying a Demon blooded baby, something I was actually aware of thanks to Mother.
It was amusing to see that the Beliali – a Clan renowned for their sociability and silver tongues – was the one being straightforwards and unapologetically herself while the Cimeriesa was the one trying to be polite and respectful.
The three of us didn’t mind it so Bakari reluctantly stopped attempting to rein his wife’s tongue in, while Kavya just took that as a sign to continue imparting her wisdom onto us just to make sure we really got the point.
Jahi found it extremely amusing – both shown on her face and through our bond – while Leone was mixed on it, since on one hand openly discussing how rare it was for a non Demoness to get impregnated was quite… ’embarrassing’, yet on the other Kavya actually had statistics for us, so…
Whether or not they were accurate was unknown to me, but the confidence she had when saying these things made me think she was accurate, so I didn’t bother questioning it even when she told me it might take thousands upon thousands of direct inseminations for it to finally plant a good seed…
