My Servant System - Chapter 1507 - 1506: Influx Of Wealth

Chapter 1507: Chapter 1506: Influx Of Wealth
“Many thanks for keeping us safe overnight, Lady Asmodia~! I heard all the hubbub and caught most of the battle, though I must apologize that my old bones couldn’t provide much help…”
“Mister DuMont, please, it is merely my responsibility as the host to keep all of my guests safe. No thanks are needed, but they are much appreciated. Now, what brings you down here at this time? You could have gone back to sleep, or at least waited until I wasn’t…”
I gestured vaguely at the guts and blood clinging to my arms and chest as well as the opened carcass that Kavya and I were working on, which made the pink skinned man chuckle as he replied “The early bird gets the worm, Lady Asmodia~! I’m certain you’re familiar with the term?”
A nod of agreement made his smile widen as he continued on, not minding the smell or sight whatsoever as he said “Then you should understand that I wish to be said bird, and the ’worm’ I am searching for is a good deal on these wonderful monsters. Not the meat, obviously, but the bones and pelts…
To be completely honest with you I quite enjoy the simplicity of dealing in monster parts, because no one can give a set value to them; what is useless to me has many a use to you and so on and so forth. Pelts and bones are simple ingredients that have many a use, so they have a lot of interest from everyone involved.
That boar monster over there, for example. I do believe it is called a… pardon, it might be incorrect, but I think it is a Lordtusk Boar, which if you couldn’t guess has some very wonderful tusks that are worth a fair amount of coin. Or that Colliea Hawk with the metallic feathers; those make for excellent quills, and they are amazing for wintertime cloaks.”
The merchant was quite animated despite the sun not even being up yet, and the interest he had in all of the monsters that we had killed after they found their way here was almost higher than my own, which was very reassuring.
“Whilst I am not as… quick to loosen my purse like Mister DuMont here, I do have a vested interest in most avian based monsters. They provide a wonderful breath of fresh air to the fashion of the Empire, you see, and after our beautiful Lady Presa began to dress herself in the finest my boutique had to offer many of the Nobility followed suit… meaning my purse is quite heavy.”
Mister Vanyiik still had that handkerchief held against his nose, but his attention was on me, those bright emerald eyes filled with obvious greed but also wariness, which I very much appreciated as I remained where I was.
“Then make me an offer, Mister Vanyiik. Ah, and do remember that neither you nor Mister DuMont here are ’entitled’ to anything you see; it is all mine to do with as I please, and with all these people relying on me…”
“Obviously, Lady Asmodia. For all of the feathers on that Colliea Hawk, that Cliffbeak Roc, and the Ember Tipped Eagle I am willing to pay 45 Gold. As for the Violet Talon Raptor I need only a single wings worth of feathers, for an additional 10 Gold.”
Because of the handkerchief placed over his face, I wasn’t able to read his expression completely, though Mister DuMont seemed to have taken a liking to me since he was just a step behind the man, and as such out of sight.
For the first offer he slightly shook his head, while the second he just remained motionless, which clued me in a little on what I might need to do; acting like I was thinking it over, I glanced at Kavya too while I looked at the monsters Mister Vanyiik had selected, getting another opinion on the matter.
The older Demoness was still rummaging around in the chest cavity of the other monster, but she had the ability to wrinkle her lip a little when I looked at her, which was more than enough for me to make a decision.
If both the pink skinned merchant who was definitely trying to get into my good graces was ’saying’ something that even the Demoness I had fought beside agreed with, then I was going to take that bet and believe them.
“For the lot of feathers I think 75 Gold would do, and the Violet Talon Raptor is the exact color I wanted for my wife Leone… so I think I’ll part with a wings worth for… hmm… 12 Gold? How does that sound?”
The immediate narrowing of those emerald eyes made it hard to hide a smirk, but I kept my face neutral as I waited for a reply, which only came after the man took a deep breath before grimacing since it was a breath filled with the stench of death.
That seemed to be all the reminder he needed since he just let out a sigh and said “That is more than fair, Lady Asmodia. If I may though, I can promise a return visit with something suitable for your Lady if you give me a few more feathers from the Violet Talon Raptor…”
While my immediate thought was to just tell the man to piss off and take what he had been given, the idea of having some luxury dresses to put onto Leone was almost enough to get me hard here and now, because once I got her into one I was never going to let her take it off without proper recompense.
“Very well, however if you ever return and there isn’t suitable, or you simply never return, pray that you never cross paths with me, Mister Vanyiik. You have given me high expectations… ones that I hope are met. If you have created something even Lady Presa enjoys wearing, I am certain you can do the same for her daughter… and you will be properly rewarded for such a success, I guarantee that.”
He paled a little before giving me a bow, quickly bidding me a good day and promising a return before scurrying away, which caused Mister DuMont to chuckle once he was out of earshot; the easy going nature of the pink skinned merchant was something I should be wary of, but at the same time it was that sort of ’openness’ that I tended to appreciate, especially since it seemed to be used because of what I appreciated.
“That was good, Lady Asmodia~! Now, how about another hefty purse of coin to join that first one, hm~? I want the bones from that Revenger Wolf as well as its pelt for 20 Gold, then the-”
He began to give me a list that quickly reached around 175 Gold, which was… definitely quite the influx of coin I was looking for, especially since it would help kickstart everything we had going here at the city… which was little, but we had to start somewhere.
If I could get a lot of money here and now, I could start calculating wages and setting up a small market within our community already to get the money flowing before worrying about things like taxes and the like, which was… that was going to be a whole lot of math.
