My Servant System - Chapter 1513 - 1512: Doing Alright

Chapter 1513: Chapter 1512: Doing Alright
“That’s quite the agenda, isn’t it?”
Nirinia’s assessment of the situation made me chuckle as I nodded in agreement, looking over the renewed plans for the city alongside the small list that Jahi had scribbled out on a loose piece of paper.
“Ice storage for all sorts of foodstuffs… Y’know, if we didn’t have you as an Ice Mage, that could easily run us hundreds upon hundreds of Gold, and that’s just to make it. Maintaining something like that – of this size, anyways – is insane.”
“I figured. All of the things I learned during our incredibly short time at the Academy made it abundantly clear that Water Mages already are rare in the Empire, but Ice Mages are like myths here. The seldom few that exist are probably all up in the Duchy of Blizzards, which just means they aren’t accessible for anyone at all.”
The Djinn nodded and crossed her arms as she continued to study the map, committing it to memory before she began to walk towards the location of our ice storage, which would be in the center of the city near the Merchant Hall.
The reasoning given to us was that it would serve as city wide storage and not just for the rich, so giving it that sort of accessibility and visibility would help morale… or something like that; honestly I was just subscribing myself to the mindset that Jahi was going to do the people planning and I was just going to worry about our family, so… yeah.
“Do you really think this place could store food for the entire city? I’m just trying to think of the logistics, and it… kinda works, I think..?”
“Depending on the cuts of meat stored, shelving efficiency and overall space utilization efficiency… I mean, it’s possible. She wants it to be about three stories tall, and we’re also meant to excavate two floors down, so…
That’s a lot of space to store foodstuffs. Really what we need to be worried about is a constant, never ending Ritual Circle keeping everything chilled, which is way more difficult… but it is doable, just with a lot of tinkering.”
“Well then, how about keeping it stocked?”
“Let’s just hope the Dungeon never decides to shut itself down for some reason.”
I gave her a shrug and moved to begin marking out the area with her, measuring everything out and working slowly and methodically as I just enjoyed the warmth of the sun and the peaceful day, knowing that it was going to only get more and more hectic as the days passed.
And pass they did; we got the rest of the lodgings built up for the farmers before this week was out, we got the merchants their gifts and received promises of their return as well as some extra coin from Anput and Leone’s extra work, and we also got the roads more structured and paved where they needed to be.
The fields were coming along just great, with the farmers now working with the understanding that sometime soon – at the start of the next month, perhaps – they would be working for a wage and not just food, though there was a bit of a need to negotiate there as they asked for clarification.
Was the food no longer ’free’, would they need to buy it with their new coin, where were they meant to store it and what guarantee did they have that it was not only actual coin but that it would actually remain theirs after being stored away..?
All sorts of questions arose the moment Jahi attempted to start paying them, but they were all legitimate and understandable questions, so I did my best to help her where I thought I could before just shrugging and offering the Demoness a conciliatory blowjob here or there whenever she seemed stressed.
With the physical side of the city doing rather well it only made sense for the social side to start experiencing minor hiccups, but these were – at least to me – the kind of hiccups that were good to have since they brought up questions Jahi wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
Solving them when there were less people here just made things less stressful, though I began to hold back on gloating in front of her whenever she was stuck behind her desk for long hours trying to solve everything…
During this week we had another group of monsters rush at us, though this one wasn’t as large as the previous one; it still provided fresh meat and good materials that we were in desperate need of, which also spurred me on to get at least a single floor of the ice storage operable immediately.
The shell of the building was mostly constructed, so I worked on the first floor and began to work on the spell to keep it at a low temperature for the rest of time, which meant incorporating excellent ventilation, air flow, temperature reflection, temperature control and so much more… all in a single spell.
Now I had my own long hours of work, where I was joined by many of the Cimeriesa Demons as we all worked together to get this finished, since the meat was filling up the storage bracelets and not allowing us to store anything else.
If we had another horde of monsters come at us we would end up in a bit of a situation, and the idea of either gorging ourselves on food now or letting it go to waste almost made me sick, so I tried my damndest to get it done.
All the while Anput started churning out the equipment that the farmers needed as well as her own personal projects while Leone made sure to keep everyone healthy and in shape with her potions, which she put into the tea at every meal we had as a community.
With another week down I felt that things were going quite well, though the work was beginning to chew away at the hours that I wanted to spend doing glorious noting as I danced around my big, empty home enjoying the quiet freedom we now had… so I was really trying to work hard…
