Chapter 1562: Chapter 1561: Arrangements

Kat PoV

When the large hunting party returned I was somewhat surprised by how relieved I was when Jahi walked up to me, my mind and body relaxing despite me not knowing that I had been tense this entire time.

Even with her cloak and armor being somewhat caked in grime and gore I still clung to her tightly, and after a few moments of a much needed embrace I found it impossible to not drag in a breath and tell her that I had felt something inside of me whilst she had been away.

That brief flash of jealousy in her eyes wasn’t something I missed, but when it was followed up by genuine excitement and positivity I found it hard to feel anything about said jealousy, just basking in her warmth instead.

I had told Anput as well of course, and my mate had jumped around before giving me a deep kiss whilst admitting that the Sultana had told her a little while ago, though hearing it first hand was definitely far more impactful and ’real’ than being told by someone else.

Divvying up the monsters between our family and the city took only a little bit of time, and by the time the carcasses had been split and sent away we were back inside the house gathering around the table to relax and chat once again.

That was where Lady Kio decided to drop the bomb on us all as she informed us “I’ve decided that until all of the babies are born, I’ll remain here, so long as I am welcome, of course..?”, earning an immediate ’discussion’ between the four of us as we all wordlessly looked at one another.

Anput’s wry smile and Jahi’s pursed lips told me all I needed to know, and while part of me felt that living with this woman would be a bit… much, I couldn’t help but also remind myself that she was Anput’s Mother and that she would have a fair amount of experience, though…

“Kio… I don’t think that is possible.”

The petite Dogkin’s fur bristled as she glared at her wife, who was slowly running a finger around the cusp of her teacup while looking down at the table; I felt a bit of a headache forming immediately since this situation was exactly the sort that would have Lady Kio exploding, yet the Sultana had chosen her words carefully.

“As much as I would love to be able to stay here and be with our daughter as she goes through with this, that sadly isn’t something we can afford to do. Not only do I still need to manage the entirety of the Sultanate, but there are the rest of our children waiting for us back home.”

Lady Kio seemed like she wanted to explode still before slumping down and nodding reluctantly, though that just made it all too easy for me to say “Just because you can’t stay doesn’t mean you can’t come back frequently. This might be a bit… forwards of me, but Empress, are the Transportation Circles still not up and running?”

That comment made the Empress pause as she turned her head towards me slightly, though thankfully before I could feel like I had made a mistake saying that the older Vampire beside her took a sip of her tea after saying “They should be functional now, and that was one of the pieces of discussion we wished to bring forwards before we departed.”

Now the Empress was turning towards her wife, only to shrug her shoulders and say “I was thinking of having the network extended now that we have more of a reason to expand it. The Fiends are still lurking around, and the Labyrinthian has revealed some ’secrets’ after your expedition. With it we could visit here daily if we so chose…”

Placing her teacup down and smiling over at Lady Kio, Lady Lorelei continued on, saying “And with that we could establish one at either Lekintrad or Borivyre to connect with the Palace, cutting down transportation by quite a large margin for our friends from the desert.”

“This uh… includes fixing up the Transportation Circle located within the March Asmodia, correct?”

Mom interjected after a moment and looked towards the Empress and her wife hopefully, earning herself a small smile from Lady Lorelei as she smoothly added “And we would be fixing up most of the Transportation Circles around the Empire, yes.”

I pursed my lips at that, wondering how fascinating life would become with that since the idea of being able to visit most parts of the Empire within a single day was definitely intriguing, though at the same time…

“Pardon me for this, I will admit I completely forgot about them being somewhat… damaged… but when did we acquire the ability to create new Transportation Circles? Are they not pieces of Space Magic that require someone to use Space Magic?”

Both the Empress and Lady Lorelei just stared at me, with the Vampire giving me that same smile as she just kept quiet, causing me to just nod as I shrugged and said “Well, whatever. If that’s something that can happen that would be rather nice. It cuts down on everything for everyone here…”

“That it would. We would be able to come and go rather freely, and it would mean that any splendid news coming from here would reach us far quicker. It also would be reassuring to know that we can visit one another just like that, hm?”

We all nodded in agreement to that, though the idea of having our families just popping up at random throughout the day was a bit… it was certainly an idea to mull over, that’s for certain, and I held back the urge to ask if this Transportation Circle would be located in the house or not since that would mean we would need to… plan around it.

Either way though it was actually reassuring and quite nice to hear about, and considering how much I did want them here when the time came but not during everything between – to a certain degree, anyways – this would do wonderfully.
