My Servant System - Chapter 1572 - 1571: Just How It Goes

Chapter 1572: Chapter 1571: Just How It Goes
Having a rain of explosive fireballs constantly peppering the area around me was beyond nice, and although a few of them were rather close I was still very happy to have Leone’s support this entire time… even if she was making her displeasure known with those occasional near misses.
The monsters were never lucky enough for Leone’s ordinance to miss, however, so all around me there were charred corpses that were torn apart from the blasts, their flesh blackened and cooked already.
It would likely have smelt amazing if they hadn’t been releasing stomach acid, various acidic or poisonous substances, and their furs and hairs that were laden with grease were lit aflame constantly…
Even then there was still this underlying scent of cooked meat that made me fight even harder since that was a promise for what was to come, especially since it had already been a handful of minutes down here in the thick of it.
It was just an endless horde of monsters that were smashing themselves face first against our walls hoping to break inside, and it was quite the event to be a part of as chaos took over this area completely.
Shouts, snarls, howls and so much more filled the air as mortals clashed with monsters, the singing of steel and whistling of arrows or spells occupying the remaining fringes of your hearing just to make sure everything was truly chaotic.
For me it was wonderful to have around me, allowing me to take all this pent up energy and aggression and put it towards something that wouldn’t get me in too much trouble, but for most of my people this wasn’t an ideal situation.
Already I could tell that we had lost a few people, and there were more injured on top of that, so although I was feeling somewhat elated by this my emotions were tempered by that realization, which weighed on me like leaden cloak.
The responsibility that I had taken upon assuming the mantle of being a City Lord was one that would never feel as real as it did during these moments, though it was the perfect reminder for me as I shifted my fighting style just a little bit.
Instead of being as aggressive as I had been I planted my feet and began to act as the bastion for all of my people to rally around; I was still somewhat ahead of the main line and very much in the thick of everything, but I was no longer straining the line as much as I had been, which was likely why those fireballs had been getting closer and closer recently…
With that the tides began to shift ever so slightly once more, and now I was being supported by even more spears and halberds as my troops moved forwards, bringing the fight to the enemy and offering them something they couldn’t resist… even as hell rained down upon them.

Somehow someway we managed to tune out the glittering explosions of the various spells being slung as we focused more on Kavya, and while I certainly could feel my attention shifting ever so slightly it was still primarily on her.
I could also feel the various shifts in Jahi’s emotions that constantly had my heart on edge, but listening to Kavya regale us with the tale of Bakari getting just a little too deep into his cups was a bit too amusing to not focus on.
“As I am certain you both are aware, the way liquor affects people is impossible to know, especially when its being first witnessed in a more public, uncontrolled space; things get harder to manage, people start drinking harder things when you aren’t looking… that sort of stuff, y’know?”
Anput and I both nodded, with the Jackalkin being somewhat aware of it but not having been anywhere to really see it whilst I was all too familiar with it since… well, humans getting plastered was something I was very acquainted with and something I had done many a time, just in a past life…
Having all those thoughts flitting around my brain was very helpful right now, and it helped ease the mild sense of unease that was coiling around my midriff as the stress melted away somewhat, something that Kavya seemed to catch as she directed her smile at me for a few moments before continuing.
“With how quiet he normally is I was worried he’d get rowdy or whatnot, but what happened instead was him getting this… surge of confidence and an extra helping of arrogance that definitely did not mesh well together.
As you’ve seen him now I can assure you that he was twice as handsome back then, albeit with the charm that only youth can provide… and he was also oozing that scholarly vibe even back then, so when he tried to get close to a few of the cuties at the bar, well… things went a bit interesting.
They liked looking at him but that sort of aura tends to turn people off since they piece the arrogance and scholarly vibe together as someone being full of themselves because they were smart, which… was the case with Bakari. He tried to explain complex magical theorem to a bunch of random girls thinking it’d impress them… and it didn’t.”
“Mm… If I was at a bar and a cute girl came up to me talking about some niche and smart thing I might just be flattered thinking she sees me as someone with a little bit of smarts~!”
I rolled my eyes at my mate yet kept quiet because honestly… it would work for me too, if only because I would be far too curious to turn people away immediately without at least giving it a listen, especially if I could still drink as they yapped constantly.
“Eh, well, apparently these people just wanted to get hammered, flirt and then make their way into a bed for some quick fun… I kept an eye on him as he tried his hardest to ’flirt’ with these girls, watched as they all left him at the bar, and definitely didn’t feel elated that he seemed so deflated because of their ’rejections’.”
Kavya was smirking at that, her eyes gleaming like a predator’s as she continued her story even as more and more explosions destroyed the lands outside of our walls, and although that was somewhat of a cause for concern the monsters were slowly beginning to thin out, at least ever so slowly.
Still more than enough time for a story, but also having my brain slowly begin to calculate the numbers in the ’background’ as I continued to listen to Kavya, which had me somewhat ’impressed’ as I realized it was definitely a few thousand… which should mean quite the profit~!
