Chapter 1585: Chapter 1584: Installation (3)
Since we had an additional guest eating with us today that also happened to have an almost bottomless appetite I knew that I was going to have to whip up quite the spread for all of our upcoming meals, which in turn meant a long time spent in the kitchen.
That was something that would have once irked me to no end since the idea of toiling away in a kitchen for so long just to try and figure out which ingredients I still had leftover might work well enough together to make a meal was just not one that seemed all that feasible with my lifestyle.
Cooking was only ’fun’ for me whenever I either had an abundance of ingredients to choose from and could make something interesting or make a hell of a lot of something, or whenever I was cooking for someone else.
That was where my enjoyment for cooking came from, and nowadays I spent every single day cooking for everyone else, though with the pregnancy my enjoyment had shifted to be more selfish since I was so hungry all the time.
And if I wasn’t able to assuage my ’hunger’ for passion and intimacy, then I was damn certain that I was going to assuage my real hunger whenever and however I wanted, which right now was looking to be giant slabs of meat with a side of pasta.
A simple go to meal that required little effort since a butter and herb mixture braised the meat just right after it was cooked how I liked it – medium, with enough of it cooked that I didn’t cringe looking at it but still pink enough that it was juicy – and worked with the little seasoning that I sprinkled atop the meat whilst it was cooking.
Pasta was just always a nice addition to any meal since it was so versatile and so filling, but for today I did go the extra step to make a creamy red sauce that would complement the red meat rather nicely, and for those of us that could drink a nice glass of – surprise – red wine would round things out perfectly.
I was in the midst of peeling off the now boiled skins of the tomatoes in the pot when someone entered the kitchen, catching me off guard slightly since the sheer presence of them was ’familiar’ yet the scent was not one that I expecting.
Of course it was Lady Fenyras who silently crept into the kitchen, staring at me with an obvious hunger that she could always feign as being for the meal, and immediately the heat that had already gathered from the cooking provided the ’perfect cover’ for the heat she was feeling.
“They’re still in discussion about the viability of that dug out area that you suggested… If I heard correctly, they want to turn it into a park or garden of sorts that people can relax in, away from the sun… I don’t particularly care about any of that since it’s all beneath your jurisdiction, but what I do care about is this… and this…”
She stepped up to me and gently rested her hand on the counter near me, her eye raking over my body before resting on my belly as she nodded slightly to herself, though again she provided herself a nice ’cover’ as she wiggled the now empty bottle of wine at me.
“In the pantry.”
My tone was clipped and I kept my words sparse, not trusting them currently when her metallic scent washed over me and made my blood run; it was a mixed and odd feeling, because on the one hand my body was rejecting it thanks to the pups, but on the other my body was also reminding me of that instinct that I never really managed to chase away…
Strength beyond my current abilities was right there, laden with a coiled promise of ecstasy if I decided to accept her offer whatsoever… and yet despite the instincts telling me that this was a very worthy mate for me, I swallowed down all of that and tried to ignore her.
“I was surprised when they told me you got bred so early. It makes sense, obviously; any Caninekin would be breeding you daily if they had you, but I just wasn’t expecting it anytime soon. That damn Asmodia brat is beyond lucky that she managed to snag you before anyone else had the chance…”
With that she stepped into the pantry and grabbed two bottles of wine, uncorking one and shaking her head as she looked me up and down again before she leaned against the counter and began to tell me about some of the specifics of the Transportation Circle, things that I wasn’t certain on whether I should know them or not.
“That marble, by the way, is something that you lot are going to have to take care of. And obviously I don’t mean by just keeping it clean and making sure nobody takes a crack at it or something. No, you’re all going to have to provide it sustenance. Mana Crystals preferably, but Cores would work too.
In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, taking someone and or something and moving it great distances requires a lot of mana, and it also doesn’t happen ’suddenly’. There is a little bit of force that is exerted upon the transportation, and whilst it is dampened by the Circle itself the structure you stand on gets rattled. The extra mana provides extra ’cushioning’.”
Even as she explained those things I could still feel her eyes being glued to my rear as I continued cooking, and whilst I wanted to shout at her to get out the Demon Wolf was lounging here sipping our wine lazily, knowing that there was only one person who could get her to move… and she was on the couch in the other room.
Not that her free ’show’ lasted that long since Lady D’Arcon noticed her silver eyed idiot was missing, so when the conversation moved into the dining area the Demon Wolf was dragged away, but not before she flashed me a little smirk as she left the last of our ’conversation’ fresh in my mind with a look down towards the ’extra cushioning’.
When the food was ready she did ’just so happen’ to get the more charred piece of steak, and there might have also been a leftover stem or two inside of her sauce that she very clearly noticed when she was mid bite, yet she didn’t say anything about it as she just fixed that silver eye on me from over the table.
