Chapter 1590: Chapter 1589: Learning Experience (3)
“I’m probably not the best to ask about these sorts of things since I’ve only ever had one pup, but from what I remember from growing up, the answer to that question is yes. Pups tend to operate on bursts of energy for quite a long while, and they also sleep for a long time.”
Nodding, I continued walking slowly beside Mother as we took a few moments to enjoy the peace together outside, leaving the shouting Lady Kio behind as she and her daughter ’argued’ some more about what Anput did or didn’t do as a pup.
“How different was I compared to what you were expecting?”
I asked that partially because I was curious to see if she had noticed that I wasn’t the ’Kat’ she had actually given birth to, but all that did was make Mother chuckle quietly as she squeezed my hand and looked up towards the darkening sky.
“You were small for a pup, and you clung to me at every turn. I was actually worried that you might be too small and too ’lonely’ to grow properly, but all the doctors that Chordeva brought in promised me you would be alright.
Those nights for the first year or so were stressful, but only because I kept seeing how small you were – adorable and precious, but so very small – and found it impossible to not worry, though after that first year you began to grow finally.
You were quiet and rather ’aware’ of how vulnerable you were, so you tended to beg to stay on my shoulders or slung against my chest, even going as far as to whine whenever I tried to get you to walk around.
Then there was the fascination you had with just watching everything happen. Never wanting to be a part of anything, just… watching. I carried you to and from each room, setting you on someplace secure yet high enough up that you could see everything, and you would just sit there, watching me.”
She turned and smiled as she poked my cheek with her free hand, sinking her finger softly into my cheek before she brushed her thumb under my eye as she added “And ever since you’ve just kept growing and watching, haven’t you?”
Her eyes flicked down for a moment, where I had undoubtedly taken after her completely and perhaps even ’overtaken’ her – even as we both had grown bigger thanks to the pregnancies – before they returned to my face, which was slightly red from that quiet addition.
“With five all at once you should have your hands full, yes, but where I had to keep my eye on you constantly and personally wear you down to finally take a nap, they will have one another to do so. Turn one of these rooms into a cushioned den with those soft pillow bag things and just let them play.
I think you would be surprised at just how independently dependent they are going to be. You aren’t just giving birth to five pups, Katherine. You’re going to be giving birth to a pack. They are going to rely on one another primarily, because that is their instinct. They know you and Anput are their parents and the head of the pack, but they innately understand that they are the ’body’ where you two are the ’head’ and ’heart’.”
That description was just something that wasn’t going to be truly understood until it happened, but being told once again that this was going to be so much different from what I was expecting was just… interesting to me.
I was still thinking about how raising babies worked back in my old world that this was just… interesting, and honestly somewhat refreshing; knowing that I might not have to go through everything that I was aware of from Human pregnancies was soothing somewhat, albeit with that caveat that I was now going to pop five out at once instead of just one.
“Mother, do you ever wish that you could have had more pups..? Instead of an Elf and a Demoness however many times over.”
She pursed her lips and looked at the sky again for a few seconds, mulling it over and squeezing my hand again before she murmured “Yes, I do, but it comes more from a place of instinct than of desire. Knowing that I’ll never have a litter again is disheartening, but Alessandra and Lakshmi are adorable and perfect little girls, so that ache isn’t as sharp as it could be.”
Mother turned to me and added “In that regard I am jealous of you somewhat, Katherine. It’s a unique feeling, being pregnant with pups. It’s different than what Anput is feeling right now, I can tell you that. Similar but not quite the same.”
That immediately reminded me of what she had gone through with Alessandra and Lakshmi, and like she knew what I was thinking she shook her head and said “It won’t be exactly like what I went through. Twins sired from two separate futanari as powerful as them would be ’terrible’ for anyone. And honestly, if it happens to any of you you’ll likely do better than I did simply because you are stronger.”
I hummed and nodded, looking up towards the darkening sky and savoring the orange and violet sea above us for a few seconds more, only to smile wryly when we heard “HEY! WHAT’RE YOU TWO DOING?!” coming from the house.
Glancing over our shoulders, we saw Lady Kio storming towards us from across the yard, and we couldn’t help but chuckle when we saw Lyra in her arms, wiggling around and ’slapping’ her Mother repeatedly, all while Anput laughed from a few steps away.
“And I think you’ve already noticed how well children react to you… You’ll be fine, Katherine, I promise.”
With that she placed a kiss on my temple before waving me aside as she stepped up to Lady Kio, ignoring the woman and taking Lyra from her with a smirk as she cradled the pup to her chest, using her as a shield and further enraging the woman.
A new fight was sparked between them, and yet the thing that had my attention the most was Anput as she slid beside me, one hand on my stomach whilst the other slid around my hip ’dangerously’, yet that was just what I was used to when it came to my mate.
“Y’know, I was thinking… Maybe I convince Jahi that you giving me two litters immediately would be the best course of action… because right now, I just can’t imagine not being all over you with every single passing second…”
I pushed her away gently and gave her a small smile before moving to placate Lady Kio a bit, though that was a lost cause with Lyra snuggling against Mother’s chest as the pup got really comfortable rather quickly.
