My Werewolf System - Chapter 1791 The Decoy

Chapter 1791 The Decoy
Would the three ancient vampires take the time to carefully scout out the situation beforehand? Would they hide in the shadows to calculate exactly how much their enemy possessed in sheer numbers?
The definitive answer for the three aristocratic leaders was no. They had consciously chosen to bypass stealth for a number of pragmatic reasons. Full-blooded Werewolves were incredibly dangerous predators; there was no doubt about that in their minds. Whether the vampires deeply disliked the canine race or not, their raw physical strength was an undeniable truth they had to respect. It was exactly why they couldn’t just recklessly attempt to wipe out the entire species, knowing full well the catastrophic, apocalyptic scale of the war that would have inevitably taken place.
However, today’s specific situation was entirely different. They weren’t going up against a true Alpha and its fiercely loyal, coordinated pack. Furthermore, based on their brutal interrogation earlier, they were relatively confident that they weren’t dealing with the mysterious, overarching mastermind known as Unzoku here either.
All they had to deal with today was Midwak—a rogue who was just a stray member of the Howlers that had gone off the leash. Three of the most powerful vampire leaders should, at the very least, be able to easily deal with that much resistance. And in the absolute worst-case scenario where things went terribly wrong, their supernatural speed guaranteed they would have to escape, and they were supremely confident that they could outrun anything in this city.
Inside the perimeter of the old White Rose base, the environment was a graveyard of shattered concrete and twisted metal. The Glutton Werewolves were lumbering over the towering piles of debris, taking heavy, thudding steps as they almost aimlessly wandered around their claimed territory.
While there were a few that were lying lazily on the ground, slumped against ruined walls, the vast majority of the Gluttons were spread out on patrol throughout different sections of the compound. Some of them were gathered inside the more structurally sound, standing buildings of the base. A few of the mutated beasts were even perched high up in the dead branches of the few trees that were still standing tall amidst the wreckage.
However, they were almost always moving in tight clusters of five. And the specific pack of five that was currently hanging out guarding the front entrance was in for quite the lethal surprise.
Dropping directly from the sky, Jin crashed like a meteor right into the absolute center of the group. The moment his boots cracked the pavement, he aggressively spun his body.
Razor-sharp blood droplets whipped out from his fingertips in every direction. As the crimson liquid made contact with the surrounding beasts, sharp detonations went off. The kinetic blasts hit all of the monsters simultaneously, sending them flying backward through the air until they crashed into the surrounding rubble.
Large chunks of their matted fur and mutated muscle structure had been completely torn off by the explosion, but even then, the explosive blood attacks weren’t quite enough to kill them instantly. Growling in pure fury, the Gluttons started to push themselves up off the ground, their eyes locking onto Jin.
At the exact same time, the echoing boom of the explosions had successfully caught the attention of several other packs. Those that were stationed nearby immediately abandoned their posts. A growing horde of them began rushing forward, bounding aggressively across the broken ground directly toward Jin.
As the first wave of reinforcements leaped into the air, glowing red strings materialized from the shadows. The crimson aura whipped forward, tightly wrapping around nearly all of the beasts’ legs mid-jump. The strings abruptly pulled taut, ripping the heavy bodies right out of the air and ruthlessly flinging them off to the side, sending them crashing into a brick wall.
One particular Werewolf was purposely pulled by the aura string right toward Haylock. As the beast flew toward him, Haylock completely cloaked his hand in swirling, dense red aura. Stepping into the strike, he shoved his fist forward with terrifying force. His arm punched cleanly straight through the Glutton’s thick skull, dropping the monster instantly.
“I really don’t think using your loud explosion powers right at the front gate was a particularly brilliant tactical idea, Jin. Now absolutely all of them are rushing towards us,” Haylock sighed, shaking the gore from his hand.
Without missing a beat, Haylock used his aura to tie up another incoming Glutton by its throat. He swung the thrashing beast high into the air directly toward Jin.
Jin calmly aimed his index finger at the flying target. He channeled his inner essence, forming a highly condensed ‘blood bullet’ at his fingertip. This specific technique utilized a concentrated form of pure blood aura; it was so potent that it actually did quite a bit of internal damage to the user as well upon firing, but thankfully, Jin possessed the regenerative capabilities to heal from the toll.
In Jin’s experienced hands, though, the blood bullet was an incredibly lethal execution method. He fired. The crimson projectile streaked through the air. As soon as it entered the roaring Werewolf’s open mouth, Jin triggered it. The bullet detonated deep inside the beast’s throat, catastrophically shredding its internal organs and completely bypassing its strong outer physical resilience. The monster went entirely limp, falling to the ground like a stone.
“Well, it was Rowa who strictly ordered us to make a loud, flashy scene at the front gates so he can safely locate the main target and deal with him,” Jin reasoned. “Hopefully, we can finish this tedious extermination quickly and get back. I always get incredibly nervous when I’m away from the family for this long.”
“Haha!” Haylock laughed, effortlessly dodging a feral swipe from a charging beast. “It’s the exact opposite for me! I always love having new, thrilling stories to tell whenever I visit home. One day, I truly hope I can sit down and tell all of these glorious war stories to my grandson!”
“The theoretical grandson that you don’t even have yet? You are certainly hoping for a lot,” Jin smirked, raising his hands as his aura flared.
The two ancient vampires now stood perfectly back-to-back. The ground was trembling. For some reason, it felt like there were significantly more Gluttons swarming the courtyard now than when they first started their assault, and in a way, they were entirely right. Their explosive fighting had successfully caused a vast majority of the compound’s feral guards to abandon their posts and converge on their position.
Meanwhile, as everyone was frantically running toward the chaotic noise at the gates, Rowa was moving like an absolute ghost in the opposite direction.
Slipping silently toward the very center of the ruined compound, Rowa flared his heightened senses. He completely ignored the mindless grunts, specifically searching for the one oppressive, commanding aura.
Stepping out from the dark shadow of a collapsed watchtower, Rowa finally found his prey. He was calmly looking at a lone man standing amidst the destruction, completely unbothered by the alarms, wearing a distinctly out-of-place Hawaiian shirt.
Rowa’s red eyes narrowed, and he bared his fangs.
“I’m guessing you’re Midwak.”
