My Werewolf System - Chapter 1796 The True Power Of a Vampire Family

Chapter 1796 The True Power Of a Vampire Family
For a moment, the fight had genuinely seemed to get easier for the group. With the others having finally arrived to provide much-needed backup, the pressure on the front lines had lifted. But seemingly, it also appeared that the sheer level of the enemies that were appearing from the shadows was now getting harder for them to face as well.
The regular Glutton Werewolves already possessed a massively high level of resilience, making them tough to put down. However, these new ones were showing signs of having additional forms or powers. This terrifying ability led all of the fighters to suffer from quite a few surprise attacks that they couldn’t easily predict.
Jin, even as incredibly fast as he was with his heightened vampiric reactions, his blood aura, and his explosive powers, had still suffered a couple of deep scratches on his arms and across his face. It was nothing too severe yet, but he knew exactly what those wounds meant, even for someone like him. Werewolf scratches didn’t heal easily, and the lingering pain was a constant distraction.
What was far worse, though, was that entirely different, mutated types of Werewolves were now starting to appear on the battlefield.
For Jin, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly saw something move through the air as fast as a whip. He just barely managed to lift his hand in time to block the incoming blur from hitting him squarely in the face. But instead of a blunt impact, the strange object wrapped tightly around his forearm several times, locking him in place.
“Is this a tongue?” Jin questioned in disgust.
When Jin looked closer at the attacking Werewolf, he saw that it was indeed a grotesquely long Werewolf’s tongue. Worse yet, the tongue appeared to be coated in some type of special, highly acidic substance. He could literally feel the corrosive saliva melting his expensive clothes away and burning directly into his skin.
Quickly, Jin flared his blood aura and exploded his powers right at the point of contact. The violent blast had successfully disintegrated the horrific tongue into pieces, forcing the beast to reel back. However, because they were in such close proximity, the explosion had partly blown up right in Jin’s own face, slightly damaging him as well and leaving his ears ringing.
As he looked ahead through the smoke, his eyes widened. He could see that the severed tongue of the Werewolf was almost instantly starting to reform and grow back from its mouth. He wasn’t completely sure if he was just imagining it in the heat of battle or not, but the mutated Glutton actually seemed to have a devious, mocking smile plastered on its face.
“Why are our jobs always getting harder?” Jin commented, wiping a smear of blood from his cheek. Because he didn’t just need to figure out how to deal with these highly dangerous, special Gluttons; he still had to fend off all of the regular ones that they were currently fighting against as well. The sheer numbers were overwhelming.
Thankfully, the ones that were successfully dealing with the vast majority of the regular Gluttons pushing the front line were Innu and Haylock.
Surprisingly, the two of them were working rather well together as a team. With their combined efforts, Innu could entirely focus his attention on attacking fiercely from a close range with his weapons, while Haylock acted as the perfect support, protecting him by using his aura strings to pull the other attacking beasts away.
At certain times, Haylock would even use his strings to violently swing an airborne enemy right in front of Innu. The added momentum and force of the flying Werewolves allowed the teenager to use his heavy axes rather well, cleanly slicing through them with devastating power.
In one specific case in particular, Innu’s axe had landed with a sickening crunch right in the center of a Glutton’s head. But before he could even struggle to pry the blade loose from the bone, it was Haylock who swiftly stepped in and pulled the weapon out using his glowing red string attached to the handle.
Taking control of the weapon, the ancient vampire then violently swung the heavy axe around in a wide, sweeping circle. The sharp blade cut deeply into flesh and hit several of the other Gluttons that were hungrily coming too close to their defensive position, forcing the pack to back off.
That was before Innu quickly used his own unique abilities to recall the weapon, bringing the bloodied red axe flying right back into his waiting hand.
“Hey, did I ever give you permission to use my axe?” Innu said, glaring at the vampire as he readied his stance again. “And here I thought you guys from the vampire families were the ones that constantly talked about humans being completely useless?”
Despite the banter, Innu was huffing and panting significantly harder than he was before. The reality was that he was quickly getting tired. He trained incredibly hard every single day to keep up with the monsters around him, but he was still just a human in the end. He wasn’t like the Altereds or the vampires, and his body simply couldn’t recover its stamina as quickly as theirs could.
“Accept my offer, young one,” Haylock said smoothly, not taking his eyes off the surrounding horde. “Our enemies are far too many in number to simply outlast. And right now, the both of us are only doing this well because we are able to effectively fight together as a single unit.
“But if you tire out and fall, then it will be exceptionally bad for the both of us!” To emphasize his point, Haylock suddenly jumped up and forcefully slammed a leaping Werewolf hard into the ground. Right after the beast hit the concrete, Innu followed up the combination, landing heavily with both of his red axes driving right into the top of its head, ending its life.
“You said earlier that you want to use your vampire powers on me. You actually want to control my movements with those weird strings!” Innu argued, pulling his weapons free. “That’s essentially leaving me completely vulnerable to trust you with my own life! You’re literally saying to let you control my body like a puppet!”
Right then, a hidden Werewolf lunged from the blind spot and violently swiped its sharp claws directly at Innu’s exposed neck. Before the teenager could even react to the lethal danger, thick red strings had instantly wrapped around Innu’s waist and forcefully pulled him back, cleanly saving him from being hit and having his throat torn out.
“If I wanted you dead, I wouldn’t be constantly trying to save your life out here,” Haylock pointed out calmly, releasing the string. “And you should know full well that if we continue to fight exactly like this, with you draining your energy, then it will soon be a very big issue for both of us.”
Innu gritted his teeth in immense frustration. He hated to admit it, but he knew the vampire was absolutely right. As much as he desperately wanted to stand on his own two feet and help the others, and despite how incredibly hard he had worked to bridge the massive gap in their power levels, a drawn-out, exhaustive fight like this against an endless horde of monsters was a losing battle. Even with his special infused axes that could subtly help him restore bits of his energy, this simply wasn’t the ideal situation for a human fighter to be in.
“Fine!” Innu yelled, making his final decision. He aggressively slammed both of his heavy axes into the ground, using the last remaining reserves of his explosive power. The concrete ground was violently torn up by the impact, sending shockwaves that caused the Werewolves that were close by to be startled and back away for just a crucial second.
Using the brief opening, Innu jumped back, putting some necessary distance between himself and the snarling beasts.
“Alright, just do whatever it is you do with those strings… but I promise you right now, if you try to pull any funny stuff while I’m tied up, Gary will do absolutely everything he can to take you down permanently!” Innu warned, pointing a tired finger at the vampire leader.
“Don’t worry about that. After seeing what he is capable of, I wouldn’t want to make that particular Alpha my enemy regardless,” Haylock said with a slight, knowing smirk.
He then stretched out both of his pale hands toward the teenager. Immediately, several glowing red threads shot out from his fingertips. They started to quickly move and intricately intertwine around the different parts of Innu’s body, securing his limbs and his core.
Within the vampire society, the Thirteenth Family were widely known and feared for their unique, string-like ability. When coating the ethereal strings in their own potent blood aura, they gained an even finer, absolute control over the threads. It made them incredibly powerful, versatile tools that could easily be used in various deadly ways on the battlefield, whether for trapping enemies or slicing through armor.
But the true, terrifying strength of the Thirteenth Family only truly shined when they had a willing—or unwilling—puppet to actively control in combat. And as the red strings locked firmly into place around Innu’s muscles, Haylock was finally ready to show everyone exactly what the real, devastating strength of the Thirteenth Family looked like.
