Chapter 475: Chapter 469 Straightforward Enough
“Jiani, can you take me out for a walk?” Jin Wenhan moves his wheelchair closer to Wei Jiani, who had just entered the room. His face bore an unusual softness, unlike his mother’s, perhaps more like his father’s. So, his facial features are naturally elegant.
“Sure,” Wei Jiani rushes over to help push his wheelchair outside.
Once outside, the cold early winter wind brushes against their faces, sending prickles of cold up their cheeks.
“Jiani, thank you.”
“If not for you, my legs might have been ruined. Thank you for performing the surgery,” Jin Wenhan, who had been unconscious at the time, remembered someone saying they’d need to amputate his legs and he’d become handicapped. But when he woke up, he still had his legs, and the doctor in lab coat was standing there.
The doctor was Wei Jiani.
Wei Jiani holds Jin Wenhan’s hand, but shrinks back slightly at the look in his eyes.
Because she hasn’t confessed. She was present during the surgery, but she didn’t perform it. When she heard that Tang Yuxin was coughing up blood, she almost wished Tang Yuxin would just die.
Yet some have a strong will to live.
However, she did manage to achieve one good thing: Jin Wenhan now trusts her completely. He believes she saved his life, and Wei Jiani has never denied it. Nobody else has, either.
Wei Jiani even had the notion of becoming Mrs. Jin, but Jin Wenhan’s mother seems like a formidable figure. Would she be able to get her approval?
Yet, looking at the handsome man bathed in sunlight in the wheelchair, Wei Jiani realizes she wants him more than ever.
“Let’s go for a check-up,” Wei Jiani starts pushing Jin Wenhan’s wheelchair towards the examination room. His legs have been embedded with steel pins for almost four months now, and it’s time for them to be taken out.

But after looking at the X-ray, Wei Jiani frowns. How on earth would they remove the countless pins without cutting open Jin Wenhan’s leg, leaving a massive scar that could hinder recovery? If the surgery goes wrong, they might hit an artery causing heavy bleeding which could be life-threatening.
“Is something wrong?” Jin Wenhan asks Wei Jiani, “Is something wrong with my leg?”
“No,” Wei Jiani shakes her head, “Don’t worry, I will do my best to help you. I will make sure that your leg recovers, and that you can walk and run again, just like before.”
“Thank you,” Jin Wenhan reaches out to Wei Jiani, holding her tightly. He trusts her, but she is thinking about the pins and the challenges of removing them.
The pins were inserted by Tang Yuxin. Doesn’t she want to remove them? But Wei Jiani grits her teeth—she won’t let Tang Yuxin take over, not wanting Jin Wenhan to see her as incompetent. If he discovered that she wasn’t the surgeon who operated on him, would everything change? No. She can’t allow things to change. She won’t fritter away the happiness she’s worked so hard to achieve. She won’t let go of this opportunity.
Tang Yuxin pulls out her phone, and upon seeing the caller ID, she immediately hangs up.
She tucks her hair behind her ear, thinking that after all that’s happened, why bother calling? What could they possibly want from her now?
Are they after her life, or her blood?
The gratitude for giving birth to her is paid. She doesn’t need the guilt of motherhood hanging over her anymore.
She receives another call which she promptly rejects, and finally, out of sheer annoyance, she turns off her phone. Instantly, peace descends upon her.
Over the next four days, her phone rings continuously but Tang Yuxin doesn’t pick up. When she feels bothered, she leaves her phone at home. It’s not her problem if they keep calling.
Just when she thought they’d given up after four days of non-stop calls, she heavily underestimated the dogged determination of some people, especially Sang Zhilan’s.
One day, after leaving her phone in her dorm, she’s informed that someone is looking for her.
Who could be looking for her? Tang Yuxin tries to guess, but nobody comes to mind. Be it Tang Zhinian, Gu Ning, or Lin Yile, they are all busy with their own affairs and they would have contacted her by phone which they still do regularly. If they were to come over, it wouldn’t be a surprise visit. They aren’t the romantic types, and certainly not with her. Such behavior is reserved for couples.
She can’t afford to be distracted by surprises or romance given how busy she is.
However, the moment she steps outside and spots the person waiting for her, she feels a deep-rooted disdain and annoyance.
“What are you doing here?”
She asks bluntly, devoid of emotion, with sheer disgust.
“I need to talk to you,” Sang Zhilan has no feelings for Tang Yuxin, she has come for a purpose. Since she couldn’t reach her over the phone, she decided to visit in person.
Quite swift and efficient.
It’s just a mystery where she gets the confidence from, believing that Tang Yuxin would agree.
Tang Yuxin lets Sang Zhilan into her place, and the moment Sang Zhilan enters the simple yet posh apartment, she notices the perfectly made bed, the neat furniture, everything about this place is far better than her own house.
“How did you afford this house?”
Sang Zhilan scans the room, the layout is quite nice and it could easily accommodate a family.
Tang Yuxin places a cup in front of Sang Zhilan, uninterested in answering her questions.
“Out with it. What are you here for.”
She asks straightforwardly, not wanting to beat around the bush. She can’t believe that Sang Zhilan may have had a change of heart and had come to visit her—her daughter – with whom she’s cut ties.
