Shortly after Tsuru mentioned the Five Elders, they contacted Sengoku through a Den Den Mushi.
Garp couldn’t help but shoot a look at Tsuru. If she hadn’t brought them up, would the Five Elders have even bothered calling?
“This doesn’t concern me. I’m out.”
Garp left immediately. He could pretty much guess what the Five Elders were going to say—and it wouldn’t be pleasant. They were definitely going to tear Sengoku a new one.
Listening to Sengoku get chewed out would be awkward, so he decided not to get involved.
“Sengoku, what the hell are you doing?? How did Shin Uzumaki get his hands on the Op-Op Fruit??”
Sure enough, before he had even gone far, he heard the Five Elders’ furious scolding.
Seeing Sengoku’s expression, Garp felt a surge of satisfaction. ‘Serves you right, you old bastard, for throwing me under the bus! Now you’re getting torn apart!’
He didn’t stick around for the show. If he did, Sengoku would probably take it out on him later. Garp turned and left, Tsuru also left.
————
Sengoku’s face was grim. After a scolding, he finally had a chance to breathe.
“I DON’T CARE HOW YOU DO IT. GET THE OP-OP FRUIT BACK FROM SHIN UZUMAKI.” The Five Elders finally delivered their ultimatum.
“Five Elders, that’s out of the question. Now is not the time to start a war with Shin Uzumaki,” Sengoku directly refused.
It wasn’t that Sengoku wanted to refuse—this was just a suicide mission. If the Marines actually went after Shin Uzumaki, the casualties would be catastrophic. The seas were already in chaos, and he couldn’t afford to throw the entire Marine force at one man.
Because it wasn’t worth it. The Marines couldn’t neglect their duty to hunt down countless other pirates just for the sake of one pirate.
Besides, compared to Shin Uzumaki, the other pirates were far worse. At least he hadn’t burned down cities, slaughtered innocents, or pillaged defenseless towns.
“Sengoku, are you refusing an order?” The Five Elders’ tone became severe.
Sengoku’s face darkened, but he couldn’t refuse.
“Understood. The Marines accept the order. We’ll do everything in our power to retrieve the Op-Op Fruit. But if we fail, I hope the Five Elders won’t hold us responsible.”
“Hmph.”
A cold snort came, and the other side hung up directly.
Now nobody was satisfied. Sengoku was pissed about the Five Elders’ order, and the Five Elders were equally frustrated with Sengoku.
————
At the Holy Land of Mary Geoise, within an opulent palace, the Five Elders had gathered—some standing, others seated.
“Sengoku’s insubordination is becoming a problem. Maybe it’s time to remind him who’s in charge!”
Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro asked the other Five Elders.
Though Sengoku had agreed in the end, they weren’t fools. How could they miss that he was just paying lip service, with no real intention of following through?
“We need the Marines functional right now. Looks like we’ll have to retrieve the Op-Op Fruit ourselves—” Saint Shepherd Ju Peter shook his head.
If the seas were peaceful, disposing of Sengoku would be simple. But with chaos erupting everywhere, they still needed his leadership. Their hands were tied.
“THEN ARE WE GOING TO ACT?” Saint Marcus Mars asked Saint Shepherd Ju Peter.
Their status was too elevated for them to act carelessly. But more importantly, they were wary of Shin’s true strength. Nobody really knew what he was capable of.
What if they underestimated him and got themselves killed? Their lives were precious—they valued self-preservation above all else. Unless they were absolutely certain of victory, they wouldn’t move against Shin directly.
It wasn’t a lack of confidence—they all believed in their power. But Shin’s reputation spoke for itself, and they weren’t about to take unnecessary risks.
Whitebeard was no match for him. And it wasn’t just Whitebeard—even Shiki the Golden Lion had fallen to Shin Uzumaki…
————
“Then how do we retrieve the Op-Op Fruit? It’s absolutely crucial to our plans. We have to get it back.”
Saint Topman Warcury said.
“According to our intelligence, the Marines have already sent a Vice Admiral undercover. What if we do the same?” Saint Jaygarcia Saturn suggested.
“Excellent idea. If the Op-Op Fruit hasn’t been consumed yet, we’ll find a way to steal it back. If someone’s already eaten it, we capture them instead.”
Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro nodded approvingly—it was a solid plan.
“Smart thinking. Plus we’d get intel on Shin Uzumaki himself. It’s feasible—though infiltration won’t be easy.”
Saint Shepherd Ju Peter agreed with the concept but questioned the execution.
“That’s what the CP organization is for. We’ll select someone suitable and plant them on Shin’s crew.”
Saint Marcus Mars didn’t see the difficulty. Finding the right operative would be simple enough—though they’d have to send a woman to blend in with the Kuja Pirates.
Slightly inconvenient, but not impossible!
So, The Five Elders huddled together, debating who to deploy against Shin Uzumaki’s crew.
————
Meanwhile, Shin remained oblivious to the Five Elders scheming as his ship crossed back into the New World.
“BACK IN THE NEW WORLD AGAIN. IT FEELS PRETTY GOOD.”
Looking at the familiar scenery of the New World, Shin said with a smile.
Howling winds, towering waves, and torrential rain—Momousagi couldn’t believe he called this “Good.”
She knew little about the New World, having spent most of her career at Marine Headquarters. This was her first time in these waters, so she didn’t realize that violent storms were basically the standard here.
In the New World, weather hit you before pirates did. And if the storms didn’t kill you, getting lost might—the magnetic interference could render Log Poses useless. Navigation here required real skill.
————
“First time in the New World?” Shin glanced at Momousagi.
“Is it that obvious? I’ve never been here before—everything’s so different from what I expected.” Momousagi nodded, taking in the hostile environment.
A newspaper fluttered down from above.
Shin snatched it mid-air, barely glancing at the departing News Coo.
“Whitebeard and Kaido are still going at it?” Shin scanned the headlines with mild interest.
He remembered seeing reports about their conflict when they’d first reached the North Blue. Apparently, the war was still raging.
“Should we go join in?” Hancock asked Shin with anticipation.
“For what? There’s nothing in it for us. Let’s head back to our territory first.” Shin had zero interest in someone else’s fight.
What was the point? No profit, no purpose.
