“Aizen’s plan to create the Hōgyoku is already underway… I wonder if Kisuke Urahara has created his own yet.”
The perfect Hōgyoku could only be created by fusing Aizen’s creation with Urahara’s. Both of their versions were just incomplete prototypes. Of course, even as prototypes, they possessed some power, but they were a far cry from the true, complete Hōgyoku.
“I’ll have to wait… I’ve already waited for so many years, what’s a little longer? I’m in no rush.”
Shin’s face showed no sign of impatience. Life in the Soul Reaper world was quite pleasant, so he didn’t mind waiting.

In the Rukongai, Gin Ichimaru looked at Rangiku Matsumoto with concern.
“Rangiku, are you alright?”
Rangiku shook her head. She couldn’t say she was completely fine, but her life wasn’t in danger. As long as her life wasn’t in danger, everything was alright. She couldn’t ask for more.
“It’s my fault. I was useless… When I saw you get hurt, I was too scared to even move. But Rangiku, I swear I’ll get revenge for you.”
Gin clenched his fists. He had watched from the shadows as Rangiku was injured, unable to do anything—not just out of fear, but because of the crushing spiritual pressure.
The Reiatsu from Aizen and Shin’s clash was so immense that even from a distance, Gin didn’t have the strength to stand.
“Let’s just forget about revenge.” Panic flickered across Rangiku’s pale face. “You can’t just go after a Soul Reaper. How could we possibly get revenge?”
“No. Our only chance is to get into the Seireitei. It’s the only way we’ll be safe.”
Gin shook his head at Rangiku. Only by gaining strength could they survive. Though they were safe for now, it was only temporary. They had to find a way to get into the Seireitei, and the only path was through the Shin’ō Academy.
Otherwise, as common souls from the Rukongai, they had no chance of ever setting foot in the Seireitei. Only those with the potential to become Soul Reapers could enter and escape their awkward status in the Rukongai.
“But… can I really pass the Shin’ō Academy’s entrance exam?” Rangiku’s face was filled with uncertainty.
“We have to try, no matter what. Even if we fail, we have to try. How will we know if we don’t even try?”
Gin encouraged Rangiku.
The intelligent Gin knew that if he wanted Rangiku to survive, their only option was to take their chances at the Shin’ō Academy. There was no other choice.
Afterward, the two of them went to take the entrance exam for the Shin’ō Academy.
Aizen paid them little mind. He had never considered them a threat and probably assumed Shin had already killed them. If Aizen knew they were still alive, he would likely have taken care of them himself.

“Where is Lady Yoruichi?”
When Shin returned to the 2nd Division barracks, Soi Fon immediately asked him. Lady Yoruichi had gone to find him, so why had he returned alone?
Had something happened to Lady Yoruichi? At this thought, a worried expression appeared on Soi Fon’s small face. Nothing could happen to Lady Yoruichi.
“What are you worried about? Yoruichi is perfectly fine,” Shin said, seeing the worry on Soi Fon’s face.
“Besides, even if she were in trouble, what could you do with your current strength? Do you really think you could help?”
Shin’s words were blunt, and Soi Fon’s expression turned grim. Though Shin had said Yoruichi was fine, Soi Fon was still worried.
“But… is Lady Yoruichi really okay?” Soi Fon wouldn’t be able to rest until she saw Yoruichi with her own eyes.
“Do you really think she’d be in danger in the Seireitei?”
“You never know. Who says the Seireitei is completely safe? I think there could be danger.”
Soi Fon nodded her small head, feeling that even in the Seireitei, it wasn’t entirely without risk. What if there were bad people in the Seireitei? Like the person in front of her.
Noticing Soi Fon’s gaze fixed on him, Shin’s mouth twitched. Soi Fon couldn’t possibly be thinking of him as a bad guy, could she?
“You don’t think I’m a bad person, do you?” Shin asked, his gaze turning a little unfriendly as he stared at Soi Fon.
“Lady Yoruichi told me you’re not a good person.”
Soi Fon watched Shin warily.
“Oh, is that right? So Yoruichi’s been talking behind my back. Now that I have proof, I’ll have to make sure she pays for that in a very… creative way when she gets back.”
Shin said, cracking his knuckles. Soi Fon suddenly felt a little uneasy. Had she said the wrong thing? Had she just gotten Lady Yoruichi into trouble?
“Little girl, aren’t you planning on leaving the 2nd Division?” Shin asked, pinching Soi Fon’s small cheek.
Though Soi Fon tried to maintain a serious expression, her forced seriousness only made Shin want to tease her more.
“No. I will wait for Lady Yoruichi to return before I leave the 2nd Division.”
Until she saw Yoruichi return, Soi Fon was determined not to leave the 2nd Division.
“Alright, you can stay here then.” Shin didn’t object. Besides, Yoruichi had already told him that Soi Fon would be staying in the 2nd Division from now on.
She hoped Shin would teach Soi Fon, and Shin had no problem with that. It was just teaching Soi Fon, after all. When he had free time, he didn’t mind guiding her a bit.
He had no ill feelings towards Soi Fon and didn’t mind her at all.
———————————
The next morning, Yoruichi finally returned.
“Lady Yoruichi, you’re finally back! I thought something happened to you.” Soi Fon looked at Yoruichi with two large, dark-circled eyes.
“Soi Fon, you didn’t sleep all night?” Yoruichi asked, looking at Soi Fon.
“Yes, I was waiting for Lady Yoruichi to come back.” Soi Fon nodded. Looking at her, Yoruichi felt a mix of wanting to comfort her and being a little annoyed.
“You don’t have to wait for me like this in the future. Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Yoruichi patted Soi Fon’s shoulder, telling her not to worry. Her concern was completely unnecessary. With her strength, what danger could she possibly encounter?
In fact, there was a danger in the Seireitei—Aizen. He was a huge threat.
“I understand, Lady Yoruichi.” Soi Fon nodded obediently. Yoruichi patted her little head, then went to find Shin.
Of course, she was going to confront him.
“Hey, Shin, what’s wrong with you? You just watched Soi Fon stay up all night waiting for me?” Yoruichi said, looking at Shin angrily, sticking up for Soi Fon.
“How is that my fault? I tried to persuade her, but she wouldn’t listen. She insisted on waiting for you. I think the problem lies with you.”
Hearing Yoruichi pin the blame on him, Shin was instantly annoyed. He wasn’t Danzō, the king of taking the blame. He wouldn’t just take whatever was thrown at him. He was lucky he hadn’t settled scores with Yoruichi yet.
