Oblivion's Heir: Rise of the Sovereign - Chapter 36: Framed (2)

Chapter 36: Framed (2)
“You damn filth.” Owen launched himself and smashed his shield directly against Ren.
But unlike what he had expected, Ren still kept standing without being hurled back. There was no change in his expression from the strike that had just landed squarely on his face, his eyes still held the same cautious and contemplative look as he kept his gaze locked on Luna.
Owen was surprised for a second seeing almost no damage being dealt to Ren, and for a second he even wondered how many stat points Ren had thrown in his strength and vitality.
Though it didn’t last for long.
When Owen saw his nose bleed, he was about to curse him once more, when suddenly, his focus shifted to Ren’s eyes and the direction he was looking.
’This fucker.’
Unable to hold back his anger, Owen lunged at Ren again, this time at his crotch.
“Stop.” A huge flame surrounded Ren out of nowhere, preventing Owen from striking.
Kael’s warning worked, and Owen reluctantly nodded and stepped back.
Ren was ready to block the strike this time. His senses were far stronger than those of others, which allowed him to sense Owen’s attack, but he didn’t dodge it at first, and thus allowed Owen to attack.
Not that he couldn’t, it was because he had no concern for him.
To Ren, Owen was nothing more than a chess piece manipulated by Derek just like the rest of the people.
And not to forget that Owen would have held back as he didn’t want to kill him, the reason Owen wasn’t too suspicious about his level and stats.
And if there was only Owen, Ren could have tried to escape, but the presence of Kael and Derek, two element manipulators prevented him from taking this gamble.
’My mana is too low to do anything, I can only take action until it’s recovered to at least 15 points which should take about three to four hours.’
Ren could only speculate why she agreed to Derek’s words.
There were only two possibilities he could think of. Either that Derek had blackmailed her or struck a deal with her, promising something from the inside of the citadel which was out of her reach.
He had seen things like this in the citadel earlier, so he wouldn’t be surprised if the reason Luna chose to frame him was similar to it.
Kael helped Luna up, passed his upper robe to her, and Owen lent his shoulder to aid her in walking back to the citadel.
Derek walked together with Kael a step behind Ren but Ren didn’t even spare them a look.
Ren kept his pace, lost in his own thoughts.
’And my words were convincing either…’ Of course, Ren hadn’t forgotten the words he had uttered to Derek while planning to take him down.
The group did encounter some vermyrexes here and there but Owen and Kael were enough to take them down.
’He won’t let me flee.’ Ren had thought not to waste this chance and attempt to run, but Derek didn’t participate in the vermyrex fight.
He kept a close eye on him all the time.
’Ugh… why is he not letting me get away?’ Ren clenched his jaw as frustration bubbled slightly inside him. He couldn’t understand why Derek was hell bent on getting him framed at the citadel.
It didn’t take them long to reach near the walls of the Inner Keep.
And everyone had returned without any casualties, something that should have given them appreciation but this time, it was a look of disgust.
Owen and Luna had been taken inside the citadel a few minutes earlier due to her injuries.
As they crossed the food distribution area, someone even hurled a plate at him, which was directly absorbed in a moving shadow.
“I knew he was a fiend, just look at his eyes.” The person screamed as he tried to reach near Ren and attack him, but one of the two stationed guards was more than enough to stop him.
The scene causing unrest and prompting others to think twice before taking action.
Ren’s feet stopped for a slight moment, which alerted Derek instantly.
But as if nothing had happened, Ren continued to move ahead.
’Looks like the word fiend is never going to separate from me.’ There was a look of disgust and mockery on his face.
And it wasn’t towards others, it was towards… himself.
But his despair didn’t last long, his situation didn’t allow him to give time for him to loathe himself.
And Ren knew that, so he tried to divert his attention.
’Is there any healing kind of class too?’ He wasn’t that worried about what would happen to him.
Ren was confident in his abilities to escape at the very least after recovering his mana and exhaustion.
Why? Because of Oblivion Integration and his abnormal strength on par with a level fifty-two player, a person with such a level would probably be impossible to find right now.
’But can I even use it now?’
Ren gave a side glance at his stats, uncaring if Derek noticed something as no one could see others’ stat panels.

’Hmm… ?’ He immediately focused on the last line of text as he noticed the change.
Ren deciphered from the text that if his status were stable, he might be able to use it again but there was something that still made him worry.
’Consciousness erosion…’ Ren gulped as he dismissed the panel and directed his attention ahead of him.
He was currently in the same players’ training quarters which were inaccessible to most except the players and guards themselves.
’I wonder what level the city captain is. Would I be able to take him down in a one-on-one?’ He didn’t know but there was a chance that he could find this out today, only if things went completely south.
