Oblivion's Heir: Rise of the Sovereign - Chapter 45: Madness Reignited

Chapter 45: Madness Reignited
The noise came abruptly, making Kade stand up from his chair.
He rushed outside together with Ren to figure out what was going on, and what greeted them was a slaughter ground.
Hundreds of people stampeded while screaming in panic. Some sprang forth to the center while others fled away from it for their lives.
“What’s happening?” Kade caught a frantic man beside him.
“S-something attacked us,” The man stuttered as the wretched figure’s action replayed in his mind.
Kade wanted to ask more, but he didn’t have any time to waste; otherwise, he would lose hundreds of people under him in a matter of minutes.
’Is he the only one?’ Ren communicated with his minion.
’No, prince. There’s one on standby too.’ The same rough voice rang in his ears, leaving him with a slight, itchy feeling.
’Standby?’ His jaw dropped.
’Should I tell him?’ Glancing at the man who was advancing forward with him, Ren considered but ultimately decided to keep his lips tight.
And they saw it soon enough.
“What the hell is that?” The leader’s voice boomed through the dome and suddenly, his speed increased so much that Ren almost lost sight of him for a second.
’He isn’t a faction leader for no reason.’ Ren stopped and switched his attention back to the absurdity looming before them.
A creature that looked as if hell itself had given birth to it.
Unnaturally long, and frail-looking arms that clutched a woman by her neck. Crimson orbs that glowed with an intensity that seemed to devour the very life of a living thing itself. A loose red robe clung to its body, hiding its true form.
Its other hand jerked forward and sank into the woman’s chest, and in the next second, a fresh and live beating heart appeared in its hands.
It pulsed in his hands, and the light faded out of the woman’s eyes. Lifting its arm, the figure gulped the heart down its throat.
“Carter and Cooper,” Kade shouted, and two people immediately joined him from the hordes of people that were fleeing.
Of all the days Ren could have joined this faction, he had done it on the worst one possible. He had given his word to the faction; meaning he couldn’t back out now.
“Give me an opportunity,” Ren shouted and received a nod from Kade.
The duo that had joined Kade flanked the creature from both sides, and without wasting any time, he lunged at the robed figure.
“Tch, foolish humans.” A weak voice escaped its mouth.
His claws extended forward in a flash and caught Kade’s fist easily.
“And who might you be?” The being’s predatory eyes glowed, making Kade a little disoriented.
That’s when two spears were hurled at once, but the collision never occurred.
Its eyes darted to the incoming weapons and with a foolish grin, the entity placed Kade in front, using Kade as a shield for himself.
’He’s experienced.’ Kade had already been surprised by the creature’s ability to speak the human tongue, and now, he was once more astounded by its intelligence.
He flipped in the air and struck it directly in its chest, and the impact threw them both out of the central pit.
’Now.’ Ren bolted forward, instantly reaching the place where the abomination had been thrown back to.
His leg swept in the air but was stopped an inch away from the creature.
“Couldn’t hide anymore now, could you?” Ren grinned as the vermyrex that stopped him swept its claws at his chest, throwing him multiple buildings away.
His figure crashed into a small stall that was earlier used to sell weapons.
“Damn, it hurts.” Ren didn’t realize that his personality was once again changing, the craving for blood increasing exponentially inside him once again.
Standing up, his hands gripped the hilt of an axe that he picked up from the couple of weapons that lay at his feet.
With a flick of his wrist, he gulped down the vial that he had stored in his inventory.
“Now this is gonna be fun.” With a glance at his chest that now contained a deep gash which had started to heal itself, Ren charged ahead.
His vitality was more than enough to stop the bleeding and with the effect of the potion added to that, one could even see the wound stitching itself back together and in the blink of an eye, Ren healed completely.
The creature had already stood up and was once again locked in a standoff against Kade and his two underlings, while the vermyrex fixed its attention on Ren with a ferocious glint in its eyes.
“Bastard. You think only you can have a vermyrex as an underling?” With a sharp tongue, Ren cursed the entity before engaging it.
His axe cleaved through the air, but the unfamiliar length of the axe caused his strike to miss.
The vermyrex felt it too, the reach that Ren wanted wasn’t present on this axe, and not wasting the opportunity, it opened its maw wide in an attempt to directly tear him apart.
But what it never realized was Ren’s adaptability, something which even the panel couldn’t measure.
His gaze locked onto its tightening limbs, and at once, his figure jumped away from where he stood, thereby evading the attack successfully.
It pounced on him once again, though this time, Ren caught its limb as the vermyrex crashed onto the ground after failing its attack.
With an abnormal grip, he hurled it towards a stranded building using only his left hand.
“Its payback, you bastard.”
Ren didn’t care about killing it with the opportunity he got, for the current him, giving the vermyrex the taste of his own medicine was more worth it.
It stood up once again, the two black eyes glowing with a tint of red.
’Something is different.’
He felt the change immediately. The vermyrex now looked even more aggressive with its saliva dripping from its open mouth.
Not wasting another second, Ren struck again with his axe.
And before the vermyrex could rebalance itself, the axe sliced through the air and severed one of its limbs in two.
“SHRIEEEEEEK…”
A piercing scream echoed throughout the dome, though hardly anyone turned towards him.
The other battle was causing far more destruction than a simple scream.
“Look who’s the one torn apart now.” With a hysterical laugh, Ren chopped off its head.
