Oblivion's Heir: Rise of the Sovereign - Chapter 49: The Last One Standing

Chapter 49: The Last One Standing
The dust couldn’t even settle before another strike landed, by Ren this time.
His blades that were sharp enough to slice two of the monstrosity’s fingers fell short when it struck its chest.
Taking the chance, the creature clutched Ren’s neck, tightening the grip in its hands and ready to finish him in one go but the faction leader wasn’t finished.
He pummeled the creature ruthlessly, forcing the creature to release Ren, allowing him to immediately back away with a flap of his wings.
Each strike of the polearm echoed against the walls of the dome.
Kade’s massive frame had allowed him to attack first with something that can only be described as a super-jump.
Yet he still couldn’t push the creature back.
’What’s with his defense? We need to do something fast.’ With another exchange, both backed away.
The monstrosity grinned even though one of its hands contained two less fingers.
“Wait…” A thought struck his mind and glancing at Ren, their eyes locked.
With a nod, both lunged at once.
It was now or never, their mana wasn’t enough to hold out the transformation for too long.
’This bastard can even withstand this form? Seriously, what can I even use to tip the scales of the fight?’ His mind instantly wandered to the vermyrex that still loomed above one of the entrances that he had used to enter the dome, awaiting his command.
’No, that would just get it killed.’ That’s when his eyes met with the faction leader, and something popped up in his mind.
’It’s hands.’
They bolted once more, though this time, their focus was on the abomination’s limb.
The creature itself was left confused by the duo’s actions, and till the time realization dawned on it, it was a second too late.
The clash happened in a heartbeat.
The abomination flipped in the air and avoided Ren’s bladed arms, and immediately struck him with some weird energy directly on his chest, flinging him backwards.
But someone else succeeded, though not entirely.
The faction leader’s glaive cleaved through its right arm before the monstrosity could redirect its attention to him.
“Shrieeeeekkk…”
With a maddening scream, it plunged its remaining hand into his huge body and kicked him away before jerking its arm back.
A shocked expression crossed its face as it looked at its left arm, which only contained blood and other indescribable things.
Multiple buildings were destroyed in one go as Ren’s figures blasted away, only coming to a stop after striking against the wall of the dome itself and falling to the ground headfirst.
The moment he was thrown, his wings had once again wrapped around his figure like a cocoon and had protected him from the damage.
And then, his Integration finished and Ren was now back to his original form and lay unconscious.
Meanwhile, the situation at the center lay completely different.
The smoke settled, and only a single silhouette could be seen in the aftermath of the attack.
Kade sat on the destroyed ground, leaning back against a collapsed pillar as blood dripped from his mouth, his transformation had finished too.
He glanced down, and a smile bloomed on his face despite his broken figure.
His heart was fine.
His massive frame had prevented the creature’s arm from reaching inside his chest, though there was still a big hole present in the center.
The outcome was crystal clear for everyone to see, the wretched figure was the last one standing despite fighting a one-versus-two battle.
“Is this the en—?” Before the words could leave the abomination’s mouth, a shout rang through the air.
“LEADERRR.”
Surprised, Kade looked around and his eyes widened in surprise.
“Of course not, you shithead.” With a chuckle, he screamed.
“ATTACKKKKKK…” Instantly, the thousands of humans that stood on the opposite side of the dome rushed.
His reason to stop them from attacking was the same as Ren’s reason for not allowing his vermyrex to attack, they would die like moths to a flame.
“You bastard.” The creature was not faring well itself, it didn’t have the potions to stop the black blood bleeding from its left side.
It didn’t waste time and rushed back.
Killing Kade now was impossible as he had chugged down vials of health potions after he fell, which meant he could still fight back.
Every human chased the creature down as it ran miserably back the way it came from.
But the humans still weren’t enough.
It killed those who got too close to him and kept running in desperation.
“I WILL BE BACK.” With a loud shout, it escaped into the narrow catacomb-like tunnels.
’It won’t die like this, I can’t risk everyone’s lives for this.’ Kade knew its defense after experiencing it firsthand.
So he immediately stopped everyone from chasing it and dying needlessly because if not for the massive blood loss it was having, every single human might have been butchered today.
If Carter and Cooper who now lie unconscious after the fight were also here, they could have finished it right now.
“Wait, where’s Ren?” Looking around, he concluded the direction Ren had been thrown towards and ordered some people who were helping him up to find him.
Not long after, two people brought him back.
If he was still conscious for even a second, he could’ve ordered his vermyrex to finish off the creature for good, alas, luck again wasn’t on his side.
Chugging another set of potions, he told them to take him to an intact building in the corner and let him recuperate while also not forgetting to give two potions.
“This is some serious issue.” Every vial he drank till now started to work only after some time passed, and regenerating a whole limb was almost impossible.
“And yet I still lied to recruit him, and I was right. He’s a valuable piece I need.”
Though the wound on his chest was not as serious as a lost limb, allowing the bleeding from the hole in his chest to stop.
