Chapter 193: Chapter 193: The Hellish Hobgoblin’s Horde [3]
Surrounded from every side by the [Pyroman Apes], [Fire Hobgoblins], and the towering [Hellish Hobgoblin], Leon didn’t rush in blindly.
Instead he stood still for a brief moment, his eyes scanning the battlefield with calm precision as he took the time to properly assess everything around him.
’36 [Pyroman Apes] and 45 [Fire Hobgoblins],’ he thought, clearly more excited than intimidated by the situation he had found himself in, ’My inventory is definitely getting full after this, and [Celestial Hand] is probably going to trigger a few times.’
The idea of all the loot that would drop from such a large group of monsters was already enough to make this fight worth it in his eyes.
And considering that every single one of these creatures possessed some kind of sub-talent, the potential gains were even greater than usual.
’Celeste and Emilia are going to benefit a lot from this,’ Leon continued thinking as he slightly adjusted his grip on both his staff and sword, ’Especially if I can stack enough sub-talents for them… as for the essences and the rest, I’ll sort that out afterward.’
Before he could think any further, the monsters didn’t waste a single second.
Fwoosh!
As if they had all been given the same command at once, the entire group surged forward, flames flickering around their bodies as they charged toward Leon from every direction.
Their intent was clear as day: overwhelm him completely and crush him before he could react properly.
“Die… human,” the [Hellish Hobgoblin] spoke once again from the back, its voice rough and filled with hostility as blood continued to drip from its mouth, clearly still affected by Leon’s previous attack, yet far from out of the fight.
At that exact moment, Leon briefly considered something extreme.
For a split second, the thought of using [Oblivion Meteor] crossed his mind.
It would have ended everything instantly, wiping out not only the monsters in front of him but potentially everything within a massive radius, leaving nothing behind.
But the downsides were far too significant to ignore.
First, the spell didn’t discriminate between enemies and allies, meaning Celeste and Emilia would be caught in it.
Second, and more importantly, Leon himself wasn’t immune to its power.
Using it right now would essentially be a suicide attack.
The only way he could safely rely on something like that was if [Life Vessel] was active, allowing him to revive afterward.
But since it was still on cooldown, that option was completely off the table.
And considering how his [Spirit] stat kept increasing, the destructive power of [Oblivion Meteor] would only grow stronger over time, potentially reaching a level where it could wipe out entire regions or even kingdoms.
’I don’t need that right now,’ Leon thought calmly, pushing the idea aside without hesitation.
Still, the thought lingered.
“I’ll get more [Forbidden Spells] eventually… and maybe even my first bloodline,” he muttered under his breath, his eyes sharpening slightly as he focused back on the battle unfolding in front of him.
For now though, survival and efficiency were his only priorities.
Darkness Barrier!
A dark aura instantly formed around Leon, condensing into a protective barrier that surrounded his entire body, its surface faintly pulsing as it prepared to absorb incoming damage.
Even though his [Combat Power] was higher than most of the monsters charging at him, their sheer numbers and the buffs granted by the [Hellish Hobgoblin] meant that they were still capable of dealing real damage if he let them overwhelm him.
And Leon had no intention of letting that happen. A confident grin slowly appeared on his face.
“You’re about to find out exactly why mages stay at the top,” he said calmly as he raised his staff, energy beginning to gather around him in multiple forms at once.
Then, without holding back even slightly—
Fwoosh!
Powerful Fireball! Torrent of Lightning! Blood Beam! Ice Spikes! Vines of Torment!
Leon unleashed everything at once.
A storm of magic erupted from his position, spreading outward in every direction as each spell took form, overlapping with the others to create complete chaos within the clearing.
If he had been relying purely on swordsmanship, fighting this many enemies at the same time would have been extremely difficult, if not outright impossible depending on the circumstances.
’Heh…’ Leon thought as a small, almost nostalgic smile appeared on his face, ’This is probably the closest I’ve been to THAT moment so far.’
He had experienced similar situations before, like when he faced the forces of the [Church of Light] or in [Labyrinth of Souls].
But this exact scenario, being completely surrounded by enemies with a stronger entity watching over them, felt eerily familiar.
Of course, these monsters were nothing compared to the beings he had once faced in his past life, especially not the [God of Eternity] and its followers, who could erase entire armies with a mere thought.
But still… the feeling was there.
And this time, Leon had no intention of being overwhelmed.
BOOM!
The [Powerful Fireball] exploded right in the middle of the charging horde, flames bursting outward in a violent wave as several monsters were caught directly in the blast.
Even though many of them possessed fire-related affinities, their resistance was nowhere near enough to withstand the sheer intensity of Leon’s attack.
Those caught at the center were instantly reduced to ash.
Zap! Zap! ZAP!
At the same time, bolts of lightning descended from above, striking multiple targets in rapid succession, the confined space making it nearly impossible for the monsters to dodge effectively.
Some were killed outright, while others were left stunned, their bodies twitching as electricity coursed through them.
And then—
Snap! Crack!
The [Vines of Torment] erupted from the ground once more, twisting and lashing out at anything within reach, their dark forms resisting the flames long enough to wrap around several enemies and crush them without mercy.
Some monsters attempted to burn the vines, launching fire attacks in desperation, but it took multiple hits just to weaken a single vine, and by then, the damage had already been done.
BAM! BOOM!
Spikes of ice shot up from the ground, impaling a handful of enemies before quickly beginning to melt under the intense heat of the environment.
’Ice and fire really are situational,’ Leon thought as he observed the effect, ’It’s too hot here for this to last long… but it still does the job.’
And finally—
BOOM!
The [Blood Beam] shot forward, carving a path through the remaining monsters, its raw force pushing them back while dealing heavy damage.
’I need to level up [Ice Spikes] and [Blood Beam] soon,’ Leon noted mentally, already planning ahead, ’They’re still lagging behind the others.’
Even at their current levels, they were still effective, but he knew they could become much stronger with the right investment.
Two [Pyroman Apes] managed to break through the barrage and close the distance, their torches swinging wildly as they aimed directly for Leon.
But—
Fwoosh!
Leon reacted instantly.
He turned his body slightly, redirecting the [Blood Beam] at one of them at point-blank range, completely erasing it from existence.
The second ape’s attack came in right after, but Leon stepped aside with precise timing, avoiding the strike before countering with his sword in one smooth motion.
SLASH!
The ape’s head fell to the ground before its body even realized what had happened.
Leon’s control over both his staff and sword was seamless, his movements flowing naturally despite the chaos around him.
Many players would struggle to manage both melee and magic simultaneously, especially under this kind of pressure.
But for Leon… it was second nature.
Still, he knew there was room for improvement.
’If I find a weapon that can combine both physical and magical output, that would be perfect,’ he thought, recalling the kind of equipment he had once used in his past life.
For now though, what he had was more than enough.
As the dust settled from his barrage of attacks, the battlefield had changed drastically.
Most of the monsters that had rushed him were already dead, their bodies scattered across the clearing.
Only around two dozen remained.
And for the first time… hesitation appeared in their movements.
They had seen what Leon could do.
They understood, at least on some level, that this human was far beyond anything they had faced before.
But before any of them could even think about retreating—
ROOOAR!
The [Hellish Hobgoblin] roared once again, its voice filled with authority and rage.
Its eyes locked onto the remaining monsters, forcing them into submission.
Even if they wanted to run, they couldn’t. Disobeying the boss would mean immediate death.
So their only choice was simple. Fight… or die.
Fwoosh!
With renewed desperation, the remaining monsters charged forward once again, flames burning brighter around their bodies as they prepared for one final assault against Leon.
And as Leon watched them come, his expression didn’t change in the slightest.
He simply tightened his grip on his weapons, his stance steady, his mind focused.
