Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Insignificant Lackeys
Late at night, Luca, having made ample preparations, arrived at the entrance of the sealed zone.
There wasn’t a single soul guarding the area. All members of Morning Star had been reassigned. However, before leaving, they had deliberately reinforced the place with two additional sealing arrays.
To Luca, these two sealing arrays were nothing to speak of.
With ease, he used shadow magic runes to bypass both seals and arrived at the entrance of the underground passage.
“I can feel the primal power below growing stronger than before. The leakage of the Origin Holy Grail’s energy is becoming more and more intense,”
Sophia’s voice echoed in Luca’s mind.
Luca nodded slowly.
In fact, the moment he arrived, he too had sensed the overwhelming presence of primal power.
But instead of immediately diving into the passage like Sophia had suggested, he quietly tightened his grip on Starseeker and launched an attack toward a nearby shadow.
With his Perception talent fully maxed out, Luca had already detected the ill intent hiding in that shadow by the time Sophia began speaking.
Starseeker’s strike landed in an instant.
A scream tore through the darkness.
And then, from all directions around the entrance, figures burst forth.
None of them were particularly strong—the highest level among them barely reached fifty.
Such opponents were utterly insignificant in front of Luca.
The moment they revealed themselves, Luca activated his flame magic runes.
A wall of fire fell from the sky.
Cries of agony erupted as the ambushers were engulfed in flames.
“You truly overestimate yourselves! With your pathetic strength, you aren’t even qualified to ambush me. Come back when you’ve reached level 60—then maybe you’ll earn the right to face me in battle.”
Luca gazed coldly at the enemies writhing in the flames as he spoke.
He had already figured out who these people were.
They were undoubtedly the pawns sent by the noble families of the Imperial Capital, hiding here to launch a surprise attack while his guard was down.
“The noble families really are trash. To think they believed they could take me down like this. Having weaklings like this as our enemies… might not be such a bad thing after all.”
Luca shared his thoughts with Sophia.
Then, without hesitation, he stepped into the passage.
Behind him, the agonized cries of those insignificant lackeys still echoed faintly at the entrance.
But Luca had no intention of ending their suffering quickly.
He had deliberately chosen to let their miserable fates serve as a warning to any other enemies who might be watching.
As for the noble families, they wouldn’t care about the lives of these small-time pawns.
To them, these underlings were nothing more than disposable cannon fodder — their deaths utterly meaningless.
The moment Luca entered the passage, the overwhelming primal power struck both him and Sophia with immense force.
The Remnants of the Ancient Gods, currently residing within Luca, began to react abnormally under the immense pressure of that power.
Luca could feel it — the Ancient God was awakening, and fast.
If he couldn’t seize control of the Origin Holy Grail soon, then the resurrection of that Ancient God would become unstoppable.
And a successfully resurrected Ancient God in the real world… would pose a catastrophic threat to humanity.
A threat that could even surpass the imminent arrival of the devastating monster horde.
“We have to move fast. You don’t need to assist me anymore—just focus on keeping yourself safe.”
Luca spoke swiftly to Sophia.
Sophia didn’t respond.
She was already in terrible shape.
In her current spiritual form, lacking a physical body, she was especially vulnerable to the primal power’s influence.
Just maintaining the balance of her own energy was consuming nearly all of her strength.
Even if she wanted to help Luca, she simply couldn’t.
Luca, meanwhile, poured more power into reinforcing the Prison of the Gods seal, trying to suppress the Ancient God’s awakening.
At the same time, he raced forward toward the deepest part of the sealed zone.
That was where the Origin Holy Grail was hidden.
Only five minutes later, he reached the final fork in the sealed passage.
From here, all he had to do was take the right-hand tunnel, and he would arrive at the Grail’s location.
But of course, as Luca had come to expect, things would not go so smoothly.
Standing guard at the fork was an unfamiliar young man.
And the moment he laid eyes on Luca, he launched a direct attack without warning.
Unlike the weaklings at the entrance, this man was clearly far stronger.
His power level was approaching Level 65.
This also meant that his skills were capable of dealing actual damage to Luca.
At the very start of the battle, the young man unleashed an ability that directly countered Luca’s strengths.
Dark shadows burst forth from his body, streaking through the air.
These shadows completely neutralized the power of Starseeker, and even prevented Luca from releasing his Dreamweaving Mist.
Though Luca was growing increasingly anxious, facing an opponent who could genuinely threaten him demanded composure and precision.
He knew he couldn’t afford to act recklessly.
As a result, the fight quickly turned into a deadlock.
And with the ever-increasing surge of primal power in the underground passage, the environmental pressure on Luca intensified.
Yet the young man seemed completely unaffected by it.
This disparity slowly pushed Luca into a disadvantageous position.
Seeing himself gain the upper hand, a grin spread across the young man’s face.
He continued pressing the attack while taunting Luca:
“So this is all your strength amounts to?
A little pressure from me and you’re already being overwhelmed?
Had they let me step in earlier, I would’ve taken you out long ago!”
Luca, however, paid no mind to his opponent’s provocation.
Throughout the battle, he had already carefully analyzed the man’s skillset and combat patterns.
And now, he was fully prepared to counterattack.
But before that—he wanted the man to get cockier.
Because arrogance often leads to carelessness… and carelessness can reveal critical information.
“Give it up! You won’t last much longer!”
“The primal power is continuously amplifying my strength. The longer this drags on, the greater my advantage becomes!
Once I kill you, I, Eli Pike, will be the undisputed next head of the Pike family!
And our family will rise to dominate all noble houses in the Imperial Capital!”
Eli Pike’s voice was thick with excitement.
He could already envision the moment he became the Pike family’s patriarch—standing triumphant above all others in the Imperial Capital.
Watching this, Luca knew the man had completely let his guard down.
Feigning weakness and disbelief, Luca looked at Eli Pike and asked in a shaky voice:
“How… how did you do it?
Why can you absorb primal power and turn it into your own strength?”
Eli Pike’s grin deepened.
He sneered arrogantly:
“Since you’re about to die anyway, I might as well grant you that clarity!
It was the Great Sage who blessed me—thanks to that blessing, I’m able to convert primal power into my own!”
“The Great Sage?”
Luca frowned slightly in confusion.
Whether in the real world or in the Eternal World, he had never heard of anyone with that title.
[Looks like this so-called Great Sage is just a false identity. Someone is using it to manipulate the noble families of the Imperial Capital from the shadows.]
A brief moment of thought was all it took for Luca to reach that conclusion.
He had already narrowed down the list of suspects to three individuals:
Zenobia, Councilor Devitt, and a high-ranking executive from Zenith Technology Company.
Zenobia was the first to be eliminated.
She had always harbored deep disdain for humanity, seeing humans as nothing more than pitiful ants.
There was simply no way she would ever stoop to collaborating with them.
The Zenith executive was a potential candidate.
Their company certainly had the resources and influence to meddle in the affairs of the Imperial Capital.
However, before doing so, they would most likely have ordered Nova to act.
Yet Nova was still stationed at Daskhollow Base, completely inactive—
Which meant Zenith’s leadership hadn’t finalized their strategy against him just yet.
That left only one plausible identity behind the “Great Sage.”
Councilor Devitt.
As Luca silently sorted through this deduction, Eli Pike watched him with a gleaming smile.
He mistook Luca’s thoughtful frown for the hopeless desperation of someone nearing defeat.
“No need to think so hard. Just accept your fate already!”
“To be killed by me is a privilege! You’ll be remembered in history, I promise you that—
Of course, only as the loser who fell at my hands!”
Eli Pike burst into arrogant laughter, basking in his imagined triumph.
But Luca had already figured everything out.
There was no longer any reason for him to play the part of the weakened prey.
More importantly, now that he had confirmed Eli Pike’s power over primal energy came from Devitt’s so-called ’blessing’,
he also understood the perfect way to end it.
Devitt had no true command over primal power.
What he had offered wasn’t a blessing at all—it was a curse in disguise.
One that didn’t activate immediately, but was now ripe for detonation.
Luca activated his defensive magic runes, and a shimmering silver-white shield enveloped his body.
Then, with sharp precision, he redirected all the surrounding primal power toward Eli Pike.
The massive surge of primal power swarmed Eli in an instant—
And with it, the hidden curse Devitt had planted began to activate.
Eli’s body started to break apart,
Though at first, he didn’t even realize what was happening.
“You really are unbelievably stupid! I told you—I can harness primal power, and yet you still went ahead and sent it right to me! You must be completely desperate!”
Eli Pike sneered triumphantly, his voice dripping with mockery.
But the words had barely left his mouth when the smug grin vanished from his face.
He suddenly realized—his body was falling apart.
Before he could even comprehend what was happening, the curse—now fully activated by the surge of primal power—detonated within him, obliterating his body from the inside out.
Eli Pike died almost instantly, consumed by the very force he thought he controlled.
Most of his body disintegrated entirely, leaving behind only a face—
frozen in a twisted mask of disbelief.
