- Chapter 487 487: Dragon-Slayer Greatsword

Andrew hadn’t expected that Luca would only now, at long last, fully trust him.
He, on the other hand, had trusted Luca from the very beginning. After all, it was Luca who had saved him. Without Luca, there was no way he could have made it out of The Wasteland of Bones alive.
A faint expression of disappointment crossed Andrew’s face, but he quickly adjusted his mindset.
“Enough talking,” he said, forcing a small smile. “Let me take you to see my collection room. The rare weapon I promised to give you is stored in there.”
“Then let’s go already,” Luca replied without hesitation.
With that, Andrew led Luca deeper and deeper into the headquarters of the Adventurers’ Guild.
Eventually, they reached the innermost chamber. Andrew instinctively glanced around, making sure that no one else was nearby. Only after confirming their privacy did he reach into his pocket and pull out an exquisitely crafted key.
“I can’t let anyone else know that my collection room is hidden inside the Adventurers’ Guild,” he explained in a low voice. “I even spread a rumor beforehand—that all the valuables I’ve collected are kept at my personal residence.”
As he spoke, Andrew inserted the key into a small, inconspicuous cabinet at the far end of the room and unlocked it.
The moment the cabinet opened, the entire chamber changed dramatically.
The four walls suddenly flared with a cascade of shimmering, multicolored light.
Luca’s instincts immediately kicked in, and he prepared himself for battle.
Even though he believed Andrew was trustworthy, he couldn’t afford to be careless and had to brace for the worst.
Fortunately, the dazzling light faded quickly. Soon, the walls settled into a soft, uniform shade of blue.
On one of the walls, a door materialized out of thin air.
Without hesitation, Andrew pushed it open and stepped into the pitch-black corridor beyond.
“What are you standing there for?” Andrew’s voice echoed from the darkness. “Hurry up and follow me. Or are you telling me you don’t want to see the weapon I prepared for you?”
After a brief pause, Luca followed him in.
The two of them walked through the narrow, unlit hallway for what felt like a full quarter of an hour before finally arriving in front of a massive, weathered door.
This time, Andrew retrieved a different key from his pocket.
“Even if someone manages to find this place,” he said with a smile, “without this key, there’s no way they’d ever get through this last door.”
As he spoke, he slid the key into the lock and swung the heavy door open.
Luca kept his eyes fixed on the massive door, his gaze unwavering.
And the very moment the door creaked open, the sight that greeted him inside left him utterly speechless.
The collection room was filled with treasures so rare that each one was almost unimaginable.
Some were exquisitely cut gemstones of indescribable beauty, others were sacred relics left behind by ancient empires long lost to history, and still others were ornate masterpieces painstakingly crafted by the most powerful factions of the Eternal Continent.
The sheer quantity and quality of these rare artifacts was staggering.
The fact that Andrew had managed to gather them all in one place was undeniable proof that he was, indeed, an exceptionally capable adventurer.
Noticing Luca’s stunned expression, Andrew’s lips curled into a self-satisfied smile.
“What you’ve seen so far,” he said, his tone rich with pride, “isn’t even the rarest part of my collection. Come inside. I’ll show you treasures far beyond anything you can imagine.”
Without hesitation, Andrew led Luca deeper into the collection room.
They passed row after row of meticulously arranged storage cabinets. As they walked, Andrew took his time explaining the origins of the items displayed within.
“These,” he said, gesturing toward a set of gleaming ornaments, “are funerary offerings buried alongside a pharaoh of an ancient, long-lost civilization. Some say they contain immense, mystical power.”
He gave a soft, dismissive chuckle. “But I’ve examined them thoroughly. There’s no power hidden within—just lavish decoration.”
Moving on, he pointed to a finely forged longsword resting in its case.
“This sword once belonged to Amesis I, the founding emperor of the Via Empire. I retrieved it myself from one of his imperial tombs.”
Then he stopped before another display, where a single, unassuming item was laid out carefully.
“This,” he said slowly, “was placed in the grave of a certain Duke. I haven’t discovered anything unusual about the artifact itself, but the Duke’s lineage… well, that’s another matter entirely.”
Andrew’s voice dropped slightly, almost conspiratorial.
“This Duke was a member of the Blues Family, a bloodline infamous across the Crimson Domain. According to legend, this relic is somehow tied to the Goddess of the Night — Nyx. Some of the older folk I’ve spoken to claim there’s a tale suggesting that the Crimson King’s very ancestors were born from Nyx’s divine power.”
As Andrew finished, he stopped in front of a small, pitch-black ceramic jar resting within its own glass display. His gaze lingered on it with unusual intent.
The jar itself wasn’t large. Its surface was a deep, flawless black, but around the neck were faint crimson markings. Under the dim lighting, the markings appeared almost alive, shifting between the shape of a waning crescent and the curve of a scythe.
Luca, who had barely paid any attention to the previous treasures, was instantly captivated.
His gaze locked on the jar, his expression grave.
“I’ve heard that legend too,” he said softly, without looking away. “Do you believe it’s true?”
Andrew blinked in surprise. He hadn’t expected Luca to show such deep interest in this particular artifact.
In truth, the only reason he had spent so much time explaining the jar was because it originated from the All-Beings Empire—and with Luca about to join the Crimson King’s army, Andrew thought it might be useful for him to know more about the King’s history.
He hadn’t expected Luca to care this much.
After a brief pause, Andrew slowly gave his answer.
“I both believe it and don’t believe it,” he said calmly. “As an adventurer, I have to dig through outlandish legends and wild rumors in search of clues. Only by doing so can I uncover treasures that no one else even knows exist.
“This particular legend might be true. As long as it provides me with leads to track down more hidden relics, then I’ll treat it as real. But if it offers me nothing—no clues, no insight—then, to me, it’s just another meaningless fairy tale.”
Andrew’s response was flawless—neither reckless nor dismissive.
It carried the precise mindset of a true adventurer.
Luca nodded slightly and chose not to press the matter any further.
Andrew, without wasting another moment, led Luca deeper into the collection room.
At the farthest end of the chamber, mounted on the wall beneath a focused ray of light, hung a magnificent greatsword. Its blade shimmered with a faint, icy gleam, exuding an aura so sharp and overwhelming that even from a distance, it commanded reverence.
“This,” Andrew declared with rising excitement, “is the weapon I intend to give you—the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword!”
Luca instinctively stepped forward, closing the distance until he stood directly in front of the sword.
The very instant his gaze fell upon it, a powerful surge of energy washed over him. He could feel the immense strength sealed within the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword, like a slumbering beast just waiting to be awakened.
But along with that recognition came another, sobering realization—fully mastering this weapon would require tremendous effort and discipline.
Still, Luca’s determination burned all the brighter. If he succeeded, the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword would become an unparalleled asset in the battles to come.
Andrew’s voice took on a reverent tone as he recounted the sword’s origins:
“I discovered the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword inside an ancient tomb deep within the southern region of the Via Empire. The tomb lay hidden in the heart of an untouched, primordial forest.
“Originally, I hadn’t gone there to excavate any graves. My intent was simply to gather rare species from the forest and familiarize myself with the surrounding terrain.
“But by pure chance, I stumbled upon a hidden entrance beneath a lake, which led me directly into that ancient tomb. Inside, I found a staggering number of burial offerings—ornate, priceless items of immense cultural value.
“Yet, as I examined them, I realized something strange: none of the artifacts matched the style of the Via Empire. Whoever built that tomb, it wasn’t anyone from their history.”
Andrew’s gaze drifted briefly to the sword before returning to Luca.
“After passing through a long, eerie corridor, I finally reached the innermost chamber. There, sitting upon a throne of bizarre design, was a skeleton—its bony fingers still clutching the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword, as though guarding it even in death.
“The moment I laid eyes on it, I knew… this was the most valuable thing in that entire tomb. So I took the sword—and ran. I didn’t even bother touching the piles of gold coins scattered around the chamber.”
He allowed himself a small, wry smile.
“And it’s only because I made the right choice that day that I survived. The tomb collapsed shortly after I escaped. Had I lingered even a moment longer, I’d have been buried with it.
“After that, I left the Via Empire as fast as I could—and brought the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword back here, where it has remained ever since.”
Andrew gave a detailed explanation of how he had obtained the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword.
He did this to make sure Luca understood just how precious the weapon truly was.
Luca, however, wasn’t listening with much attention.
Most of his focus was locked on using his Perception ability to sense the power hidden within the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword.
The power inside the weapon was neither chaos energy nor primal power.
It was a force Luca had never encountered before.
“What do you think? Do you want to use this weapon?”
Andrew remained silent for a while before finally asking.
At first, Luca didn’t immediately register the question.
Only after Andrew repeated it several times did Luca finally hear him clearly.
“Of course I want to use this weapon! Even the name Dragon-Slayer Greatsword sounds so badass!”
He answered excitedly.
The Dragon-Slayer Greatsword was stronger than the Starseeker and contained a strange power that the Starseeker lacked.
That meant in actual combat, the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword could prove even more useful than both the Starseeker and the Obsidian combined.
“I’m glad you’re satisfied! Since I’ve already decided to give you the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword, you should spend some time getting familiar with it. I believe Lucas will be back soon.”
Andrew said with a smile.
In his eyes, since the sword had already been given away, there was no need to delay.
Luca once again expressed his gratitude to Andrew.
After that, he immediately began familiarizing himself with the Dragon-Slayer Greatsword inside the headquarters of the Adventurers’ Guild.
Half an hour later, Lucas returned to the guild’s headquarters.
His expression was extremely grim.
Just as Andrew had predicted, he hadn’t been able to recruit many soldiers in Riverside City.
The townsfolk there were strongly resistant to him.
And what made the situation even more awkward was that even among those who weren’t opposed to him, the majority simply weren’t qualified to become soldiers.
“One way or another, you must make sure your adventurers join Lord Crimson King’s army.”
Lucas said harshly.
He had already wasted far too much time, and Lucas decided he wasn’t going to argue with Andrew any longer.
If Andrew refused to cooperate, then he would simply forcefully take every adventurer he could find.
Andrew’s expression darkened, his face turning grim.
Although he had already thought of a solution, he needed to pretend as though he was cornered and deeply troubled.
“You’re still not going to make a decision, huh?” Lucas snapped, his patience finally wearing thin.
“Fine. Then I’ll handle this myself!”
With that, he shot up from his seat, his anger radiating off him in waves, fully prepared to march out and seize the adventurers by force.
“Wait!” Andrew called out urgently, his voice sharp enough to cut through the tension.
“Hold on! I… I think we can still find a solution to this!”
