Chapter 219: Demon Mastermind
Two more floors later, Godfrey found himself standing in an abandoned metropolis city. It was like everyone in the city suddenly vanished overnight, leaving a hollow city behind.
Godfrey looked at Jasper’s mother from the corner of his eyes. He was already lacking knights, there was no way he would assign one more.
She just had to find somewhere to stay while he cleared this floor.
“I think you —!” His eyes flashed as his hand moved, catching an arrow right before his face. Lament stretched his halberd to block Jasper’s mother, and the arrow shot at her bounced off.
Godfrey looked around, his eyes moving from left to right. When his irises went to the right, he caught something, a black smoke that seemed to have the vague shape of a humanoid on the sixth floor of an eight storey building.
“I’m afraid…” He looked around. “We’re surrounded.” His statement made Jasper’s mother tremble as she finally caught sight of their attacker.
Elves with dark gray skin and longbows. They positioned themselves strategically on towering buildings, a place far from the reach of their targets and within the reach of their arrows.
’I just remembered I don’t have to be worried about you.’ Godfrey thought with gleaming eyes and activated Echo. Mountain’s shield materialised and transformed into a dome with Jasper’s mother within.
Dirge opened her other hand, the one that wasn’t holding the wand, and small stones began to levitate. Black miasma billowed out of her as she swung her hand like she was slicing something. The moment she did that, an invisible force tore all the pillars in the fourth floor of an eight storey building, causing the building to collapse in on itself.
She flew off the ground, forming an orb made out of telekinetic force around her before releasing it. Towering buildings around them were destroyed, large slabs of concrete stones flying at great speed right through several other buildings.
Still, more arrows flew toward them, forcing Lament to lift his warhorse forelimb off the ground. It neighed loudly as a massive golden tree appeared behind him.
The branches spread out and plunged into the ground, successfully stopping all the arrows. As it opened, a knight with golden tendrils for wings flew out.
The other two dungeons after the corrupted orcs were not difficult to handle, but the bosses were a bit weaker. However, their dungeon core was still enough to lift Tempest from 12.3 to 13.5!
And that was just one core. The other went to Lament, pushing the Mounted Knight’s tier to 15.0!
With astonishing speed, Tempest covered the distance between him and the dark elves, their arrows bouncing off his armour, which could handle attacks 14.0 and below.
His wings became erratic, humming loudly with lightning as this winged knight moved. His Double-Bladed Greatsword cleaved through the elves’ bodies, electrocuting them until just their scorched bones remained.
And this was before their corpses touched the floor.
’This is the kind of dungeon I’ve been waiting for. All my knights are growing faster than they’ve ever done in a year. I’ve also finally entered the Origin Tier.’ Godfrey mused inwardly when his eyes suddenly widened as an arrow came for him.
The moment the arrowhead touched the dome he set up for Jasper’s mother, cracks spread out in a nanosecond and it exploded. Yet, the arrow spiralled toward him.
Godfrey used a telekinetic force to slow the arrow down before grabbing it, but the metallic sound of the arrowhead hit his golden mask.
’The boss.’ He muttered solemnly. About fifteen kilometres away, a dark elf with a white mask and black attire stood on a skyscraper, aiming her longbow at the sky.
She drew it and fired. The arrow tore through the sky, vanishing into the clouds. She took more arrows from her thigh, firing four arrows with each draw.
Godfrey saw arrows descending on him and his knights. He activated Echo, thus summoning Mountain’s shield. His eyes narrowed as each arrow shattered the earth when they struck the asphalt road.
Finally, one struck the shield. All the runes glowed and the dark elf boss lowered her head to the arrow wound at her abdomen.
Her eyes widened. She clutched the wound and began to retreat but saw a huge knight on his warhorse racing toward her with an army behind him.
The elf boss turned, leaping from one building to the other. She stopped when Godfrey descended from above with tendril wings, his eyes gleaming with intensity.
Right then, six massive shadow guardians manifested around the elf boss while she swiftly drew one foot back, nocked an arrow on her bow and aimed it at his face.
Her expression behind the mask changed when six golden guardians, as if made from sunlight, manifested around Godfrey.
She was a 20.3 Divine Tier boss while he was a 20.6 Origin Tier. But in Black-Out State, his tier rose to 21.6!
His own guardians were much stronger and that reality became clear when both sides clashed and the blows of the sun guardians sent the shadow guardians staggering.
Godfrey’s eyes moved to the left as the elf was already there. She kicked his pauldron, providing enough distance to shoot an arrow which Godfrey dodged and slapped his palm downward.
An invisible force sent the elf to her knees, cracks spreading out. She hung her head low. In that moment when it seemed she had given up, the elf burst into the shadows and reappeared right behind him, thrusting an arrow at his neck.
Godfrey activated lightning infusion, combining it with Lysander’s agility. He moved so fast, it seemed like he glided from her front to her right side, leaving an afterimage behind.
His gauntleted hand wrapped around her face like an iron clamp. He lifted her up and slammed her against the rooftop, forcing it to collapse to the lower floor.
Floor after floor began to collapse until the twentieth floor. Godfrey came out from the rubble, squinting as another light gate in the distance reflected in his eyes.
’I can’t complain right now.’ He grunted, rising to face the light door whose light reached the sky like a pillar of light.
He began to notice a pattern though. Every single monster here had been touched by a demon race. This was an invasive dungeon with a mastermind right behind it.
