Ethan glanced at the notifications but skipped them aside. His steps turned steady as he walked through the corridor toward the chamber where the births took place. Duke Phillips followed close behind with long urgent strides.
“Damn, step aside,” Duke Phillips muttered and pushed past Ethan, rushing through the chamber doors like an arrow. His eyes were wide and glowing in excitement. No longer did he think about war, guilds or political pressure.
The main reason he had stayed here instead of running back to his Duchy was now in front of him. He wanted to see his grandchildren.
Inside, there was silence, soft and warm. Lanterns burned with gentle yellow light. A faint smell of herbs and sweat lingered in the room. Midwives stood aside, exhausted but smiling. On two small cradles near the bed lay two newborn girls wrapped in white silk.
They were daughters.
One was born from Julia. The other was Diana’s child.
Soft black hair like ink, cheeks pale and delicate, eyes closed like tiny shells. Their fingers were small as flower buds.
“Uhh… my two granddaughters…” Duke Phillips breathed. His voice softened into the air. All his tension and panic melted in an instant. He reached out with trembling hands but stopped halfway. His palm hovered mid-air, shaking.
“What happened?” Ethan asked, noticing the sudden frown.
“I… I just don’t know how to hold children,” Duke Phillips admitted, looking ashamed. The powerful Duke who had commanded armies turned helpless before two tiny infants.
Ethan’s lips curled into a small gentle curve. He stepped closer and carefully picked up both girls, one in each arm. His movements were natural and steady, not forced. The babies blinked, their eyes half-open, and stared at their father.
The sight struck Duke Phillips like an arrow in the chest. His heart trembled so hard he felt lightheaded. He felt like he was falling slowly through soft clouds. Happiness washed over him stronger than any wine or victory he had tasted.
Soon others entered the chamber. Julia lay weak on the bed, sweat still on her forehead. Diana leaned against pillows, breathing slow and tired.
“Sophia, Rina,” Ethan called quietly. “Please take the children and help Father-in-law.”
The two women stepped forward and nodded. They received the babies from Ethan carefully and guided Duke Phillips on how to support their heads and hold them properly. The old Duke looked nervous but excited, whispering small sounds as if speaking to angels.
Ethan stayed a moment. He knelt beside Julia and Diana. Both looked exhausted yet glowing with new life.
Julia gripped his hand. Her voice was strained and hoarse. “I… as a knight I thought there was no pain that could faze me but this…” She shut her eyes tightly, breath trembling. “This feels like a nightmare.”
Ethan brushed her hair back gently and said, “If you do not want more children, we can take precautions. You do not need to put yourself through it again.”
Julia opened her eyes slowly. She wanted to say yes. She almost did. But then she looked at her daughter. At that tiny face. That soft warmth. Something bloomed in her chest. A love deeper than sword oath or battlefield victory.
“We will see,” she whispered.
Ethan smiled faintly. He kissed her forehead then stood and quietly left the chamber.
He walked toward the place built only for him.
His seclusion room.His training ground.
He spent a huge sum to build it. Pure white stone walls strengthened with runes. Inscribed barriers layered to withstand aura pressure. It was the best that Ruthiana could create at this time. For something stronger he needed a master mage from the Empire. That was impossible now with the political tension rising.
He sat cross-legged on the floor. The air was silent as still water.
“System.”
“Collect it.”
[DING]
[You have gained 100 years of Martial Insight.]
[You have gained a Master Breakthrough Potion.]
[DING]
[You have gained 50 years of Knight Insight and 50 years of Martial Insight.]
[You have gained C-rank Chaos Sword Art.]
Ethan’s lips slowly stretched into a wide smile. His chest rose and fell with excitement.
“One hundred fifty years of Martial Insight… this will give me a terrifying boost.”
He opened the panel.
[Chaos Sword Art]
The description unfolded like a curtain.
Chaos Sword Art was one of the strongest sword arts known to exist. It was said to be born from the law of destruction and motion. The strikes were wild yet absolute, like lightning tearing through the world without order or reason. Each swing could distort spiritual forces and break stable mana into fragments. A single slash could shake the hearts of enemies, and create an illusion that the world itself was splitting.
But this technique was only a part of the manual.
If he collected every part of the Chaos Sword manual, something far greater awaited. A power beyond normal swordsmanship. A secret that only those worthy could witness.
Ethan’s eyes glimmered.
“Good…This was much needed.”
For a moment there was silence.
Then a dark, deep laugh slowly rolled from his chest. It echoed through the hall.
“Hahaha…”
“Finally, the wait is over.”
He took a breath and gave the order.
“Pour the Martial Insight.”
SWOOSSSH!
A surge of vitality exploded inside him like a second heartbeat. Power flooded his veins, hot like molten fire. His bones trembled. His aura climbed upward like a roaring tide. The room shook with pressure and the runic barrier glowed bright to contain him.
“Damn it… this feels amazing.”
Ethan clenched his fists. Strength shook through him like thunder.
“Hahaha!” he roared. He lifted his head to the ceiling. His eyes burnt bright like sharp iron.
The world outside seemed to move at a slow pace.He could feel his senses expanding, and every drop of his heart beat erupting like a thunder boom.
“Hahaaa…Good…Now it’s time to make a move.”
