Chapter 266: 266:The Guild Master Vs The Blackwater Baron 2
The two beasts stood facing each other, their auras clashing even before their weapons moved. Dust trembled around them as if the ground feared what was coming.
Ethan tilted his head and spoke first. His tone was calm yet filled with the tempest of fury.”Before we begin, I want to ask again. Aren’t you ashamed?”
Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the man before him coldly.
Simon raised his brows. “Ashamed?”
He looked around at the terrified people watching from a distance. His voice carried a coldness that made the crowd flinch.
“Why should I be ashamed?” he muttered. “Do you think the lives of these ants matter to me? Why do I need to care about them? I just need to do what I need and live well.”
“And this is the truth. If one lives happily, others are bound to live unhappily.”
Ethan opened his mouth to reply, but Simon lifted his hand and continued.
“Over the years, the number of righteous heroes who died under my sword is uncountable. And I always asked them the same question.”
A spear appeared in his hand.
He slowly pointed his spear tip at Ethan.
“If one day someone kills your parents, what will you do?”
“Kill,” Ethan answered without blinking. He wondered where this was going but he needed the world to hear this.
For every war there must be a cause, and Simon’s words already handed him one.
Simon smirked. “You will kill the one who offended you, right?”
“Hmm.” Ethan nodded.
Simon’s lips curled into an evil grin. “Then tell me. What will you do when you learn that the person you kill also has small children?”
Ethan’s eyes widened slightly. The crowd held their breath. Simon stepped forward, pressure pouring out of him like a storm.
“You will kill them, and then their children will grow and kill you one day. Then if you have children, they will grow with the same vengeance and kill them. Now tell me. What will you do? If you claim to be righteous, how can you make a child suffer who has done nothing wrong? Now tell me!”
He leaned closer, staring at Ethan’s face, waiting for hesitation, waiting for fear. He had asked many righteous heroes this question.
Most of them froze and some stuttered. While some broke apart.
But Ethan did not.
“Why do I need to care about that?” Ethan asked.
Simon blinked. “Huh?”
“He killed my parents, so I will kill him. And if his child is strong enough to kill me then it is my fate.”
Ethan stepped closer. His aura thickened.
“Listen, bastard. Don’t dump me into that group of righteous fools. I might be insane, but I am not foolish enough to ponder over this.”
His voice dropped to a cold whisper.
“Everyone who dares to be my enemy needs to be uprooted and cut down without any hesitation.”
“Justice is a double edged sword. As long as my heart says I am right and I can sleep peacefully at night I know I am right.”
Simon stared into Ethan’s eyes. Silence hung in the air for a heartbeat. Then Simon burst into loud laughter.
“Hahahaha!”
He drew his spear, spinning it once in his hand.”Good. You are a worthy foe.”
The next moment,his hands blurred.
BANGGGG!
A metallic clash rang out in the next instant. The impact shook the entire area. People dropped to the ground as shockwaves exploded outward.
“We need to take it somewhere else,” Ethan said, bracing himself.
If Simon refuses then he gonna drag that guy out
“Hmm,” Simon replied with a sharp nod.
Ethan then looked down. His gaze landed on Randall.
“Make sure this bastard doesn’t mess things up unless I come back.”Ethan spoke while glaring at Steven who was on the verge of licking.
“You are quite confident?”Simon asked.
“Of course I am.”
The two figures vanished in the next heartbeat.
Under the stunned eyes of the people, two streaks of light tore through the air and shot far into the distance.
A loud booming noise thundered outside the town a moment later signalling the beginning of the new battle.
…..
“You should feel honored.” Simon gave the man in front of him a smile that was not a smile. His lips lifted slightly but his eyes stayed cold and cruel. There was no warmth in that expression, only a dark pressure that made the air feel heavy.
He narrowed his eyes dangerously and said in a low voice, “You will be the first Baron to fall before my spear because I haven’t killed any low level noble before.”
“Only time will tell.”
Simon frowned slightly and said nothing. For a moment something felt wrong, and it bothered him. It was hard for him to believe it, yet the unease crawling up his spine was real. It came from the young man’s right hand.
No, that was wrong. The unease came from the hilt of the giant sword the young man was gripping tightly.
Simon was a warrior who had lived more than twice the opponent’s age and he had fought countless battles. He was proud but he was not blinded by pride. He would never ignore danger and he would never underestimate anyone, especially someone who had already killed those same monsters he created. Even his cruel nature never allowed arrogance to cloud his judgment.
Just as he planned to lunge forward, intending to attack first before the young man could even lift that massive sword, a huge hand of earth rose from the ground without warning.
Simon was taken aback for a moment. He didn’t expect a mage attack still he moved instantly.
His expression changed to a cold alertness as he shifted into a defensive stance and prepared to counterattack.
But the hand did not strike him. Instead, it grabbed the hilt of the giant sword and pushed it down. With a strong movement the earth hand drove the tip deep into the rocky floor, cracking it wide open.
Ethan stepped forward. He reached out with his right hand, wrapped his fingers around the handle and with a sharp, powerful pull he tore the sword free from the stone.
“I… It’s been a while since I last had such an exciting battle!” Ethan laughed. Mana rushed out of his body wildly, almost like it was boiling under his skin.
At the same time,he assessed Simon’s reaction. The earlier attack was just a test.
A test to see if the man underestimated him.
Sadly,the guy was quite alert.
“Don’t worry, the fight will be over soon.” Simon sneered.
