Chapter 294: 294:Did I Just Plant A Red Flag?
The next day, as Ethan slowly woke up, he felt something warm and heavy pressed against him. His groggy eyes opened, and he realized he was nestled between two pairs of enormous soft mounds. He blinked once, then twice, as his sleepy mind finally caught up.
He turned his head slightly.
Sophia and Diana were coiled around him like an octopus, one arm thrown across his chest and the other leg tangled with his. Their breathing was slow and steady, faces relaxed in deep sleep.
Ethan stared at them for a moment, then his mind fully woke up.
Someone was missing.
“Claira!” Ethan muttered, panic flashing across his face.
He gently nudged the two women.”Hey, you two, get up!”
Sophia only buried her face deeper into the pillow and mumbled,”I am so tired. Let me sleep.”
Diana turned slightly and groaned,”Ahh… I want to sleep.”
Ethan chuckled helplessly.
Ethan suddenly saw a series of notifications flash before his eyes.
[The host has copulated with a new wife.]
[Host has gained.. Error.]
’Huh!’
“Error..” Ethan muttered, frowning slightly.
He paused for a moment, then called out internally.
’System, what happened here?’
The response came quickly.
[Host, Miss Claira is born with B rank Warrior potential, but she is cursed and her potential is locked due to the curse.]
Ethan’s eyes widened, and his expression darkened instantly.
“Damn it…” he muttered under his breath.
“System, then does it mean she can’t cultivate?” Ethan asked, his voice tense and worried.
[She can’t cultivate unless an antidote is given.]
“Which antidote?” Ethan asked immediately, his brows knitting together.
[Host, did you forget about the Life Enhancing Plant? The fruit can be used to make an elixir to break curses.]
“I remember,” Ethan replied, rubbing his chin, “but we need other ingredients and an alchemist.”
[That is to completely remove the curse. However, feeding a Life Enhancing Plant directly will loosen the shackle.]
Ethan froze for a moment.
“For real?” he asked, his voice rising slightly.
[Yes!]
Ethan finally let out a deep breath he did not realize he was holding. The tension in his chest eased, and relief washed over his face.
“How much of her potential will be unlocked?” he asked next, still cautious.
[Please experiment yourself, Host.]
Ethan clicked his tongue lightly, a habit of his when thinking.
“Tch… always like this.”
He pushed himself up from where he was sitting.Carefully, he slipped out from between them without waking them up. He wrapped a towel around his waist and looked around the room, his eyes scanning every corner searching for Claira.
His senses sharpened instantly.
Then he felt it.
A faint presence from the bathroom.
Ethan moved quietly and pushed the door open. Steam lingered in the air. Near the bathtub, he found Claira sitting in the shallow pool, hugging her knees tightly to her chest. Her head was lowered, and her expression was sad and embarrassed.
Question marks appeared over Ethan’s head.
He walked closer and crouched down.”Claira, what happened!”
The moment she heard his voice, her body trembled. She curled up even more, hugging herself tightly. Her face turned bright red, and Ethan could clearly see steam rising from her head for real.
“Claira… are you hurt?” he asked gently.
“Do you want me to treat it?”
“Its not that…” Claira muttered softly, covering her face with both hands.
“Then what?”
“I… I am…” Her lips trembled as memories of the previous night flashed vividly in her mind.
’Ahhhh… Claira, what did you do?’I shouldn’t have gotten drunk…’
Her whole body heated up from embarrassment.
“I am just ashamed…” she whispered.
“You might think of me as a bad woman… wuw…” Claira’s voice cracked as tears gathered in her eyes.
Ethan chuckled softly.
He reached out and gently pulled her into his arms. One hand rested on her back while the other slowly caressed her hair. His touch was calm and steady.
“It’s okay…”
His voice was deep and reassuring.
“We should let the wildness hidden in our heart out sometimes. It’s not bad to be true to our desires.”
Claira stiffened slightly, then slowly relaxed.
“But…”
“No but…” Ethan interrupted softly.
“You will get used to it. Mating is not just about producing children or pleasure.”
Claira lifted her head slightly, listening.
“It is about showing your hidden true side to your partner.”
His voice was calm but firm.
“When you shed your clothes, you also shed your pretense. You stop hiding your vulnerability.”
Claira’s eyes widened slightly.
“You do not just bare your body. You bare your true self.”
His gaze softened as he looked at her.
“It is a true union of two partners, exploring the deepest secrets hidden in the heart.”
Claira’s eyes blurred for a moment. Her mind almost short-circuited hearing something so profound. Her chest felt warm, and her heart beat softly. Slowly, she began to understand what he meant.
She fiddled with her fingers nervously.
“Then… is it okay to act as one true self?” she asked quietly.
“Of course it is,” Ethan replied without hesitation.
“Just live your life to the fullest, because where you are, you are queen and you will be protected.”
His eyes hardened slightly, filled with unshakable resolve.
“As long as I am alive, I will not allow a single harm to touch you.”
This was not just a grand promise.
It was a vow.
A vow born from gratitude and truth.
Everything Ethan was, and everything he had become, was because of his wives. With them, he was like a god among men walking the mortal plane. Without them, he was nothing.
Such gratitude had to be repaid.
Even if it cost him his life.
Claira looked at him with watery eyes, her lips trembling into a shy smile. At that moment, she looked innocent, lovely, and precious beyond words. She leaned into his chest, feeling safe.
…….
Claira slowly started to adjust to her new life.
A new life where no one treated her with contempt.A new life where she wasn’t looked at as filth or a burden.
She laughed more and started to speak more
Soon, she found herself surrounded by children.
Sally, Wales, and Arnold pulled her hands excitedly, asking her to play. They laughed loudly, running around her, sometimes tripping and falling.
Claira had always wanted a partner. She had always dreamed of warmth and family.
Now, playing with the children, her heart felt full.
She laughed freely as she chased them, her dress fluttering as she moved. The children clung to her happily, calling her name again and again.
Far away, Ethan stood quietly, watching the scene.
The sunlight fell softly over them.
It felt peaceful.
The past few months had been filled with blood, tension, and danger. Everything had been chaotic and exhausting.
Now, for a brief moment, things felt calm.
It almost felt like happiness.
Just as that thought settled in his mind, a loud voice broke the calm.
“Father! There is an urgent message from the Fenwick estate!”
Ethan’s expression fell instantly.
’Fuckkk…’
’Did I just plant a fucking red flag?’
The peace shattered in an instant, leaving behind a familiar sense of dread.
