Chapter 307: 307:Deja Vu!
Two cold, dagger-like eyes glared at Miranda.
The pressure was so sharp that she flinched, as if she were sitting on needles.
“Father!”
Ethan just stared at her.
For a moment, he did not even know what to say.
The feeling inside his chest was hard to describe. It was anger, fear, relief, and frustration mixed together. How was a person supposed to react when their own children jumped straight into a battlefield like idiots?
Yes, their plan had worked.
Yes, nothing terrible had happened.
But what if it had not?
What if something had gone wrong?
The Wyvern King had been benevolent enough not to attack them. But if it had been an evil bastard instead, this situation could have gone far beyond what anyone could handle.
“I… I’m sorry,” Miranda said softly, lowering her head.
“You should cut them some slack,” the long black-haired man said calmly.
Ethan snapped his head toward him and snorted. “That’s my choice.”
“They are my kids, not yours.”Ethan glared.
He then turned his gaze toward Wales, who was sitting beside the Wyvern King.
The moment their eyes met, Wales quickly looked away and started fiddling with his fingers nervously. The small gesture made Ethan feel as if he were some kind of villain.
Seeing this, Ethan shifted his gaze to Duke Phillips and Baron Fenwick.
They were also stunned by the sudden turn of events. Neither of them had expected things to escalate like this.
Ethan sighed deeply before speaking again.
“Miranda, Wales,” he said slowly, “there is a difference between being courageous and rushing ahead like idiots.”
Both of them stiffened.
“The odds were in our favor,” Ethan continued, “but anything could have gone bad. Anything.”
His voice lowered, heavy with suppressed fear.
“You could have done this in a better way. You could have first asked your grandfather, Baron Fenwick, or Duke Phillips. They were not fighting at that time. Instead, you rushed straight here.”
Neither Miranda nor Wales dared to reply.
The silence was broken by a deep voice.
“What should I call you?” Ethan asked, turning toward the Wyvern King.
“Rathlos,” the Wyvern King replied, a faint smile forming.
“So, Rathlos,” Ethan said, steadying himself, “how did you all end up nesting here?”
“This used to be our land,” Rathlos answered.”A great winter disaster struck, so we went underground.”
“Winter disaster?” Ethan, Duke Phillips, and Baron Fenwick muttered at the same time.
Miranda also peeked over curiously.
“You don’t know?” Rathlos asked, frowning.
“No,” Ethan replied honestly.
“It seems we have been in hibernation longer than we expected,” Rathlos said slowly. “About the winter disaster… I do not know all the specifics. But from what I know, there used to be a Goddess of Spring.”
Everyone froze.
“A war was waged against her,” Rathlos continued. “She lost, and that caused winter to spread its dread.”
“A war against a god?”
“And a god of seasons?” Duke Phillips muttered.
Ethan’s mind went blank for a moment.
This was the first time he had heard that there were gods and goddesses of seasons.
“We did not even know such gods existed,” Ethan said.
“It is fine,” Rathlos replied calmly. “There are many gods. If you look through history, you will find hundreds of them. Many were minor gods.”
“Then what happened to the Goddess of Spring?” Ethan asked. “Was she killed?”
“We do not know the conclusion,” Rathlos answered. “But seeing the land prosper again, she might have preserved it. Or someone else might have taken over and blessed it.”
Hearing this, Ethan, Duke Phillips, and Baron Fenwick looked at each other at the same time.
“Goddess of Light,” they said together.
“Light?” Rathlos repeated, raising a brow.
“What happened?”Ethan asked.
“Is this a problem?”
“No,” Rathlos said slowly. “It is just that she is the ruler of the Holy Nation. We did not expect her influence to spread this far.”
“Sorry to say this,” Duke Phillips interrupted, “but there is nothing called a Holy Nation at present.”
Rathlos looked down, a hint of nostalgia flashing in his eyes.
“Time…” he murmured. “It really changes everything.”
He then lifted his gaze and looked directly at Ethan, as if asking what his intentions were.
Ethan straightened his back and clasped his hands behind him.
Wales looked at Ethan with a pleading gaze.
“You wyverns can live on our land,” Ethan said firmly. “You can live as ordinary citizens and do what you want, as long as you do not harm us.”
Rathlos listened quietly.
“However,” Ethan continued, “just like humans need to work to feed themselves, wyverns will also need to work to earn their place.”
Rathlos tapped a claw against the ground, thinking deeply.
“What kind of work?” he asked.
“You can join us and form flying knights,” Ethan replied. “Or you can help with transportation, carrying goods, or even touring people. There are many ways you can help us.”
“You can eat anything you want except humans.”
Rathlos remained silent for a moment. All of this sounded complicated and troublesome.
Just as he was about to speak, his expression suddenly changed.
“You!” he shouted, standing up abruptly and glaring at Ethan.
“LIAREEE!”
Ethan felt the sudden shift and reacted instantly.
“It’s not from our side!” Ethan yelled as he sprang up to his feet with a perplexed expression.
“I swear it.”
Before anyone could understand what was happening—
Boom!
The ground exploded violently.
Rathlos shot upward, tearing through the sky in a blur of motion ignoring everyone.
Everyone turned toward Ethan, but he had already vanished from where he stood.
Miranda’s eyes widened in fear.
“W-What happened?” she screamed.
“I don’t know..”Randall and Joel spoke. Then they looked at others.
A deep silence lingered for a moment, broken by Duke Phillips.
“I am not sure but I felt a strange deja vu that disappeared for a moment.”
The calm they had built shattered in an instant, and the sense of danger returned, heavier than before.
