Chapter 313: 313:Detected Birth Of Child
According to the estimates, construction would be completed within three months. Once finished, the towns could not remain empty. Unmanned towns had no value. They produced nothing and protected nothing.
Because of this, Ethan had been extremely busy recruiting new residents.
However, these two towns were not small settlements. To operate properly, each required nearly two hundred thousand people. Gathering such a huge population was never an easy task.
Fortunately, the slave incident had brought him many people who were still struggling just to survive. These people had lost their homes, their families, and their dignity. With the construction of the new towns, they could finally breathe freely again. In this way, Ethan fulfilled the promise he had once made.
As for recruiting people from other noble territories, that was only possible on a smaller scale.
Ethan gathered merchants and sent mercenaries to spread word of refuge. At this point in Ruthiana, refugees were easy to find. Natural disasters were occurring everywhere for reasons no one could fully explain.
For some reason, dozens of dungeon gates had opened across the land, causing large-scale destruction once again. Thankfully, the Star Knights managed to suppress most of these incidents. The only exception had been the Wyvern nest incident.
However, something deeply unsettled Ethan.
He noticed a pattern.
“How are the Star Knights arriving so accurately?” he wondered.
“They always appear almost immediately.”
“Does the King have some power to predict disasters?”
“Or is he the one creating all of this?”
“But how would that even be possible?”
“An artifact, perhaps?”
Many questions lingered in his mind, but Ethan chose not to dig deeper for now. Something felt wrong, but worrying alone would change nothing. Strengthening his defenses and stabilizing his territory was far more important.
……
Five months later.
The two towns were finally completed.
The total cost reached nearly one million gold coins. The result was astonishing. The design carried the elegance of Renaissance-style architecture, combined with practical innovation. Steam systems were installed to heat homes. Water systems were carefully planned. Roads were wide and reinforced.
Ethan only needed to explain the concept. His blacksmith team, led by Otlo, handled the rest with frightening efficiency.
If only he knew how to create a telegraph or wired communication system, many problems related to distance would have been solved. Unfortunately, that knowledge remained out of reach.
In the end, there was very little he could do in the technical field.Still, this was enough.
Soon, his guards started the management work.
The settlers were assigned to the two newly completed towns based on their skills, age, and experience. For them, this was not just relocation. It was the beginning of a new life.
Of course, the houses and food provided were not free.
Instead, the settlers received them as loans. They needed to work and repay this debt over time. Only then would the houses truly become their own.
This system motivated people.
With enough settlers arriving, the two new towns quickly came alive. Markets formed. Workshops opened.
Ethan even made sure to build gardens and parks for children to play.Schools were also built and education was made compulsory till the age of 8.
The towns began moving forward on their own.
Ethan had different expectations for each town.
If the results proved successful, he would expand again. However, the land under the Blanks territory was limited. At most, he could build two more towns. Expanding beyond that would require clearing forests or farmland, which was unacceptable.
If new development paths appeared, Ethan would adjust accordingly.
……..
Another three months passed amid constant activity.
Then, one early morning, everything stopped.
Ethan stood outside the delivery room with the others. His fists were clenched tightly.
From inside, Claira’s painful cries echoed through the corridor.
Ten minutes later, the sound of a baby’s loud cry filled the air.
At the same time, the system notification appeared.
[Detected the birth of the child of the host.]
[The child has been born with B-rank warrior potential.]
[Reward: Gift ×1]
Ethan froze.
He was completely shocked.
Claira had only just started cultivation. When they had been together, there was no system notification at all. Yet now, their child was born with B-rank potential.
“How?” Ethan wondered.
The question shook him deeply, but he pushed it aside and rushed inside.
Claira was moving restlessly on the bed.
“What happened?” Ethan asked coldly.
The midwives panicked and bowed quickly.
“My Lord, she has just given birth and is weak. We asked her to rest, but she insists on holding the child.”
Ethan looked at Claira. Tears streamed down her face. She looked quite emotional.
“Please,” she cried softly, “let me see my child.”
Her fear startled everyone. It was as if she believed someone would take the baby away.
Sophia stepped forward and gently took the child.
Claira leaned forward and grabbed it.
White hair, beautiful clear skin and it was coupled with beautiful amethyst eyes.
A son.
Sophia smiled faintly and said, “Kekekke…We have another beauty for the world’s women to feast on.”
She showed the child to Claira.
The moment Claira saw her baby’s face, untouched by any blemish, she finally calmed down. She held the child close and broke down in tears.
“Thank God for having mercy on me and my child,” she sobbed.
“Not only did I find a husband who treats me warmly, I was blessed with such a beautiful child.”
“And thankfully there aren’t any marks…Wuwuwuwuw…”
Seeing her cry like that tore Ethan’s heart apart.
For a moment, he wanted to storm into the palace and slap the King himself and he barely restrained that urge.
And he was not alone.
If not for Ethan’s presence, Sophia might have already begun planning rebellion.
Claira was too gentle. Too kind. Yet the world had been so cruel to her. They never imagined she would fear that her child might inherit the same fate.
At that moment, a voice came from the doorway.
“If it is a witch’s curse, it can only be broken by another witch,” Rathlos said calmly. “Or by a potion made with specific ingredients.”
Ethan nodded.
He already possessed the main ingredient. The life expectancy plant.
But he needed an S-rank alchemist and several rare herbs unavailable here.
As for finding a witch, he had no idea where to begin.
“Do you know where to find one?” Ethan asked.
Rathlos rubbed his chin.
“I knew a few witches,” he said slowly, “but I do not know where they are now. I also know the path to the Witch Lands, but the world has changed. They may have moved long ago.”
Hearing this, Ethan sighed and shook his head.
The road ahead was still long.
