Chapter 332:The Cursed King
Duke Monopolis drew his sword, and his body flashed forward, leaving behind only a blur.
Sonic booms tore through the air as he crossed the distance in an instant. The sky itself seemed to crack as his speed broke the sound barrier. His sword pointed straight ahead, locked onto the lone figure standing in the air.
As he drew closer, a strange sound reached his ears.
It was not loud but something akin to low murmur erupting across the sky.
An incomprehensible murmur that felt as if it crawled directly into his mind.
[Dragon Fear.]
Swoooosh!
The space around him trembled as an invisible force slammed into his body. His momentum faltered, and for a brief moment, his heart skipped a beat. A deep instinctual fear surged up from within him, ancient and primal.
He blinked, trying to steady himself.
In that single blink, a sense of déjà vu washed over him.
His head tilted slightly.
CRUNGGG!
Something tore through the air above him, drawing a glowing line across the sky. The streak shot upward and lit the heavens for a brief second.
Duke Monopolis twisted his body and shot backward, his instincts screaming.
When he steadied himself and looked ahead, he saw Rathlos standing there calmly. His arm had changed. Dark scales covered it completely, and those scales had reshaped into a long, sharp blade. The edge glinted with cold light.
Duke Monopolis’ expression hardened.
“What happened?” Rathlos asked with a faint smile.
Before the words fully settled, Rathlos’ figure blurred.
Duke Monopolis slashed instinctively.
BOOOOOOM!
The two blades collided with a terrifying explosion. Violent shockwaves burst outward, tearing through the air. Wind blades erupted in all directions, slicing through clouds and sending pressure waves rolling across the sky.
“What?” Duke Monopolis muttered in shock.
“Shocked, right?” Rathlos murmured as he pushed forward, forcing Duke Monopolis back.
“Don’t be arrogant, beast,” Duke Monopolis growled.
“It’s you who acted arrogantly, nameless bastard,” Rathlos roared.
His blade-arm darkened as a fierce aura of darkness coated it. The energy surged forward and swallowed the space between them.
[Nightmare Slash.]
A massive cross-shaped mark erupted in the air, exploding outward as Rathlos’ attack tore through the sky.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
The two figures blurred again and collided repeatedly. Each clash sent out violent air blasts that roared like thunder. The pressure was so heavy that the clouds were torn apart, leaving swirling voids in the sky.
Blade arcs flashed everywhere.
Some of those arcs fell downward and slammed into buildings far below, tearing them apart like paper. Towers collapsed, walls shattered, and fires erupted across the capital. Neither of the two fighters spared a glance.
They continued.
Rathlos pressed harder.
His movements became sharper, cleaner, and more ruthless. Each strike carried crushing force mixed with dark power. Duke Monopolis blocked, parried, and countered, but with every exchange, he was pushed back inch by inch.
BOOOOM!
Another collision shook the heavens. The shockwave rippled outward, creating visible distortions in the air. Even from the ground, people could see the sky bending under the pressure.
Rathlos roared and slashed downward. Duke Monopolis barely raised his sword in time.
CRASH!
The impact sent Duke Monopolis flying backward. He skidded through the air, leaving behind a trail of shattered air bubbles as the pressure burst around him.
Rathlos did not give him time to recover.
He appeared above him in a flash and brought his blade-arm down again. Duke Monopolis twisted desperately, blocking at the last second.
The explosion that followed lit up the sky like a second sun.
……
Below, the nobles had already begun retreating in panic. They kept as much distance as possible, fear written clearly on their faces. This was not a battle they could even hope to understand, let alone interfere in.
King Mark watched them flee with cold eyes.
He wanted to kill them all, but he knew one thing.
To do that, he needed to overcome the wall standing before him.
Ethan.
Ethan and King Mark stared at each other, their gazes sharp and deadly. The earlier exchanges had been nothing more than a warm-up. Both of them could feel it. Their blood was heated, and their power was rising.
Ethan locked his eyes onto Mark.
“Just how many lives did you harvest to reach this point?” Ethan asked calmly.
King Mark’s lips twisted into a strange, sinister smile.
“You have grown wings to ask me such a question,” Mark replied.
“So what?” Ethan said coldly. “Do you think you can act as you please and commit all kinds of evil?”
SWOOSH!
A scythe appeared in King Mark’s hand, formed from dark, twisted energy. The blade curved wickedly, radiating death.
Mark slowly turned his head, and his gaze stopped on Claira.
“Evil, huh?” he said softly.
“You say this because you were gifted,” Mark continued, his voice rising. “Blessed with destiny. You rose from nothing to this place.”
He pointed at himself, his eyes burning.
“But what about us?” he shouted.
“Do you know how much I had to grovel?” Mark roared. “How much I cried and begged?”
His killing intent surged.
“And it’s all because of that girl’s mother,” he snarled.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed sharply. He glanced at Claira, who trembled slightly, fear flickering across her face.
“What did she do?” Ethan asked, his voice dangerously calm.
“That witch,” Mark roared, slamming his foot into the ground.
The earth trembled violently. Cracks spread out in every direction from the impact.
“She cursed me!” Mark screamed. “I was reaching the peak, but that bitch cursed me!”
His aura exploded outward, heavy and suffocating.
“Her curse weakened me and sealed my fate! ” he continued. “Turned me from a great warrior into a frail, useless king!”
“That bitch…If not for that bitch…I would have reigned supreme.Ruthiana would have been standing at the peak of its glory…But because of her selfishness,Ruthiana lost the chance to rise..”
“And all of this is the fault of her mother so no matter what today I am gonna erase that mistake of the past…AHHHHHHHHH!”
BOOOOM!
RUMBLE!
The chilling killing intent froze the air. Everyone nearby felt their blood turn cold as Mark’s rage filled the space.
